Definately got the Crosby, Stills, Nash + Young element mixed with other sounds of the late 60's + early 70's...Seals + Croft, America, Joni Mitchell etc. Sounds Beautiful !
The Coral are the most underrated band in the UK. Hopefully the Butterfly House album will be a big success for them. Definitely song of the year so far.
Heard this song on the radio not knowing who it was. Finally found the song that is suprisingly from the Coral. I really thought it was from a 60s band.
He collapsed at the end because the cake was a lie. Watch the video, it's not just a meme this time. Also this song is awesome, this album is awesome, this band is awesome. Nuff said.............awesome!
@echtvanmij yeah! the Byrds way before... even a tiny touch of America at their very begining (1971-73) ... crosby still nash maybe ...other names ? ...
Yeh. One of the best bands out of the UK in the last 10 years. I can think of quite a few others who don't deserve those tags. I won't mention any names but I'm sure you know who they are....
They just make genius song after genius song. And looking at the video they still like the odd magic mushroom.Cant wait for the Sheps Bush gig, gonna be Epic.
@morbels yeah i know... we have already talk about the main influ... but Steppenwolf is a damn good choice for the guitar solo! a few years ago i was really into their wild music ..."rock me" is one of my fave
Read the comments: this song makes people think of dozens of bands. The Byrds, CSNY, America, Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, Moody Blues, etcetera. Seems The Coral have managed to pour them all in THE essential retro tune!
@BohemianConspiracy Blue Oyster cult was not my first choice, I merely quoted some of the bands that were in the comments. The guitar solo sound in '1000 years' sure reminds me of Steppenwolf.
theres a free download of Butterfly House on their website....looking forward to the new album...this has a late 60s west coast feel to it....they must have been listening to Jefferson airplane if that solo is anything to go by Jim
a sort of early fucked up America... or a 1969 single of the Byrds who never existed - Imagine the Byrds with Hillmand and Crosby still in the band in 1969 ... Excellent single... Coral made a great return !
This is just fucking gorgeous...Video ain't great but the song is incredibly beautiful...Sounds like the La's moved to Laurel Canyon...Intro is a stunner...Vocal harmony almost killed me and then the drums kicked in...Astonishing tune...It takes me to another place
I'm not the first to make this comparison but if you like this song you should check out 'Orleans' by David Crosby. The similarities don't diminish the quality of this song though, in my opinion.
@Lovethemseventies They are really underrated. I remember 4 years ago I found their "Invisible Invasion" album in the dollar bin at Virgin Mega Store. :[ Freaken Justin Beiber.lol what's the world coming to.
Folk rock still lives. Shame on people comparing this to Empire of Sun... Can't even compare.
Nicely done.....John Leckie production.........and all
Excellent song as ever. Once again hats off to Paul Duffy at the wheel, with those inmense bass lines.
One of the songs of 2011 :o)

"sailing on a thousand tears"
a thousand tears is, like, not even half a shot glass.
that's make the metaphor even more crazier

Theres some heavy Moody Blues in there, if you mixed some Blitzen Trapper and The Beatles, you have this.

@BohemianConspiracy Blue Oyster cult was not my first choice, I merely quoted some of the bands that were in the comments.
