i changed to qb online about a month ago and now finally moving deposits from undeposited funds to checking. i did a bunch and now find out that qb downloaded all that info from bank. how can i clear out UF account without making double entries?
I would actually probably void or delete the downloaded bank deposits. I say this because the UF amounts would have come from payments on invoices, so if you delete those the invoices will still show as outstanding
How do you enter a negative deposit? For example a customer buys $50 worth of goods. Another customer returns $100 worth of goods. The days these orders process I have a withdraw from my checking account, via credit card processor for $50. Quickbooks will not let me Save & Close with a negative amount.

trying to change undeposited fund preferences in QB online 2020. Where did edit / preferences go?
It's not in QBO - go to the Gear icon and choose Account and Settings and it is in there

I think you should make a credit memo for that returns of $100 and apply to that particular invoice.
