    I've ridden this train all my life. Goes through my neighborhood and brings back very fond memories of growing up. A lot of my close family and friends are gone and watching this reminds me of some of the good times and those fond memories. Thank you.

    Adding to my other comment... This is a work of art on many levels. The videographer, silent start to finish, let the crew, passengers, train, sounds and diverse scenery & neighborhoods do the story telling. The camera was completely steady, too. The should be a NYC preserved treasure. 😊
    PS: How did you mount the camera?

      I agree. I loved hearing the real sounds of the clink, clack, and rhythymatic motion the train was making. I loved hearing the people in the background, it was perfect. I totally enjoyed this run. I myslef live along the "D" line in brooklyn

      I work from home. Nothing better than starting the day with this type of video and sounds on the background on a big TV.
      They deserve a special UA-cam reward or something. Excellent videos.

    Thanks for the video. Brings back memories. Used to live in the Big Apple until 2 years after 9/11. Missed the hustle/bustle of the city & subway with its sounds and distinctive "smell." Left for warmer weather.

    Thank you so much for doing a video on the ( J ). The ( J ) train is actually my childhood line along with the ( A ). The ( J ) brings back so many memories of when I used to ride it when I was young, and of the years I lived in NYC. :) I'm not sure which model I like on the ( J ) more though. The R42's which are the models I grew up riding on, or the R160s. Probably both. lol And I love the detailed description!

      I grew up in London England so I am used to trains with curved tops of the doors and paint on the body, seeing trains without any paint on them seems alien, especially as even when London Underground did use unpainted trains, they were matte aluminium and any way I wasn't even born then, I grew up with the Jubilee line post the 1999 extension to Stratford, East London.

    I enjoy watching these videos. They bring back memories of me when I was younger, riding the Metro back when I lived in DC. I always wanted to see out the front especially in the tunnels. Its very intriguing to imagine just how much construction had to go into developing the train systems. All the miles of tunneling, bridges and track that had to be meticulously laid, as well as all the lights and wires that had to be ran and the construction of each station. Its also bizarre when the tunnels become directly straight and you can see the lights and upcoming stations in the distance, but you cant quite tell how far away they are.

    You know I've mentioned my of a time on your video's, especially the J Train, Crescent Street Station, and Cypress Hills, on what I remember from being a kid in this area of the 1950's. Blessed Sacrament, my first school; Cypress Hills, and the Cypress Hills Pool, long gone now; Broadway Junction, get off,. take the escalator down to the Independent Line trains, back then A, E & F, were Express if I recall right; then Myrtle Avenue, to catch the Carnasie Train Line , off towards Ebbetts Field and the Brooklyn Dodgers and Coney Island, if I'm not mistaken, that line is gone too, shame. This is superbly done DJ Hammers! Without a doubt I will place this in favorites, as my all time Favorites ride on the J Train, Thank you for all you do to preserve the Video History of the NYC Transit System!. :o)

      Larry and DJ, great video and great comments. I grew up in Cypress Hills between the Crescent St and Cypress Hills St stops during the 50's and 60's. Those trains really squealed going around those curves. Rode the J to what was then Eastern Pkwy took the stairs up to Broadway Junction and got on the Canarsie line to Bedford Ave. St Francis Prep H.S. After that went down the really, really long escalator to the A train at what was then the East New York station. Took the A to 59th St switched to the D up to the Grand Concourse in the Bronx and Fordham Univ. Man this video and your video of the A really brought back the memories. Keep 'em coming. Gets you a LIKE and a Subscribe. Also used to take the J all the way to 168th St (it was ALL elevated back then) and connect to the LIRR out to eastern Long Island. Sorry for the ramble. Couldn't help myself.

    Man this took me back. I use to live off Van Siclen and would visit my family in Delancy all the time. I remember going towards Manhattan, right before the bridge and the Dominos factory there a huge mural dedicated to the train workers and I always thought that that was cool as hell. Sad to see they tore it down and put up condos there. Oh well.

    About the bridge, the platform above the rails first, which is after split both sides of the tracks, are only pedestrian foot bridges, or also for bicycles, or ment for an emergency access or egress from trains ?

    Excellent work Dj! I have one question, when will the R32's and the R42's retire? I've heard a lot of rumors that they are retiring in 2022 because of the R179 order delay.

      +ProStealthSniper Productions The R32s will continue to run after the R179s arrive for increased revenue service requirements for Second Avenue Subway and the rebuilding of the L train tunnel.

    This is nice, mta copied CTA (Chicago) creating these videos. Cool can see lots of cities virtually this way via video.less too see for underground aspects. Used to take J or E years ago to Queens

      These videos are not made by the MTA. They are made by the individual who runs this UA-cam channel.

    12:25 and that unfinished C in the middle of the graffiti. Did he fall, get arrested, lose interest, or just see this train coming and dart out of the way?
    Awesome post and thank you for it.

    +Dj Hammers When and why did the MTA remove the switch at Delancey-Essex between the southbound and center tracks?

    • @DJHammersTrains
      @DJHammersTrains  8 років тому

      +hobo753 The MTA is fully rebuilding the switches in that area. I have a video explaining what they're doing coming soon.

    I'm curious, how do you know the proper way to respond to the different yellow lights? Like at 07:27, it changed from what looks like a red + blue to a green. Is it just knowing the line or is there a method to the madness?

      +JesterHead That signal you're talking about is called a "Timer" signal. It is on a timer so that it will turn from red to green before you pass it if you are moving at a safe speed. If the train is going too fast, it will pass the signal while it is still red, triggering the emergency brakes. The "lunar white" light that is on when the signal is red indicates the timing circuit is active.

      When you are training to be a train operator, you get a book or sheet or some kind of a a document that shows EVERY sign and signal you'll see, what the meaning of each is and what you have to do as a train operator to comply. You've got to know everyone by heart and be able to pass a test before you're allowed to operate a train.

    • @DJHammersTrains
      @DJHammersTrains  8 років тому +1

      I'd like to do that some day. Unfortunately, the E and F lines don't have trains with front windows that passengers can look out of.

      +Dj Hammers thought that the E & F train are the same type as 7 train lol, so which lane's train has the window that u can film? :) (I know R train has it, but some of it are blurry)

    I guess it was a money issue for them not to use Broadway Junction trains for the 6th Avenue local. It just seem to make more sense to me.

    I still wonder where the rest of the tracks lead to when the train arrives at the last stop of the station. I noticed that once it arrives at the last stop, there's still tracks to continue on.wonder where it leads to

    • @phantomcruizer
      @phantomcruizer 6 років тому +1

      Christopher Trujillo It leads to a storage area further into the station at Parsons.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 4 роки тому

      Christopher Trujillo It’s a layup area. The two tracks were supposed to go further east towards Hollis.
