Schwarber smashes an absolute bomb in another playoff game. When you can get a reaction like that from Bryce Harper. It's forever a meme.
That was a 488 feet Homer the longest ever in that ballpark .

These Phillies are one of the best examples of a team peaking at the perfect moment, playing their best baseball of the season at just the right time, as I’ve seen in 50 years of following the sport. Starting pitching, timely hitting, and now even a reliable bullpen. If the defense tightens up this would be a pretty complete team. I mean, they finished the regular season 7-13 in their last 20 games, their playoff birth not clinched until almost the very end. Now it seems they can do no wrong. Timing is everything.
I'm really starting to believe that the Phills can truly do this.
They're playing lights out. The pitching has been unreal. While there wasn't much offense tonight (not surprising given Yu Darvish), the offense we got was more than enough. The team's just finding every way to get it done.
Edit: Don't think I'm counting out the Padres either, they're in the NLCS for a reason, and they want more. Game 2 proved that in spades. San Diego has that wild card magic that the Phils have.

Zack Wheeler is the most underrated pitcher in the game. Also, MAJOR tip of the cap to Darvish. I can't imagine how frustrating it can be to face him. This is gonna be a fun series.

As a Phillies fan, although im rooting for my team. I wouldn’t be upset if either team advances to WS. Both are wildcard underdogs and deserve to represent the NL for their brilliant performances thus far. May the best team win!

I am just happy we faced the Cardinals instead of the Mets. We were 5W and 14L versus the Mets. We ended up in the spot we were meant to be in.

A fair amount of the blame for this loss from the Padres standpoint has to fall on Machado, not a good performance from him when needed. Maybe not a good sign for them as to me it looked like he might be cooling off..

I watched the entire 2016 home run derby at Petco Park and never seen a ball hit into the second deck. Insane power by Schwarber and Harper's reaction says it all.

You could hear them from miles away and the fans used the braves tomahawk chant against them, also October weather in Philly is gonna be crazy, as the Padres are a team from SoCal I don't think they're ready for all that

Roberts can learn something from the Phillies. Don't take out your starting pitcher out in the 5th inning when he is rolling.
Doesn’t make sense to take ‘em out that early, especially when they’re rolling and if Wheelers elbow wasn’t starting to hurt a little bit, I think he should’ve kept going. He was only at 83 pitches and pitching phenomenally!

Thomson has been that guy all year, has faith in the whole team to get it done so he lets everyone get in on the action

Great pitching by Wheeler! Philly is red hot right now. Going to be a tough series. As a Padres fan, I am concerned about how ice cold Bell and Myers are (I know he got the one hit tonight, but overall he hasn't been good). Having two nearly automatic outs in the lineup is tough. I agree Manny also seems to be in a bit of a slump. Hopefully, Snell will have a good game tonight!

I can’t believe how both these wild card teams flipped their scripts. Earlier in the season, the Phillies were wildly panned for their offense-first free agent signings, poor defense, especially in the outfield, and their inconsistent offense. They beat the Mets, then Braves and are now in the LCS.
They beat the Cardinals, not the Mets. The Padres beat the Mets.
I said before the playoffs started that Phil was a dark horse team (SD as well). They have big power bats and their duo of Wheeler and Nola can shut any offense down. That's the formula that the Diamondbacks and Red Sox used to win the WS. This hurts as a Padres fan, but if we can't figure out a way to score some runs early, we're in big trouble
Coming from a Red Sox fan here, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I would add the Giants of the 2010s in there as well with Madbum and Cain. Johnson/ Schilling, Schilling/Pedro, Beckett/Schilling. Those were the good ol days of October pitching dominance. This Phillies team might be special.

Schwarber hasn’t been killing anything….it was great for him to get a monster home run but between him and Hoskins and outside of like two games, castellanos, those three are almost automatic outs. Harper has been carrying this team offensively and Jean has been solid and a few hits here and there from others but other then that the Phillies pitching is what has carried them. They need to really start clicking if they wanna finish this off and actually have a chance at winning the WS.
Both pitchers had a great game. Wheeler was just slightly better. This is going to be a great series. At least I hope it is. Also the Juan Soto strike out was a make up call so I don’t feel that bad about it.

I watched the game and i think every player from both teams were trying to do the same thing..every swing was extremely aggressive..probably due to the fact both pitchers dominate and its not likely to string base hits together to score runs
I just didn't feel the energy from SD today. I didn't have it personally watching it. I talked with a media member who was at the game, and he said Petco had nowhere near the energy it had for the Dodgers. Perfect situation for Philly to steal a game.
I mean the way we celebrated that dodger series win, it was a World series celebration minus the parade.. We may not wake up until game 3 honestly..
As a Phillies fan I could see and hear the difference on TV compared to the Dodgers series....didn't appear to be very intimidating tonight. Philly fans will be bringing it for sure in Game 3.
