    I Don’t Particularly Like Modes A Lot:
    Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian
    Little mnemonic that helped me remember the order :)

    Great Job Dan. This is the best and most simplistic and clear explanation of modes I have heard hear on the tube.

    Hi Dan, I wanted to say thank you very much for this video pertaining to the modes. I’ve watched numerous videos on this topic, and by far your tutorial is the best, at explaining and demonstrating the modes.

    This is helpful. After learning the modes. How do you actually know when to use them? When it works?

    • @OnlineBassCourses

      Thanks. The way I did it was to listen to bass lines and apply what I heard to modes. Tip: Joe Satriani is amazing for this! Listen to Crystal Planet. ua-cam.com/video/2iCNS3hEcQo/v-deo.html Those songs teach you the context from which you can take the ideas you like.

    Question so the number shown on the frets are only indication of where u are on the neck to do the mode or scale? Also thanks for showing the picture with the scales and the arrow now I got a screen shot of the idea of what to practice more often 👍

      Absolutely, just shift the pattern to a different root and you’re good to go. 👍

    Does the whole band need to be playing in the same mode? Or can you play whichever mode you want over the chords?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Рік тому +1

      Depends what context. In jazz, soloists have a lot of choice. In pop, rock, funk etc. people need to be playing the same scales otherwise it’ll sound too chaotic! So generally they stick to the same mode.

    I think JUICEBOX “ THE STROKES bassline is an example of Locrian mode.. and i think the Simpsons theme song is an example of Lydian?

    Hi Dan. A big thank you for your bass lessons. I also have an ‘82 Ibanez Roadstar. Was the paint stripped off yours to get to the wood grain. Looks good.

      Very cool! I bought this one like this. I think it must have been stripped, yes, although I know next to nothing about the history of these basses.

    The Greek modes were supposedly named after regions of Greece. Where I guess people liked the particular sound of their modes. I like to say that the Ionian people and the Aeolians used to squabble about things a lot. The Ionians were always so happy and the Aeolians were blue and bummed out until they got together and realized they were actually relatives. See how corny I can be? :)
