I honestly preferred the 90s version. Yeah it was long and crammed with unnecessary fillers, but it gave you time to bond with each character. I got to see Usagi go from a cowardly crybaby to a strong-willed princess willing to fight for those around her. They were a team of fire-forged friends and you got to see the actual formation of that bond. The modern pacing, while pretty and more in line with the manga, is way too fast.
I do like that they fixed Mamoru and Usagi's relationship bc the whole "couple that end up together even though like 90% of their conversations are just arguments" is an annoying cliche
Thank you for those Viz comments. People give the Viz dub so much crap and it's so uncalled for. The actors are great and the script does wonders for the series, especially Crystal. I fucking love Minako's lines in season 2 like "Well they just went from holy to creepy" in Act 15 xD
Mistakes were made in Crystal, but I still enjoyed its get-straight-to-the-point pace. The 90s anime is also enjoyable. Its humorous filler always got me to keep coming back for more. With that said, this review is very close to how I see Season 1 of Crystal. It's weird they changed how Queen Beryl died, I can only guess they tried to make Crystal a lot less bloody than the manga. What's worse is the logical sense of having the four Kings of Heaven being killed by Queen Metaria even though she hasn't been freed from her seal yet! Not to mention if she can fire that attack at any time she pleases... why didn't she do it on the Sailor Guardians, especially Sailor Moon, the only one who can kill her?! Well, I'm looking forward to see your review on Season 2. The Black Moon Arc is actually my favorite.

It's more fun to read the manga and then watch each episode. That's what I did when each episode came out.

The four kings of Heaven needed more time (and I feel like if they had stayed in their bodies for season two then it would have felt better because I didn't mind the romance being revealed late, we just needed more time) and maybe they should have broken up the acts into parts one and two or just made the season three movies long or OVAs. I like the storyline here better than the manga version (and the old anime version) of them because it really felt rushed there and then they came back and died again but then weren't fully dead and are stuck in the crystals. That was just a lot.
I feel like someone is saying no too much to the guys having more time and then at least in America some fans ruined it, but then recently the fans that liked it have gotten to have more of a voice.
The animation looked actually nice at times, but there were a lot of moments where the softness wasn't there and that's the problem. Season three lost some detail at times, but it was the softness that saved it. The movies look better. I wish the first season could have looked like that first music video or at least the best moments. I'm upset about that.

I have to admit, i don't like this adaptation, specially the part of the generals, and the animation (also i don't like CGI) and the part of Berly death....just a neckleage and we're done....what the hell
And the score it's good i feel that lacks of more action tracks, they sound to generic to me.
But i enjoy it, like everytime i watch anything sailor moon relates.

I still kinda hate the first two Crystal seasons, they just butcher the side characters and you don't care about most of the cast unless you've already read the manga or seen the 90s anime (watching with a first time viewer, she basically enjoyed mamoru being on screen because of the seiyuu) and oh my good the art style and animation.
I love reading the manga as I watch this and i'm excited at the fact that they had Sailor Neptune and Uranus NOT be cousins this time (I can't spell their Japanese names)

I agree at some points like the side characters (other sailor guardians , Knights of heaven). Should’ve gotten more story arcs but that’s what fanfiction is for

Definitely was entertaining but could do without the s**cide scene and the 4 kings being snatched from us... cruel af. Unpopular opinion: I find it sad how the inner scouts sacrifice everything for Usagi and how she's only one who gets closure and a "happy ending". Forgive my grammar.

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I preferred a majority of the art style in the first two seasons, it was closer to the manga, the character’s beauty felt palpable, and it gave it a distinct look. The updated art style looks just like the 90s and every other anime.
I prefer the cgi the girls are beatiful and the transformations aren’t rushed and nicely paced and are the longest a good example is Jupiter’s transformation when she get her entire suit in the 90 it would jump cut to her feet. in crystal season 1 would actually pan behind and down to her feet no cuts she is on screen at all times. And her showing her planet symbol and looking at her face omg she is gorgeous.

watch both. Plus the 90s anime is a classic so yeah be sure to check it out. As to which one you should watch first....um personally I would say watch the old one first because well you can watch the entire series where with crystal not all the seasons are out yet. But I mean it’s up to you.

If I could fix Sailor Moon Crystal, I would still leave the Sailor Senshi X Shitennou love-pairing canon. But during Act 12, when the inner guardians successfully healed them, I will not let Queen Metalia wipe them out of existence (because that scene is very awkward with the girls unconvincingly crying). Instead of that, the four guardians and the four knights flew together to find Queen Metalia attacking Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. At this point, Sailor Moon was also able to heal Mamoru without all the "holy sword slicing drama." I would not let Usagi be hopelessly pathetic by repeating her mistake in the past life. After Luna's words of encouragement, Usagi simply was able to use the full power of the Silver Crystal, completing it and bringing Mamoru back to himself in the process. Then, the power-hungry Metalia attack them. And then, the shocked inner guardians witnessed the heroic sacrifice of the Shitennou by blocking Metalia's attack to their master, and that is only when they turned into gemstones. At the end of Act 14, Sailor Moon should have the capacity to turn them back to human (just like what she did to the stones of the Sailor Quartet). To make the Shittenou disappear from the scene, as to not disturb the continuity of the next four arcs, the restored four knights simply went to their respective bases: the four corners of the Earth (West, East, South, North), alluding to what they are based on (Buddhist's Four Heavenly Kings). Give them their own castles in these four corners or something. They continue to support Mamoru via gemstones (this can also be their star seeds or something), where they can appear holographically in Act 18 and in Dream Arc, keeping him updated about the four corners of the Earth. At the end of Dream Arc, I would make the Shitennou appear in Elysion along with the cats in their human forms (and perhaps the crows in human forms as well, because the more the merrier!). As the Senshi powered up to their Eternal forms, the four knights summoned their gemstones, surrounding Mamoru with bright light and that is when the Golden Crystal appeared... In the end, everybody witnessed the defeat of Nehelenia, and the Shitennou could leave the scene permanently with Helios this time, making way for continuity of the Stars arc.

i guess the autor try to make like romeo and juliet , you know all about the rush love and the consequence. After all this two no matte the life past and how is good present in the show , in this era they have i don´t no a week oh month they know each other.
And what i think sailor moon crystal heee is okey but is boring the fist act.
the fist yes is very 90 and they have the formula but a least they give a this girls a personality oh a emotion,funny thinks until the drama ... except usagi she is always the beast becuase she try ... and why the remove the kick in the door that think was in the manga.
i like the backstory of the guardian and make sense.. to bad they died in both version (manga and modern) and yes is rush both make sense after all this guys they are supposed to be their counterparts so points for trying.
Yeah, this is my only experience with Sailor Moon, having binge-watched it with a free Crunchyroll trial. And I watched it subbed instead of dubbed to make sure it was authentic. But, it sounds like this is a 4Kids Winx Club situation, where the dub makes the show better in little ways. But I'll probably never get around to watching the dub.
I’m not opposed to Sailor Moon Crystal at all but I really don’t like the art style of Crystal. The 90’s anime was drawn so much better and was beautiful all around. I can’t say the same for Crystal.
The art is ok. But the lack of animation budget was mainly the problem of the first two seasons of Crystal. It was originally a Web exclusive series instead of airing on TV normally. Season 3 became TV series and it had better animation and especially Eternal/Cosmos movies.

I don't get why people get upset over the suicide scene. I mean there was in the manga (althought, in My opinion, it was much more powerfull), also that scene isn't the realization moment for Usagi
The thing with me is there past, I actually expected worse then just a suicide. This series touches base on the more important things *to me* like origin and why the fate because love stories are cliche but I think they actually did a good job.
The sailor moon crystal music is terrible!!! It ruined the anime for me. The 90's is op by comparison.
I actually fine it to be good for the tone of the anime, just like the 90s music fits good for the 90s anime because it had a certain tone. Crystal is much more mature and serious while the 90s was more comedy and fun. I've seen some amv of crystal with the 90s music it sound quite nice but if I were to watch the episodes I will prefer the music there because it fits better in the texts of the situation. Conclusion 90s sailor moon music will always fit best for the 90s anime and sailor moon crystal music will always fit best for the crystal anime.
Honestly, i find the dub of season 1 of Crystal worst than the old one. Why? Simply because the characters in the 90's anime had emotions in their voices; you can feel what they are saying and related to them as well. Yeah it was cringy and a bit loisy someties but there's still energy in their tones. Now, everyone has a neutral|bored tone except Usagi and Mamoru. Luna and Artemis have less emotions than before, it,s that bad U-U Heck even Wiseman's voice in the dub is lame. You go from a creepy dark tone voice to a squeeky pervert one. First, it's not intimidating at all! Second, i can't take him seriously; he's more silly than scary with that change and i care less about him then in the old anime.
Also, why the heck Chibi-Usa will aim a gun at a stranger for no good reason? True she didn't know who Sailor Moon is but it's still irrespectful and not very cute. Oh and kissing an adult, really? This isn't funny or charming, it's disgusting!
Another problem with the remake, the characters are boring. Mars, Venus and the other are so lame when they aren't transformed. They got no personalities traits, all we liked about them is gone. Yeah their more competent than before but it doesn't fix everything. I prefer their 90's version, they were much more likable!
I don't like the ugly 3d in the opening and during the transformations, hope it isn't in season 2 cause it's painful to look at and ruin the beauty of this scene XS The new opening is cute though but nos as catchy as the old one.
I liked Mamoru and Usagi's relation, they are so cute together! It's a nice change howhever doesn't make the show better or fix all the bad ones i talked about earlier.
