Absolute cherry!🍒! Red is great color for this car ,really makes it stand out !my dad had a blue one brand new 1970 when I was born and that's the car I was brought home in from the hospital so I have a very special bond with this model and want to buy one now I'm in my 40s!
@Deionte321 A lot of time cutting sheetmetal and welding for the rear window channel. Getting the car all primed and slick takes alot of block sanding and body filler. When we had it together like at 1:05 in the video you didn't see all the times we had to take doors and fenders off to get them to fit straight. Just lots of time and work but in the end it is all worth it!
hey i bought a 71 monte from my dad in 85 im 44 now. ive had 73 novas 65 mustang. 66 nova.68 camaro but that was the best car i ever had i wish i would have kept the 71 monte one day i will have a nother that is an awesome car.you dont see many
@Vert0130 Thanks for the Thank you!!! It means alot! My dad put alot of time into it! Right now I'm trying to sell the engine that got that 10 sec pass, good engine but too high compression for boost. I'm looking at getting a 632 with twin 88 mm turbos for it. I want to see how fast I can get it to go and stay completely street. I will never cage, cut or gut this car!
Beautiful car,I'm working on my wifes 71 454SS that we've owned since 1981.We've got the build sheet on it,so there's no dought about it being a true SS,but I blew the original engine back in about 82 drag racing a 70 Dodge Charger RT,but I was winning before she went.
This car is in my dreams.....my 1st car is 96 z34 and blew motor....got 3.8 s charged now....but dreaming of a this car....and one that has a motor u can see work on and modify without worrying bout digging to deep....just want steel no fiberglass shit! Damn beautiful car n songs! Cash 4 life
Thanks for posting such a great video showing the before and after...hoping to find a project to work on with my young son at some point, and this will help to show him what can be accomplished, even with such a rough canvas. The Monte is gorgeous, and the video quality was excellent as well! A little Cash sets it off right!
very nice car! My dad has a '70 SS, its a rock solid original car from california. We are restoring a '69 Camaro but i might try to convince him into throwing a motor in it, thats all it needs besides little stuff! enjoy that Monte.
@JimboVids We changed the original 12 bolt rear end with a Moser 12 bolt rear end and stiffer shocks and springs. Bout to change it though! Its soon going to be tuckin 295/45 17 Mickey Street Radials and lowered ride height of 2 inches. Gotta get her hooking for the power its about to recieve. Thanks for watching and asking, you have a first gen monte as well?
@Monte1970SS I run a 70 Chevelle Malibu that I've put a big block 396 in and a TH400 trans and 12 bolt posi with 3.73 gears. It's respectable, but low 13's is all I've run on street tires through the exhaust. I'm sure with massaging it'd probably run mid 12's. Have never done much with the car after the kids were born. Now that my youngest boy is getting older and showing interest I may start working on it again. It's been garaged for many years.
This motor has done its job and exceeded my expectations! Honestly I am very pleased with the 632, no complaints so far and its been 2 years now and 10,000 miles later and runs just like day one. Very good setup for price!
My first brand new car was a 76 Monte Carlo landau. Think I paid a little less than $7000 tax and all. Had her for 12 years, horse power went from a stock 350 making about 150 horse to a final 420 horsepower. Wish I had her now!
@argile73 I have the same tire size as well. It is not a true SS, used to be a 350 car. So no air ride in back, all we did was change the original 12 bolt rear end with a Moser 12 bolt. It changed the mounts a little, making it sit higher in the back. Did you trim the lip off the quarters? I did that as well.
@sokodad 70 Chevelle Malibu awesome! Low 13's are very respectable with a 396 and TH400! I know it'll run 12's just give it and thats great that your son shows interest in the car. Keep it on the road where it belongs!
what are your honest opinions of this motor ? me and my dad are going to build a car soon and i would love to stick that 632 in a 1974 nova im between a nova/chevelle or a pro street small block 1973 duster with a small block that a guy we know has
Hi there...you have an awesome car,and I must say you have done a terrific job... Also huge respect from me,for not putting the modern type ugly rims on this beautiful classic... thumbs up my friend... drive safe ;)
Monte carlos are fairly affordable. In fair shape, driver quality type cars needing paint work, interior, light work etc...range from 6-10k and fully restored show cars anywhere from 15-25k tops. I'm redoing a 72 monte carlo now and putting a modern efi engine in it. Soon to be for sale if interested.
Thank you. But I found a old one that's been parked for a long time out in the country and I wanted to go see if I could buy it and was just wondering what a good price would be.
Depends on shape. When I bought the 72 I'm redoing, I spent 2k for the car, minus engine. I've seen them cheaper but need lots of work, all depends on shape.
@lilpaulweb Yeah most people have camaros and chevelles. Monte Carlos are kinda the forgotten car but I love it, very solid car! Man you did have a few cars, this was my first and only old school car. You gotta get another monte!
@Monte1970SS Thanks for the comments. I got your car in my "cool cars" playlist. I let you know in the future how it goes with getting it back on the road.
@5BobbyDavis That is too funny! Hey your right, you were winning and thats all that matters! Blow or go, yours did both. It this was an original SS it would've stayed that way but since it was an old 350 car, and didn't even have original engine, time to go big! I wish I had a wife with a 71 monte! Take care of that car!
Great video! I have a 71 that’s getting done, also interested in how you installed the a/c. You have any videos or pictures on that? At some point I’ll figure out how to add my pictures from my iPhone to UA-cam, lol Great car 👍🏻
the 1970 Monte SS 454 is one of the most under appreciated muscle cars out there, I NEVER see them on any of the Mecum, Barret Jackson, or any other auctions, why is that? I have also heard the expression that a Monte is a Chevelle wearing a tie and sports jacket
Hahaha I like that saying! Yeah monte carlos were first built as a quality family coupe never really meant to be a muscle car. Still I don't see why they can't be as good as chevelles and why you don't see many being restored considering how many were built.
Monte SS It is kinda weird though, it being a "family coupe", being offered with a 454 SS model it's first year of production, am I right? Don't get me wrong I love 'em, especially the 1970 SS model the most, either way.....you built a beauty of a beast there my friend!
Nice car. I have two but not at that level yet. My gramps bought one when I was 12 and we were working on it before he died in 1990. That car has not moved out of the barn since 1990. I have another which was my first car I had when I was a teen. It was my fathers then I inherited it when he bought a new car. I fixed it up and threw a 383 stroker in it. Was a nice car until this dumb broad t-boned me. Now it sits as a parts car lol. One of these days I'll make one car out of the two. Married with 3 kids at the present time so it makes it a little tough hehehe!!! Good job with the resto and keeping it in the family can't wait to see what you do with it next!
Sorry for your grandpa and the accident! Hard times but yeah you one day can get back on them to make a sweet ride again! I understand about family though. For sure though keep the car and restore it, well worth it...trust me!
This car is so sexy I've been looking for one as a project and can't find any, I found one that was for 16000$ and I was almost complete but don't have that kind of money
+Monte SS how much did it cost to restore? it looked like you did most of it. and how did you deal with the rust? I am asking because me and my father a restoring one 1970 it's been neglected.
+Patrick Velasquez I spent roughly 15k to restore her. My pops did all the metal, paint and body work. He cut out areas with rust and made new pieces out of metal and patch worked it in, since they don't make a good bit of sheetmetal for these cars.
either you or your brother just have to much time on your hands to make a viedo like this, now thats cool, great job and no I'm not going to race you lol
Glad to see someone putting this kind of work into a Monte rather than a Camaro or a Chevelle! Keep up the good work... It looks great!
I admire you and your fathers work. Great job!
1970 Monte Carlo - One of the greatest American cars ever made! Beautiful job restoring it!!
Thank you very much!
I love this video, to show the process from rust bucket to a fine shiny machine. I feel happy we that we can preserve American muscle.
Very cool my dad had a 70 SS and a 72 Sport coupe....i'm building a 72 now
hands down the best Monte Carlo restoration video
Beautiful car. Just about lost me on the aftermarket wheel, but when you said it just wasn't right, I knew you were a man after my own heart.
Absolute cherry!🍒! Red is great color for this car ,really makes it stand out !my dad had a blue one brand new 1970 when I was born and that's the car I was brought home in from the hospital so I have a very special bond with this model and want to buy one now I'm in my 40s!

Good job on bringing her back!!! Your right Detroit got the rims right. This was done right. Thank your dad and your hard work. Awesome car.
Simply a beautiful piece of art !
@Vert0130 Thanks for the Thank you!!! It means alot! My dad put alot of time into it! Had a 72 Ss monte. Triple black. Wish I had that car back.

at bring a tear to my eye, over joy
I got a 1970 SS sitting in my garage, I started work on the motor but still has paint and not too bad the body, maybe by next year.
well done, just starting my Monte Carlo build
I'd love to see it! Sorry to hear he passed but it sounds like he did an excellent job on the rebuild!
Thanks for posting such a great video showing the before and after...hoping to find a project to work on with my young son at some point, and this will help to show him what can be accomplished, even with such a rough canvas. @JimboVids We changed the original 12 bolt rear end with a Moser 12 bolt rear end and stiffer shocks and springs. Bout to change it though!
