    Paul McCartney's a cool cat vocally. Most of the time, he's Mr. Pop Vocal, very bright. Then out of nowhere he lays down the growl or the scream that lets you know how legit he is.

      Paul modeled his scream on Little Richard, when the Beatles opened for Richard in Hamburg. Richard heard them in England, and invited them to open for him. He was very helpful to them and helped them get along in Hamburg on their small pay there. That is how they met Billy Preston, who was in Richard’s band, and later became The Fifth Beatle. (Yes, I know that George Martin was also the Fifth Beatle!).

      I've seen this assertion before, and while I won't say it's inaccurate, IMO it falls short of the whole story. Take "you have found her, now go and get her". Just who did Julian find, and why should he let her into his heart and under his skin? I take the position that while it opens addressing Julian, Paul pivots to talk to John. Paul knew that John's current marriage was essentially dead, but he believed in love, and (perhaps optimistically but accurately) recognized that his friend had finally found a love that could transform him in Yoko. So "let her under your skin" is clearly about her, as is the initial "let her into your heart is advice to Julian regarding Yoko.
      Poor Cynthia got left out for whatever reasons, but it seems clear to me that Paul's talking to father and son about accepting Yoko, each in their own ways. The language is too specific to ignore, JMNSHO.

      There's a clip from Paul's performance at the Queen's Golden Jubilee concert in 2012. While he was playing "All My Loving", they cut to a shot of the Royal Family and guests, and singing along were Rowan Williams, who was the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, and, of all people, Princess Anne. Of course, since she was 13 or 14 when the song came out so she was the right age for it, but it was still surprising to see.

    As some have noted in the comments, you NEED to do the live version. The Beatles had quit touring altogether in 1966 having grown pretty sick of it. They still put out stellar albums over the next two years but people craved to see them. So, they went on 'The David Frost Show' and performed essentially live except for some prerecorded backing tracks to fill out the sound. They also did 'Revolution' on the same show. At the end of the song during that long mantra fade-out, they had a large crowd of people surround and join them for a big sing-a-long. What was very special is that the crowd was intended to represent a cross section of the world, diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, old, young, etc. Back in 1968, this was still considered ground breaking. Basically, it pissed on the 'establishment's' concept that people should be kept segregated. To their credit, when they were still touring, there was a venue that stated they were segregating Blacks from Whites in the audience. The Beatles stated back that if they did that, they wouldn't do the concert at the venue. So powerful was the band that the venue backed down and Blacks were allowed to mingle with Whites. Naturally there was some blowback from parents and authorities, but the Beatles didn't care. They were always all about unity.
    This song is very similar in general structure to 'Let It Be'. Both were radio-friendly songs by Paul, both started out focused on him playing piano to start and slowly bringing in the other vocals and instruments.
    As you get to know the members, you will also find that the fans had become very fixated on them and expected all four to be present. Ringo had left the group about two weeks prior to the appearance on Frost's show having just returned the day before to a drum kit covered in flowers welcoming him back.

      There's a documentary called "How The Beatles Changed The World" and its initial thesis claimed the Beatles changed huge swaths of society and I was like "I'm a huge Beatles fan but surely they're overstating that!?" ...by the end it was clear the Beatles changed the world completely and utterly; they're one of the most radical forces for positive change mankind has ever seen.

    • @hungfao
      @hungfao 3 роки тому +3

      @@Trendyflute I don't know how old you are but if you lived through it like I did, you'd know this to be accurate. How could a pop band from Liverpool become a world-wide act? And yet, they did and remained at the top of their game and public fixation from the beginning until the end. 50/60 years later, they're still being lauded over. It was a perfect storm, a combination of individuals unlike any before or since. When they broke up, it was clear from their solo material that the sum of the parts didn't quite equal the whole. Producer George Martin even noted that the REAL magic happened when all four were in the studio at the same time. It is this kind of mythology that keeps them fascination even decades later.

To me, the joy of new love and growing up and loving yourself is almost too much joy for the song or for anyone else to express it in words. Those final 3 minutes are more beautiful than words are able to describe. It's just pure joy... Let yourself enjoy it.. it's right there for you.

    Thx again HazeBruv! Just a 'single' never found an album until after they disbanded. Released a month or two before dropping The Beatles (White Album).
    It was the longest radio single ever for the time as all songs on the radio were no more than three minutes with this going 7 plus mins.
    flip the A side to the B side and it's Revolution.. amaze-balls as the yoot say

    Ringo was supposed to come in on the drums earlier, but for the final take, the rest of the band hadn't realised that Ringo had gone out for a piss and started without him. He rushed in and started when he did, and it works better.

    This song was written for Johns son who was dealing with the divorce of John from his first wife Cynthia. I think that is a big factor in why it was so popular. So many of their songs were made with love.

    I’m 61 and grew up with this stuff. I’ll admit I’m more of a stones fan (but did see the Beatles land at Dorval (Montreal ) Airport when I was 4. That being said. Paul has got to have the biggest vocal range ever. I liked the Stones cause they were gritty but the Beatles had 3 great singers and 3 great song writers ( when Jand P would let George) they wrote the Stones first UK hit ‘ I wanna be yer Man ‘ Brian Epstein ( Beatles manager) thought it was too ‘wild ‘ for the Beatles so they gave it to the Stones. John and Paul were in the studio when they recorded it.

    This song Paul wrote for John Lennon's son Julian who he called Jude. Paul was more a fatherly figure for Julian than his real father was. After John left Julian's mother he sort of just didn't show much love for poor Julian, or at least not as much so as his kids that were born later.
