Celestial Cyst is somehow the most satisfying-sounding song title while also being morbid at the same time. That alone is a pretty good summation of this record.
I was so glad that they returned to the more melodic sound featured so prominently on Labyrinth Constellation since that is exactly what drew me in first. The lead melodies feel so glitchy and strange in nature yet somehow feel at home over these punishingly mournful, dissonant chord structures. And the riffs. The riffs are so damn cool and versatile everywhere you tune in. Also as much as I appreciate occasional campiness in death metal, there is something that is just so impressive about this band. They execute this cataclysmically violent sci-fi sound/theme with a straight face and zero cheese (yet again). This record is absolutely a highlight of the year for me 🌯
Artificial Brain has been just killing it. They've managed to build their sound around a post-apocalyptic world they've built up and just nail it every time. I love this band.
Nice to see this covered and scoring so well after Infrared Horizon. Personally I love all three of the albums, and this one here is probably my favourite metal release of the year!
this album fucks very, very, VERY hard and it’s a strong contender for best DM of 2022. already my favorite record of the year. it’s honed the band’s sound down to an infinitesimal edge. strong 9/10.
Artificial Brain, while not creating the most inventive tech-death in the modern sphere, are certainly doing it justice. Good performances that don't need to be flashy and a sense of polyphony that makes Artificial Brain feel almost orchestral in bits. Never expected you to cover this LP, good review Anthony
It was cool to see Will Smith doing music and he's a very talented musician and all but I just hope he gets back to focusing full time on his professional baseball career.
The vocals really accentuate the automatous nature of the bands theme. It sounds very feral with a specific mechanized or “programmed” timbre, which separate this bands vox from most brutal death throat work in intent and aura. Some of my favorite vocals tbh.
I think fantano wrote off infrared horizon too haphazardly. While it has its problems production wise, the compositions are absolutely top notch, imo the best they've done yet. This new album is great but it doesn't grip me the same as the first 2. Maybe it needs to grow on me more though
I think the s/t is my favorite but infrared horizon still has some absolute assbeaters. Floating in delirium and Anchored to the inlayed arc are definitely some of the most ferocious songs theyve put out.
So sad Will is leaving, his vocals are so unique, the new lyricist is good, and still keen to see the direction they take, but won’t quiet be the same.

Thanks so much for giving this amazing band some love (along with a fair assessment of their limitations). I’ve been a fan for a long time and have this album on repeat. I’d encourage you to give Infrared Horizon another chance, it’s effin beautiful.
I love Artificial Brain and Colin Marston, and the music on this album is amazing as always - but I’m surprised nobody is commenting on the production for this album how it sounds cloudy and almost “unmixed”. I wonder if it was a conscious decision or not - because I personally LOVE the sound on Labyrinth and thought Infrared was fine, but this one felt like a big step back and it really hurts my enjoyment for the album. Still gonna jam the album because these dudes are top-shelf musicians - but surprised to see nobody commenting on the mix.
I’m gonna miss Will too. His podcast called Heavy Hole Podcast is fantastic for all things extreme Metal. I talk to him online a good bit and he’s a great guy!
Not me wearing a Artificial Brain shirt currently. I think the vocalist will work for Afterbirth. Not sure. Looking forward. I’ll miss his work with Artificial Brain
I loved this album. I actually perceived the dominant vocal style pretty differently. In general I think this particular style cam be over the top at best and goofy at worst. But this seemed like a pretty good use of them imo. They sit well in the mix, allowing the listener to focus a bit more on the instrumentals than usual, and have a certain rhythm to them thats seems to complement each song
Sonically -Cinematically it would be like as if Genndy Tartakovsky made a world building series like Primal, but set in a type off MTG Mirrodin or Mirrodin Besieged world.
It took me a while to get into this album bur alas, I do like it now. I actually really liked the one before this that you didn't like. Coming from more of a core metal style background, I found the production in that one to be a little more inviting. I could read the sc-fi malfunctioning AI sound a little easier. There are a few songs that bleed together a little more in the new recored; like tracks 2, 4 and 5. This new one sounded a lot denser and muddier to me at first. I think it still does but I think I "get it" now.
Fortunately and unfortunately I'm new to Artificial Brain but they are 1 of my newer favorites and I love the Science Fiction theme. The album art reminds me of Swamp Thing which I also love
