They also have a different past history.. Austria, through the Habsburgs, dominated a huge empire until 1918, at first alone, then together with Hungary, in contrast to Switzerland which rose up from small communities, keeping itself landlocked and neutral. These are two aspects that will be typical of Austria only after WWI, in which it played an important role

I have lived and worked in both countries and they are beautiful. Living in Vienna is one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.It should be noted that Zurich looks like a boring suburb compared to a city like Vienna. However wonderful countries and good people.
The biggest difference is that rental costs in Zurich are just crazy compared to Vienna and it's almost impossible to find affordable housing in the center of Zurich. Though a great advantage about Zurich is that the commuter rail system is much better than in Vienna and the suburbs are better connected to the city, so you can find very affordable rents about 15 to 30 minutes from the center with trains leaving (at least) every 30 minutes. If you live in the suburbs I'm sure you could do much more with your salary in Zurich than in Vienna. Zurich is also the better structured city overall. Austria is an awesome country, but Switzerland's much greater wealth ensures better public transportation, cleaner cities, and amazing infastructure. Vienna and Salzburg are some of the best cities for tourism though.
Sounds about right to me! For me, the biggest drawback to Switzerland is what you mention about Austria - more art, culture, intellectual discussions and more vibrant towns and villages. I like the Swiss economy and fiscal system though, and I don't want any part of the EU.
While most Austrians I met during my trip had a pleasant disposition, especially in Salzburg, the rudest and unhospitable person among the 6 European countries I recently visited was found in Vienna. I was looking to visit Heeresgeschichtliches. As a non-native speaker, this word is a mouthful. I went to the information counter at the train station in Vienna, asking for directions to that place. I spoke politely and showed the lady at the counter the place's name on my mobile phone as I didn't know how to pronounce the multi-syllabic word. She raised her voice and said, "I REFUSE to read from the mobile phone screen!" I'm sure reading from a mobile phone, especially with refractive panels between us, can pose a challenge to see clearly, but using the word "refuse" in such an uncouth tone definitely leaves little to be desired. Even if she's lazy to take the extra step to read, I would have appreciated it more, even if she could have come up with an excuse and said, "I can't see clearly. My eyes are not at their best today", or something along that line. Fortunately, I vaguely recalled what the museum was exhibiting and told her. She immediately became helpful and gave me various options. However, the damage of her rudeness was done. I didn't want to get into an argument which would further sour my experience in Austria. When she finally said, "Thank you and have a nice day", all I did was reply, "ok," and walked away instead of "Danke", which I would usually say to most service staff in the region, especially when they have done an excellent service. Since she was so rude, I didn't bother. It was a distasteful experience, but I'm glad that most Austrians were unlike her. Though one unpleasant experience usually holds more memory space than several pleasant ones. The friendliest people I met were actually in Berlin, Munich and Budapest. Maybe I was expecting more finesse from Austria since it was the land of music and culture, but I'm glad that there were other Austrians, such as one sweet lady I met on the plane with whom I had a very long and heartfelt conversation.
Hubsburg empire included parts of Poland and where Polish lived. The Habsburg empire (or Austrian Hungarian empire) included 12 languages, some influence still seen in the architecture was permeated into the culture, Krakow, Praha Wien, Budapest and so on all have many similarities
Actually, the way of living of people almost close both in Austria and Switzerland but If I were to pick one of those countries to live in I'd go with Switzerland because the opportunities are way broader as it's much more Internationalized, this case reflects other parts of the life as well, such as being able to get adapted easily as an outsider and more welcomed by local people according to what I assume.
What you want is city life how it is nearly everywhere. Internationalized means basically where there is not real or less of traditional Schwitzerland.
You’re partially mistaken i think. There are rural areas as well in which you can experience the traditional part of the country.Despite the fact that the country is internationalized. And i reckon, Switzerland could be the few countries in the world that provides rural and urban life blend in together. So, that’s why the city life you have in Switzerland is somewhat rural because of the structure of the country in general. @ Karl Huber
Both real Friends,i think the Swiss are more Friendly to the Portuguese than Austrians who are more to Portuguese State.Swiss are Humanists,i like much of them,Austrians are more reserved, but similar in Culture.

@@BlertaLa If Vienna is ugly then what about Los Angeles? Dirty whit holes in the streets and plenty of homeless? :) What architecture dominates in LA? Baroque? renaissance? classicism? :)))))
WTF .!! How did you know I needed this ,I’ve been watching Austrian videos lately only to see this pop up, I thought it was just UA-cam algorithm haha
Hi good to see you I am your friend from Ethiopia
I live in Austria, however, I love them both. We are diplomatic neighbours. 🙌🇦🇹🇨🇭
Love both of them, Switzerland have the diversity among four different language and cultural areas and Austria have a lots of history to tell 👍
PS: Can you make a video about Finland Vs Sweden? There you can find a lots differences, not only just with the language 😉
All the best from HKI 🇫🇮👋
There's an incredible lot of history & archaeology in Switzerland as well 👍
Human beings have dwelled here for 50'000 years ☠️🗿🏚️🏰
I love Austria but I prefer Switzerland because its more internationalized, cleaner and convenient.
Austria is an awesome country, but Switzerland's much greater wealth ensures better public transportation, cleaner cities, and amazing infastructure. Vienna and Salzburg are some of the best cities for tourism though.
l o v e your danish accent!
I (German from Bavaria living in Seattle, WA) lost my heart to Lugano, Tessin :-)
Come out of America
dream place on earth
Sounds about right to me! For me, the biggest drawback to Switzerland is what you mention about Austria - more art, culture, intellectual discussions and more vibrant towns and villages. I like the Swiss economy and fiscal system though, and I don't want any part of the EU.
4:34 They've changed the name to Fugging 🥺
Austria wins for me hands down.
🇦🇹❤🇭🇺
While most Austrians I met during my trip had a pleasant disposition, especially in Salzburg, the rudest and unhospitable person among the 6 European countries I recently visited was found in Vienna. I was looking to visit Heeresgeschichtliches. As a non-native speaker, this word is a mouthful. I went to the information counter at the train station in Vienna, asking for directions to that place. I spoke politely and showed the lady at the counter the place's name on my mobile phone as I didn't know how to pronounce the multi-syllabic word. She raised her voice and said, "I REFUSE to read from the mobile phone screen!"
I'm sure reading from a mobile phone, especially with refractive panels between us, can pose a challenge to see clearly, but using the word "refuse" in such an uncouth tone definitely leaves little to be desired.
Since when Poland is a neighbor of Austria
Hubsburg empire included parts of Poland and where Polish lived. The Habsburg empire (or Austrian Hungarian empire) included 12 languages, some influence still seen in the architecture was permeated into the culture, Krakow, Praha Wien, Budapest and so on all have many similarities
Silesia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, belonged to the Austrian part...
I live in Austria Austria is a very beautiful country♥️
I love you Austria and Switzerland
Ich liebe die beide, mini schwiiz ist das beste, ich liebe mini schwiiz❤❤
🇦🇹 i live in Austria. I love Austria. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks i miss these videos
we have different political systems since hundreds of years.
True, yours is much better. Should actually be in the video it's a major point.
Love both countries
Switzerland always
we love the portuguese people here.
@@ThousandFo0tKrutch Thank you man! You have a great country! We love suisse people too! A big hug from NE. 🇵🇹 🇨🇭
thank you
Both real Friends,i think the Swiss are more Friendly to the Portuguese than Austrians who are more to Portuguese State.Swiss are Humanists,i like much of them,Austrians are more reserved, but similar in Culture.
AUSTRIA AUSTRIA AUSTRIA. I am from Austria.
Nicee😍😍
I love both from Croatia 🇭🇷❤️🇦🇹🇨🇭
Short version: both have the same population, Austria twice the size, Switzerland twice the GDP.
I’ve never been to Switzerland, but from what I’ve heard, I would say that Austria is ‘cozier’ and ‘warmer’ than Switzerland.
