Develop Your Percussion Student's Skills by Teaching them to Use "The Grid" -- FUNdamental Fridays

Today the Percussive Arts Society welcomes clinician Dr. Brian Nozny to explain the basics of using "The Grid," a classic technique to develop your percussion skills. "This is a tool that transcends instrument. You can take the grid or 4-2-1 concept and apply it to any instrument," he says.
The traditional "grid" is a means of practicing various rudiments inserted into a standard surrounding rhythmic pattern, focusing on mastery of the rudiment. Modern "grid" patterns take this a step further by moving accent patterns throughout the rudiment (e.g. taking a flam accent and putting the accent on the first, then second, then third partials of the triplet).

Grid is such a great way to refine a rudiment (or just playing in general). I currently have just under a thousand grid variations in the home tab of my UA-cam channel, with more to come.
