i am a cellist ... I had no idea you could just do harmonics.
The old school of cello etudes doesn't do harmonics.
Bach uses harmonics - it surprised me so I learned harmonics. But Bach played all the instruments. The old violin virtuosos were doing harmonics all the time.
I think there is some methods lost to history here. Reinventing the wheel.
Cello was supposed to be a filler sound so harmonics were not useful for that - but solo instruments used harmonics to help them stand out.

In my experience we had to learn harmonics early on since beginners usually have sluggish shifts and holding that thumb down on 8th position can unbearable especially on beginner cello😂

As a woodwind, just wondering how do you do, how to obtain the harmonic on the string instrument? I have an impression it's the touch of your fingers that's lighter while doing the harmonics..? For the flute, we obtain them by changing the airstream, adapting the diaphragm, lips, tongue etc.
