America comes here nearly every summer to perform. I’ve seen them several times at Humphrey’s By The Bay here in San Diego. It’s an intimate setting that’s close enough for boaters to drop anchor and enjoy the show for free! This group made a big impact on me growing up. I love America!
Per Songfacts this song is about a skeptic who doesn't believe in love until he meets a girl who shows him it's real. The song was written by Russ Ballard, whose other compositions include "I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida and "New York Groove" by Ace Frehley. A key component in this song is the "do do do do do do" vocal break, which Russ Ballard put into the song specifically to suit America, whose two vocalists could create a nice harmony. This part was a nod to the Crosby, Stills & Nash song "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," which contains a similar section.
Another great band I grew up with. Love their folk rock sound. They had so many great hits in the 70's-80's such as "I Need You", "Ventura Highway", “Muskrat Love”, "Tin Man", "Lonely People", "Daisy Jane", "The Border" etc.
I was 14 and listening to my transistor radio on my bed, jamming out listening to the music and their HORSE WITH NO NAME song, came on and I have been a fan ever since!!! great , laid back, 70s group. Dont recall which song you have done before but VENTURA HIGHWAY is also great, with incredible lyrics.
I'll make my standard comment on America. When The Beatles ended, George Martin could work with any band he chose. He chose America. As GM said, all you need is ears.
Love your channel and reactions! I just saw America in Corpus Christi, TX a month ago with my girl. I hadn't seen them in concert since April of 1977. They were amazing and their vocals and harmonies are still on point. Tin Man, All My Life, Sandman, Horse With No Name. Daisy Jane, I Need You, Ventura Highway - these guys were hit machines. Something to be noted that is hard to grasp, is that America has performed at least one hundred shows for fifty years straight!
Their music video for this song was one of the first ones I remember watching on MTV as a little kid. This song was heavily run on the radio stations back in the day.
With my utmost respect, please allow me to pay Asia a compliment, as I'm certain I am not alone in my opinion; There are women who are Cute, some are Pretty, some are Beautiful (actually ALL are beautiful in their own way), there are some who are a combination of two of them, then there are those who are what I refer to as the Trifecta: Beautiful, Pretty and Cute well, Asia is a solid Trifecta with, if I may be so bold, an added Alluring and Sexy. Combined with her positive, confident yet humble disposition, obvious intelligence, humility, thoughtfulness, enthusiasm, playfulness, wonderful sense of humor, and I am just scratching the surface (I am sure) I could go on & on. OMYGOSH, I'm fanboying... lol. now I am ABSOLUTELY sure I'm one of many guilty of that. Thanks BJ & Asia for yet another excellent reaction video.
America is just a wonderful world of smooth harmonies. Their songs always make me want to float away. So many great songs to love from them -"Ventura Highway" is my favourite. But they are all fantastic!
ASIA'S LOVING HER SOME AMERICAAAAAA BJ!!!😊 SO THEIR HUGE HITS WERE : A HORSE WITH NO NAME & SISTER GOLDEN HAIR YOU GUYS!😊 OTHERS: VENTURA HIGHWAY, TIN MAN, LONELY PEOPLE, THERE YA GO!
So excited for this. I'm commenting before I watch. LOL. This was my personal introduction to the group America. They have SO many good songs. This one will always have to be my favorite though. One of the first 45's I ever bought.
I was a Jr or Sr in high school when this was released. It was my introduction to America and still my favorite song by them. Good uptempo vibe, beautiful harmonies, rhyming verses.
I just KNEW you LOVE AMERICA (the group AND the country 😁😊👍😎) !!! It was so awesome to so BOTH of you swaying and bopping to the music. Asia, BJ is RIGHT ... you CAN do magic !!! That is 1 smart man you got there 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Russ Ballard, who founded the 70’s rock band Argent, wrote this song. He was a songwriter and producer as well, his production and arranging are on this track.
I always liked America, it's Great for Acoustic Guitar. After I'd jam with my first Band I got in after 7 Months on Guitar, I'd get away from it all and Jam on Neil Young; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Eagles, Jim Croce, America, Charley Pride & Hank Williams. I loved Country, Folk, Gospel and even Blue Grass. Few Realize that The Band America is a British Band. I liked playing "Horse with no Name, Ventura Highway, I need You, Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair, Lonely People, Daisy Jane & Sand Man." The Verse Chords to this tune are Emin - Bmin - C - D, The Bridge Chords are Cma7 Bmin7. E7 Amin7. Bmin7 C D And if I wanted to, I could never be Free, I never believed it was True, But now it's so clear to me. Janet Jackson Sampled "Ventura Highway" for her Tune "Someone to Call my Lover." You can do Magic" is Similar to Redbones "Witch Queen of New Orleans & I put a Spell on You." I have Americas Greatest Hits on Cassette. I'd, Dubb them onto 90min Tapes to preserve the Original Tapes. Thanks Asia & Bj. This is a Classic tune. I love playing America tunes on an Acoustic Guitar.
I have always loved this band. Saw them in concert in 1978. It was awesome. If you get the chance ck out Eva Cassidy - Bridge over troubled water and Over the rainbow. She was unbelievable.
There's a scene in the movie Under the Cherry Moon where Prince puts the look in question on a woman he wants. As I remember, he gets her in the end. So to speak.
these guys and Steve Miller Band. both remind me of a cool breeze on a hot summer day. Next to the river...with some good friends a hibachi and good times. Marshal Tucker Band fills out the trio. solid 3 hours of good chill tunes.
I have at least three of their albums and I like almost all kinds of music. There isn't one song on any of these albums that I would skip. Love them all. They were all a hit with me. Thank you.
These guys evoke so nostalgia for me of my youth it is hard sometimes to listen to them without real sadness overcoming me. I think some of those who lived this era understand what I am trying to say. There is just something about their music that does this for me.
Ok got to see america when in 81 at the Queen Mary it was them three dog night Rick Springfield, Poco, and the beach boys headlined lol how bout that for a concert. Peace ✌️
He was hypnotized by her femane way's like love at first sight.like everything she does makes him go all mushy inside (real love) such a beautiful feeling to have.👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🥝🇳🇿
In 1984 I met a girl in high-school who changed my life. In 1985 we were married. Had kids, a home, a dream of a lifetime. She's been dead 21 yrs now. I see her in our grandkids all the time. This f*cks me up every time.
Romantic without the need to be ‘crass’. I guess that is what romance actually is…. It sure is not ‘crass’….it is such a shame that these days it is expected that music and intentions of music (and people?) are so ‘low’, negative, and selfish. I am so glad that music of my era was respectful. It is so strange that our music was a lot more respectful but yet, we keep hearing how ‘politically correct’ people are now and how we were’t’….I am pretty sure we accepted each other more than is typical now! One caveat here…..we didn’t know that there were more than 2 ‘sexes’! People didn’t ‘come out’ to let us know! I am sure that there will be a way to twist my innocent comment into a ‘politically incorrect one’….but it seems no one can say anything at all these days that won’t insult someone! People are super delicate now…no backbone at all…scary when everything said by anyone can be seen as insulting by some while being supportive of others! Sorry for the little rant…it is no reflection on you and your terrific channel….just my observation on how sadly things have changed since the wonderful 80’s when it was ok to just be ‘you’.
Another stellar hit from a stellar group that gave us great songs like HORSE WITH NO NAME, VENTURA HIGHWAY and TIN MAN.
Among others…

No matter what tune, it’s smooth and calm
Thank you lovely choice 🌸☺️✌️

Great song and reaction. This trio known as America met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London. Sandman is another great track. Peace
They have a great catalog. Live shows were dope too.
Thank you. Cool vibe in this band. Some more greats by them: "Tin Man" "Ventura Highway", Sister Golden Hair, Daisy Jane. Much love to both always.
Thanks for listening
They were one of the headliners on a 70's cruise I went on. They rocked! Best band there!
I was 14 and listening to my transistor radio on my bed, jamming out listening to the music and their HORSE WITH NO NAME song, came on and I have been a fan ever since!!! great , laid back, 70s group. I saw them twice in concert. Great Band. Gerry Beckley took a picture of me and my twin. He collects pics of twins. We got a picture of us with them.
A great classic. Saw America live a couple years ago...sounded great.
With my utmost respect, please allow me to pay Asia a compliment, as I'm certain I am not alone in my opinion;

💙💙💙 America's 🎵🎶, classic 70's.
I only got to see them once in concert in all places Pordenone, Italy, while I was stationed at Aviano Air Force Base. It was a great concert.
