This video is so freaking spot on. I agree with liiiterally everything you've said. I'm one of the ambivalent people who isnt a big disney fan and then got put off by the art style of it all. I had 0 desire to ever try this game but weirdly talking about the downsides and watching you run around has made me consider it, just to give it a shot haha. but paying for the game and then the p2w aspect is a little ick! seriously great vid though!! i appreciate how you broke everything down💚💚
Thank you so much! That's exactly where I was/am too. To be honest, it's something that I'm not sure I would've played through again if it weren't for wanting to film it, mostly because I'm just not patient enough for the real-time gameplay. I'm curious to see where they go with it from here though, so we'll see how/if it improves! I'm so glad you liked the video! 💚

Ardenight I think this is a great review I would love to see you review other cozy type games like palia and other ones like it. Its a new genre for me and I have been looking for some nice laid back games to play but I don't have a switch so more pc type games help!!! Please do more of these!!

Thank you for your video & review! ❤ Not only is your review very honest and straight forward, but the footage captured looks to be the most accurate for how DDV performs on the Switch (I assume this is played on the Switch but correct me if I'm wrong). I have read so many mixed reviews about the Switch performance in particular. When I look at your ACNH footage, I can see the quality of the game and it makes me want to play more ACNH again. When I look at the DDV footage it's like this game has a lack of polish or heavy compression - basically it looks like compromises were made to get it to run on the Switch. If it was already F2P I'd probably download it and yet as I type this there are pre-orders for physical copies of DDV for $59.99 CAD (except on the Switch where it's just a code in a box...with a couple posters). 🙃
Thank you so much! 💚 The footage is from Steam deck, but having played it a lot on the Switch I'd say it's relatively similar, at least in my experience. (If I had to pick I'd say it looks better on Steam deck than on Switch. Just a little cleaner and smoother.) The Switch performance is definitely tricky. I've had it crash and stutter a lot, especially in decorating mode, so you really have to save often. (To be fair, though, the last time I played it on Switch was over 6-ish months ago, so they may have fixed some things.) But I absolutely agree, it doesn't look quite as polished on Switch. And wait, it's just a code in a box for switch??? SERIOUSLY??

I love Disney & have been considering purchasing. This was a very well put together review thanks for the info! Also was wondering, when you said you played it all the way through what did you mean by that? I was a little confused by that part bc I thought the game never really ends since it’s like things to be unlocked & new characters are being added
Thank you so much! By all the way though I just meant that I'd played through all of the story and quests that'd been released up until that point. You're absolutely right, the game never really ends, and new characters and stuff have been released since I made the video!

I appreciate your honesty about this game. I've been on the fence about it for awhile and was going to wait for it to go into launch when it was going to launch as free2play but after the developers announced that it's not going to launch as free2play afterall i think i will give this game a try. I have xbox gamepass so I can play the game without having to buy it. I really like the artstyle of the game and I like cozy games, I'm just not a huge die-hard Disney fan.
That's so cool that it's on gamepass!!! Absolutely give it a try, then, especially if you really like the art style. I'm not a huge die-hard Disney fan either, and it didn't really have a negative impact on my enjoyment of the game. I think I say this in the video too, but I think if you do love Disney then it's a really great game, and it does make playing it better, but even if you don't love Disney it can still hold up fairly well.
@ardenight I've been playing for about a week now and I'm loving it so far! My biggest complaint is that I seemed to have run out of story quests, and opening up the forgotten lands hasn't opened up any new quests at all which I found to be very disappointing. Other then that, I'm having a great time with the game 👌
@@alphatax2000 I'm so glad you're loving it!!! Have you gone into the pumpkin house yet? There're some character/story quests that should open up with the forgotten lands, but if I remember correctly some of them only unlock higher up on the character friendship levels, so for me at least I know it took a while.
@@ardenight No, I haven't tried that yet. All the characters I've unlocked I have lv 10 friendship

I just started playing this, it was on sale and I purchased it around last week or so, it’s ok. I’m not constantly playing it every day and as soon as the game I’m really waiting for (Fashion Dreamer) I’ll probably stop playing it or very rarely play it.

I like how in Fortnite and Fallguys anyone can play for free. If you want to buy cosmetics you can, but it's never required and it doesn't make you a better player.

I am ambivalent to Disney as well, but I like cozy games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, and I understand your thing with visuals of a game, I personally don't really like pixel graphics wich is why it took me a long time to even try Stardew (the AC or Dreamlight Valley art styles are more my thing). I think the pricing and stuff is from when they wanted to make the game free to play, but then they decided to keep it as a game you have to pay for, but with the p2w aspects, and it does feel like the company just trying to bleed their fans dry of their money, but that's Disney for you, I guess...
I am thinking about buying it, but not sure wich version. This game is ridiculously pricey. And watching other people play it just makes me want to play it more currently, lol.

I spent $50 for the ultimate edition (which is $70 now 😱) when it first when on sale for the switch and I’ve never turned it on once. I’ve never even opened it. I’m not a Disney adult by any means, also pretty ambivalent towards it, and really really wasn’t into the art style, but wanted a good chill cozy game. I knew it would be pay to win and micro transactions as soon as I saw Disneys name on it, but thought that it wouldn’t bother me so long as I managed my expectations going in. I just killed my desire to play it completely and I’m bummed because I already gave them my money lol. I want to love it, I do. But I just don’t think I will. I’m going to try. I’m gonna give it a fair shake. I paid $50 and have like 30k moonstones and a pet Fox or something so by god I’m gonna use them lol. Thanks for the honest review, it’s really appreciated.
I'm in a pretty similar boat right now too. I want to love it so bad, and I did like it for a while, but at least for right now I just want to get my money's worth out of it lol. So you're not alone!
The shop is completely broken and keeps showing the same furniture, which really hinders the only interesting part of the game after you get bored of the repetitive gameplay (decorating). I'm not paying a dime to get more moonstones; when I run out, I run out. I agree with you, that the fact that it's all Disney makes it less appealing to me, not more. Especially since they push characters from modern movies that nobody asked for, for the sake of Disney marketing.
What I mean to say is, ACNH is vastly superior, even though the villagers are basically lifeless.
Exactly! It being Disney-related made me way more hesitant to play the game in the first place. I'm so sorry your shop is broken! You're right, that would really kind of ruin the game for me too.
I’m wondering if my 9 year old would like this game. She played animal crossing at a friends house is this a bit similar or totally difrent? I know nothing about games 😅
Hi! So overall they are similar in that they're both in the "cozy games" genre, and they both generally involve bringing characters to the "town" that you're decorating. If she loves Disney, then she'll probably love it! It and animal crossing are structurally pretty similar, except DDV has more story-oriented tasks to complete (which she may like if she enjoyed collecting resources/fishing/bug catching in ACNH). I don't know how helpful this is, but if you have any questions let me know!

So you don’t need to pay to progress in the game? They’re just cosmetic items?
Yes! There is a paid DLC coming out in a few weeks, but when it comes to the moonstone shop and stuff, those are just cosmetic items.
question - is this an open world or exploration game ?
It's more exploration-focused. As the story progresses you unlock more areas.

This game is so grindy! I assumed that a Disney game would be made for kids but with how long it takes to get anything done, I could never see a kid playing this. It takes forever to get quests done and the game is super buggy. I've gotten soft locked multiple times and had to force quit the game. Also, for how buggy and grindy the base game is, the DLCs are absolutely NOT worth $30 and I refuse to buy them. Disney needs to fix the base game before adding DLCs that are way more expensive than they should be.
Wait you saw this on Steam? That's so cool! But yeah, the game is super grindy, and I've had to force quit a few times too. I haven't played the DLC yet, and I haven't played the game overall in a few months, but I'm definitely interested to see if the gameplay has smoothed out a bit recently since they've been adding stuff.
"i really love being able to grab something and put it down exactly where i want it" except you cant, because there's no such thing as the move cheat or noclipping while you build allowing you to overlap objects. In fact the build mode is so limiting. Like, ive seen better build modes in roblox.

That's a totally valid take. I think with this style you either love it or hate it. And you're right, the smooth, very rounded look of stuff is really reminiscent of mobile games.

@@perpendicularmouse Now that you mention it, I definitely see it, so it's not just you. Honestly thank you for pointing out the mobile comparison, I've been trying to pinpoint what about the animation style seems off to me and I think that may be it.
What animations? Lmao, the pay-to-get objects have no function other than aesthetic and all these Disney characters have a handful of shitty animations and voice lines they cycle through. Also either it's glitched or they straight up never made a whole bunch of cutscenes for the quests in the game.
