Hey Brent, how effective is Sport Wash in regards to newer generation NV? Appreciate your efforts here. God bless
Any similar FTX type training in Texas?
I so wanna do this
You are awesome. instead of griping about civilians wearing kit and training, you’re training them for free
Brent’s a true patriot!
The founding generation would be proud of him!
Because he isn't a dumb Fudd. He actually believes in regular civilians being ready and able to fight. That's how the founding fathers were
When a war has been going on for long enough, its the civilians that become the army
This is the most squared away guy Ive ever seen.
He knows his stuff when it comes to infantry
Appreciate it brother.
Agreed.
I have an agm gen 3 wp 14 and it's been a solid unit with lots of hours during the 15 months I've had it. It has a few blems and it's not gated but for $1,500 there's nothing even close to it. I've used it a lot getting to and from hunting stands in western new york and it's pretty thick woods. Kind of like Mt. Fuji if you trained there near the suicide forest. 1,000% on wearing eye pro in the woods with nods. You will in fact poke your eye out if you do it long enough without eye pro. Best optic with nods: eotech on a fucking riser and a quality 3x hands down. Man i think I'm gonna throw my nods on and take the dog out hahahaha. semper fi 🇺🇸
Learning how to be a professional operator one video at the time.
Lol
It's called infantrys guide for a reason
I know you're joking here, but I do want to point out to folks that I do these videos as a primer for guys. These videos will never substitute actual practical application. For guys not currently serving as Infantryman, I highly encourage them to look into participating in formal training such as a One Shepherd training semester or courses through S&S training solutions. Both are great institutions and teach the right way.
@@Brent0331 im currently watching your videos so i could prepare myself for joining airborne in my country. Thanks for your lessons man. Appreciate it.
@Scott Thanks brother.
Easily the best video on UA-cam about modern night-fighting!
Not just in military subject matter but also in original video footage and gear. Great work as always!
Thanks brother.
Outstanding information. People think NVGs give you god like powers at night and forget fieldcraft is still very nessasary
100% brother.
They didn't forget , they got complacent for fighting low tech insurgents
They actually do give you god-like powers especially if the adversary doesn't have them. But if you don't actually train with them most people are better off with a flashlight. And a flashlight is a lot cheaper. Even a surefire lol
Some takeaways I had from my first FoF nighttime patrol in the woods:
1. Woods are very loud places to walk. This video was correct about everything thing taking twice as long at night. Everytime our TL tried to speed us up, noise discipline dropped. Go slow!
2. NVGs have a awful time finding enemies in dense foliage and undergrowth. I would not want to go on a night time patrol without thermal capabilities. Thermal optics are life savers when it comes to spotting enemy positions in a dense forest!
3. Be aware of ambient light!! I understand that dual tube NVGs are gucci, but 14s give you the ability to see what is actually going on light-wise.
4. The dbal d2 will get you kilt in da streetz. Story time: a guy (without any nvgs or thermals (was playing a "average joe")) on the op-for was laying in tall grass. Guy on our team (with a dbal d2) thinks he knows where op-for guy is and lights up the grass with his laser and massive illuminator to try to secure the elimination. He misjudged the actual position laterally. The op-for guy with no nvgs was able to clearly see the red glow from the d2's LED illuminator and immediately secured the kill on NVG dude. I know that all the D2 videos on UA-cam say something along the lines of "the red glow isnt that bad/that noticeable", but it is VERY noticeable! A guy with good levels of training, nice gucci gear, and nightvision got smoked by a guy with far less training and nothing but a plate carried, baseball cap, and a standard ar15 because of it.
Good to know. Was debating the I2 and D2 and think I’ll stay away from the LED illuminator tech
Excellent video and as you can see I preferred mounting my 14s on my rifle for patrolling or ambush in the woods/farmlands of south Baghdad. For SKT missions in the city I mounted them on my helmet. Walking on uneven terrain with NODs is hilarious and a pain in the ass. The amount of guys that fall down can be funny but not on a combat patrol. I had/have excellent night sight naturally so while patrolling I’d raise my weapon to take a look and scan at every short and long halt. This limited my clumsy movement and allowed my other senses to be heightened. As a great of a tool and advantage NODs can give you they also can make units reliant on “tech” and that never worked for me. My men knew how to operate old school and use the tech we had at our disposal. I learned quite a few things from the Vietnam vets and I passed them on. Hopefully my men did the same. If we end up doing the right thing and oppose our oppressive government we won’t have the tech advantage, learn to do without.
Thanks for sharing brother. I have seen first hand multiple times where guys get too dependent on their technology. Its not just limited to NVGs/Thermals, but things like land nav with the reliance on GPS and dependent on UAVs and other related assets. Guys need to be well rounded though, I've been on the receiving end acting as OPFOR w/out NVG capabilities against a BLUFOR that was fully equipped. It was bad...
@@Brent0331 1000% agree.
I welcome the day selective availability comes back to gps and people actually have to bust out a compass and map. I fucking love land navigation though. And I love nods too. We didn't get much access to them during my time in the corps. I was 0811 and we got moonbeams instead lmao. Our gun truck drivers had them. And all the sncos and O-1s and up did too lol because they really had important stuff to do.... Semper rah, gents... Brent, do a video on driving with nods. I almost killed my entire gun crew doing that once without a single enemy shot being fired...
Everytime you post something like this there's always ONE thing I had never considered, or I had forgot about. Super useful
Awesome, glad to hear!
Nice Video Brother! I Used a lot of your Tipps and Tricks in my basic Training and got a medal for exemplary fulfillment... thanks you for everything!💪
Awesome, glad it helped!
Crazy I just got my first pvs14 and bump helmet!
Nice
Class is in session! Good stuff as always bro, keep'em coming
Appreciate it brother, see you in the fall!
There’s only 2 kinds of soldiers walking around at night in combat, …those setting in an ambush and those about to walk into an ambush.
And those that must reach the 24 hours mcdonalds before they get too hungry
All info, no BS. Love it.
Thanks
Excellent as always my brother.
Thanks brother!
thank you for Keeping It So Simple.... for us private sector mouthbreathers.
dont forget that walking around with an IR beam bouncing around can potentially damage you or your buddy's expensive nvg if the light shines in the lense too long
great refresher. People don't realize that these skills are perishable and need to be reinforced frequently
As always, outstanding content. This video is needed now more than ever. Thanks for the shout out. Look forward to training together again soon.
Likewise brother, see you in the fall!
Then there's the technique of looking about 15 degrees to one side of the object you are observing. This directs the ambient light to an area of your eye to a place where there are more rods than cones. Cones are for color vision, whereas rods are for differentiating light intensity. If you develop this technique, you will be surprised at how well you can see in times of limited light availability.
Thanks will have to try that.
You make the Corp proud with every video Brent. Love your channel and its great to see it grow. Keep up the good work.
I've learned more about night Ops in this video than any one else has taught me.
For sure I won't be completely loss when I go through training. This video game me 1 step up (or several).
Appreciate it brother.
Great stuff again, must master the basics first to be an effective infantryman
100%
GySgt Brent Downing, USMC: This Prior Service Combat Support Marine and Combat Service Support Soldier ( 1987-1998) , Thanks You for Your Naval Service as a Marine Corps Infantryman and Staff Non Commissioned Officer, and, I personally Thank You for these Videos that teach, from a predominantly Marine Corps perspective, on Uniform, Equipment, Weapons And Tactics. This particular one (1) on Night Vision Goggles ( NVGs) and fighting at 🌃, is very important,in that, Camouflage, Cover and Concealment, Dispersion and Intervals in Formation during either a Reconnaissance or a Combat Patrol , are the Fundamentals. I AM definitely keeping and rewatching this Video on My Personal Playlist, as I own a Ops Core Helmet Mounted NVG Package. Semper Fidelis and This We'll Defend, Brother. RODRIGUEZ FROM TUCSON, OUT!!🇺🇸🦅🗽🌌
Good video as always brother stay safe out there
Thanks brother, you too.
I'm writing a book that has a night operation. This was very helpful.
Found this video in my suggested feed. Subscribed directly. Now I'll be binge watching all your videos. Compulsary military service was removed where I'm from, I'm 40 now and regret not going to the army. I have a constant craving in my gut to learn operational tactics. Even in the civilian world, this knowledge can save your life.
Thank you.
Love this video. These are a lot of basic night fighting concepts I haven’t even thought of in quite a while. Thanks for keeping us sharp!
If you can fight night then you can fight anything
Love watching these to bring back memories
Great video! Could you maybe do a video of night combat without NVG for us poor civilians without NVGs?
Edit: Nvm, maybe a video on how to co suct proper recon?
LOLZ if u dont gots NODs u sholdnt be runnin any recon or ops at nite in a hostil ennvronment a moar bester vidya for poors woold be makeing a sniper hide or bulding a bunkre if ur in feild or if ur in city bulding a proper urban hide an dont go out at nite with no NODs
There will be more stuff in the future. Infantryman's Guide videos are my favorite videos to make.
Another excellent & well informed production. Much appreciated. Thank you Sir! 👍🇺🇸
Thanks for watching.
@@Brent0331 thanks for some tips man that’s awesome, I will say that I’ve always had my goggles fog up though with the eye cups and they always fall off, I keep a pair for when I’m stationary though. Also with duals my current act in black DTNVS setup with a g69 Wilcox mount is 22.5 oz and articulate so you have the best of both worlds in terms of mono vs duals. A pvs-14 with milspec helmet shroud, arm and rhino mount is 20 oz give or take an ounce
This is best night manoeuvres vid ive seen
Awesome as always!
Thanks so much!
Excellent content as always, thank you Brent!
Excellent content as always Brent, keep up the great work.
Awesome video as usual Brent, keep doing your thing brother!
Thank you for another resourceful video.
So I feel old because we only had PVS-7s when I was in the Corps, and they were few & far between. But on the other hand, so much of what you covered in first half of the video was what I learned back in those days. Noise & light discipline, and dummy-cording your gear are still sound concepts.
Ha, I remember the days brother! I remember when my EDL consisted of my M16A2 with a bayonet! In my machine gun team of 3 guys, we were lucky if one of us had a pair of 7 Bravo's.
Thanks again for another quality video!! Keep 'em comin', Sir!!!
More to come!
Love your stuff!
INFANTRYMAN'S GUIDE is the best!
Any time I open your channel I learned something new I was first generation night vision
Nice can't wait for the equipment reviews
Incredibly valuable information
Love you Brent, as good as anyone on UA-cam
Thanks man.
Outstanding.
Excellent video! really useful information,, thanks!
Great content as always Brent. Very useful for my country shady future.
Thank you answered many of my questions thanks again
Awesome video. As usual.
This is info from an actual infantryman! Hooah! This man knows why thr sky is blue, and he knows what makes the grass grow!!!
Because God loves the infantry, and blood! Blood! Bright red blood!
Excellent Post, Thank You for Sharing Brent!
Thanks
New training video! Awesome. Thanks for sharing this info. I like the clear and precise way you explain them, excellent style.
Appreciate it brother.
Man how i love those instruction videos! Brent, you are the best! I´d like to see a video about escape & evasion in the future. Salute from Germany!
Thanks brother, there will be more stuff to come.
Thank you for the good explanation. Excellence survives.
Thanks
Fantastic video, sir. Thank you for the share.
Now I can use my dual 14’s thank you Brent!
Outstanding Brother! I use my dual gen 3 pvs14 setup to ride my atv at night. Great for retaining my skills and just plain fun! Wish I had land where I could ride and shoot too. Maybe later. Anyway, great video, and look forward to more. From Green Country Oklahoma.
Nice
Another outstanding video Brent, Thanks
Thanks
Great stuff!
Very informative as always
Great job.

Thanks for all the great informational videos and the wise recommendation for training towards the end! Great training courses can cut the learning curve of any desired skill way down. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate it brother.
By far the best UA-cam channel I’ve ever seen
Appreciate it brother.
Thank you sir!
Bad ass video! Any one can show off cool guy stuff and tout there opinion, but no one knows or talks about proper employment of the tools at hand in the end.
Thanks
Such quality content.
Very well done
Another quality video 👍
Thanks
Masterfully done
Thanks
This is a very well explained ,detailed video.. Love it! I Strongly believe it is just as important to learn and practice night Operations.
Thanks
Solid video 🤙
Thank you for such awesome content. Always on point!

@@Brent0331 no thank you. You don't have to share this level of expertise with the masses but you do and it's extremely valuable. All the best to you and yours.

Amazing video. Great information and very entertaining.

Subscribed and thumbed up.
Excellent info and wisdom share. Great job!🎩☯️♠️
Echo Victor (Excellent Video) !!!
Appreciate it.
Great quick guide with alot of small over looked details peeps often forget. So good in fact, I'd recommend this even to aspiring recon peeps! You'd be surprised how many recon peeps forget the basics ones they are past that point. Great work you made here with this video. Keep it up! Cheers!!!
Awesome brother, thanks for watching.
@@Brent0331 No, thank you for putting the time and effort into videos like this!
Amazing video!
Thanks
Ayyy I saw Will S. with Gutter Fighting Secrets in one of the clips haha, good stuff! These guide videos are just top notch brother, thanks for sharing them with us and look forward to more!
Ha yup! He's actually in a few of the clips in this.
@@Brent0331 Yeah I saw that hahaha, great dude, been working with him on the GFS website and material. I'll have to get out to One Shepherd at some point too. Good stuff brother!
Great video.
Thanks
Great content, Brent!
Thanks
Awesome video Brent. I'd love to see some videos that go in depth on tactical casualty combat care, and tactical communications. Maybe even some more looks at combat formations.
Thanks brother
Excellent 👍
Thanks
Awesome information and well presented
Thanks
Awesome information and lesson learned too❤️🙏🙌
Thanks
Great intro video on the subject. Eyepro being a big thing that is often overlooked. I haven't done 1 Shepherd, but I did have the opportunity to train with some of their cadre in a class doing night exercises without nods and I can say for sure that branches are a real hazard and reduce your effectiveness if you have to worry about getting poked in the eye. Thanks for the work that you do.
For sure, hope you join us at a 1S semester soon. Thanks for watching.
I don't know how many miles of NC's woods I humped through in complete darkness. I'm still amazed that I didn't lose an eye or break an ankle. This was well before the eye pro days, and nods were few and far between.
great vid!
Great video
Thanks
Hi Brent. Thank you for that informative and interesting video. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
You should do a video on physical fitness for a infantrymen Matt wenning has really interesting stuff he trained the airborne and reduced injury rates. Would be cool if you did a podcast with him
Good stuff
