The other day I saw a comment that said "shopping doesn't always mean buying" and that helped me so much. I really like going to stores and seeing all the things, but I started to view it like window shopping! Nice to look at, but if I dont absolutely need it i won't get it.
Yes!! I love going to look! Sometimes I'll pick up an item and then put it back, because while I like the item, someone else will appreciate and love it more than I do.
I got a lot more chill about shopping (or collecting in genereal), when I realised, that I don't need to bring home everything, I thought was beautiful. I still can find things beautiful, enjoy them, yet don't own them. That's why I never pick flowers, even if I have plenty in my garden. Everyone shoul enjoy them, from the neighbours to all the insects.
I saw a japanese vlogger driving with the train to a store, buying nothing and after leaving she told us how inspired she was by all the items and how successful this trip was. It was kind of mind blowing for me. Successful shopping doesn't necessarily mean that you have to buy something, but to become happy and inspired. If you're going to an art gallery, you also (usually) went out happy without buying a picture.

Honestly, as bad as it sounds, my room catching on fire was probably one of the best things to happen to me. It made me get rid of things i didn't need and realize that i bought too much. Now i only buy things that i really need. I dont have nearly as many clothes or items as i did before and im better off because of it.
100%, it’s crazy to see massive thrift hauls, and sometimes people are just getting stuff for a specific video or trend, regardless if they truly like it
It’s called window shopping to us. Go to the mall, browse stuff but don’t buy anything. Ironically I go to the mall without money so the urge to buy wouldn’t be there. I browse stuff and think “once I have money, I’ll buy that” until I have the money and rethink if I really want that item or just a spur of the moment. I don’t use or carry credit card either to avoid unnecessary purchases.
It’s cool to see what they have, especially if I have someone to walk with. You can get a feel for what kinds of things they like and why do you can plan a deliberate purchase for them later. You can also see what’s still there next time or what sold fast to get a sense of what other shoppers might grab before you in case the sold out item might be something you need to shop for later.
I often think: just because I like it, doesn't mean I need to have it. In the past, I would buy things just because they looked pretty, but know I try to decide first whether I would actually wear/use the item. Most of the time it's a no, but I still appreciate the beauty of the item!
I love this! I already have too much stuff but I love thrifting and miss it. Going to thrift just for the experience rather than the purchase sounds great.
My bed dresser, bookshelf, nightstands are antiques so I think they’re 100 hand. I prefer antique furniture over the new furniture. They are making nowadays antiques. Just hold up better.
Agree with everything said ! Ok, now i have to say that this is the second time ive seen the clip of the 3 little ceramic cactuses and I absolutely love them and wish i could find them in a thrift store.
I just bought a set brand new at Ikea but I passed it up for a couple visits before I committed to them. They are nestled in some plants and I love them! I do this passing up for a few visits to see how much I want or need something before I buy it new.
I love your videos. Going to thrift stores is amazing, I save so much money on good quality stuff! I also gave a super cute wedding gift with a thrifted scarf and picnic basket, with some local wine and horseradish, with some extra cash in there for whatever goodies the newlyweds wanted or needed. 😊
I just love your channel so much I hope everyone sees it. Can’t stand another video of people filling their entire home/replacing perfectly good items with cheap plastic decor from Target, Amazon, etc. Such a good message!
Its fun to thriftshop without even buying anything. People need to get out of the house, between being home and work, we seek a third place and for me its the thriftshops. Everybody has such good vibes there and I love to find objects I have never seen before, however I realized that its as fun to just look around, maybe buy one item but taking a picture of a cool antique thing can do as much as buying it. I love the experience, but I do not need any more clothes or decor items (for now ;) )
Man the trick of leaving things behind is to love what you already have at home. I love love love my mugs and even though i'd love to get more fun shaped ones, the ones i've got are already so much fun especially since i painted and fired a few of them myself. And when in a store, i just remind myself of the love i have for the things i already have
love too that she can go back and look at the videos and probably 99% of the time say eh i didn’t need that or it wasn’t as cute as i thought 5 months later.. really great work! keep it up!
I love ALL the things!!! I’m a semi reformed shopping addict. Pretty things make me feel better. So my solution is to buy used things. I know I can’t let consumerism go, so 2nd hand is my friend. I give myself a limit. I’m only allowed to spend $20. I also give things away when family & friends come over.
You, my lady are doing sustainability the right way and ty! So many cleaning and organizing vlogs that keep telling people to buy cheap and repurpose etc ...and comments are raving about how brilliant it is etc ...and I'm like you have 2mil followers ...and you choose... the wrong message! So kudos lady!! ❤❤❤
In the middle east we have a blend of both. When it comes to religious activities and official work/appointments we are very very strict with time. We pray our five prayrs in time, we fast and break fast in time, we go to work on time and many people go before the appointment's time in and hour or 30 minutes to be ready. But when it comes to scoial events its pretty much polyphonic. A party at 6? Guests are expected at 7 or 8. A funeral at 6? Attendees are expected at 7 or 8. A family gathering? You either come early to help or come late to hang out. Going out at 3? One comes on 3, one comes on 4, once comes on 5:30.
I''m glad you touched on this point; I'm not a fan of haul vids in general, but specifically in thrift shops, when it becomes a flipping items for profit scenario. It's one thing to take some terrible, outdated clothing and re-make it into something fashionable to resell, or if it's kitchy decor, but I get really toasted when it's something that is essentially a need, like winter coats and shoes. Leave the scuffed Nike's for someone who actually needs them as an alternative to being barefoot in winter and stick to garage sales and online marketplaces for your reselling. Not meaning to hate on anyone who shops thrift ('cause so do I) and obviously not everyone shopping there is super poor, but I personally try to be really mindful of who might need items like that more than I need a discount and leave it behind, where hopefully it will be purchased by someone whom would otherwise be unable to afford those items at full price.
This is great. Window shopping and browsing is fun. When I was a kid my grandparents used to take me to this big flea market that had an upstairs and downstairs. We usually didn't buy anything, it was just a fun outing. My Nanny was actually a hoarder though.. Growing up the living room was full of old stuff that she never used. We never actually sat in there. The furniture was covered with cloth as was the old television set. It was like she just closed it off one day and then it ended up as a storage room. We always spent time in the area with a fireplace off the kitchen/dining area that she called "The Den". Part of that was probably because they never updated the house with heating and cooling. There was 1 air conditioner installed into the wall of the kitchen, and the 1 fireplace. There were gas heaters in the bathroom and living room, but they really never used them or the air conditioner. I can remember a handful of times when the bathroom heater was turned on or the attic fan or AC. Even in the middle of Arkansas summer she didn't want to turn on the AC and only did so for company. Her clothes were everywhere cause she had so many. They were all neatly hung and stuff, but they were in every closet, her bed, hanging from the shower curtain rod, hanging in the RV, like everywhere. She hated getting rid of anything, especially if someone gave it to her. There were a few vintage appliances that she'd never used that I ended up with when she passed away. Including an electric skillet, and a combination slow cooker/fryer/electric cooking pot. Those 2 things and a microwave saved me when I lived in a place that didn't have an oven.
@leenanorms said in one of her overconsumption videos that she just like knowing something exists. Like, you don't need to be the one to own it, you can just be happy it's out there making someone else happy.
I think also seeing stuff that looks like your stuff can remind you that you have things you could use and don't. It brings novelty to whtbu already have
No bc that’s why i trust you!!! Bc you address the psychological issue of overconsumption and then, when you do buy stuff, it’s second hand and thoughtfully purchased!!!
Alot of those big hauls are resellers or someone who needs a new wardrobe for a legit reason. I've started realizing how much clothing I have and have been moving some out but it's hard for me to get rid of stuff

Yes yes yes! I’ve gotten pretty good at saying, “Ok this is cool but do I really need it? Will I really wear it?” And usually I decide to leave it for someone else who might love it more 😊
i keep a list on my phone of items i want to thrift. or a general idea of an item/theme. that way when i go in, i know what im looking for and dont buy anything that will just collect dust or never be worn.

In Spanish there's a word for that, "vitrinear" it's a verb that's form from the word "vitrina" showcase, the windows at stores
Yes!! I love going to look! Sometimes I'll pick up an item and then put it back, because while I like the item, someone else will appreciate and love it more than I do.
@@cataferI was about to say that haha, I used to love going to vitrinear with my mom every saturday when I was a teenager

I'd love to know who that vlogger is, if you remember and don't mind telling me 😊
@MiscellaneousMatilda it was @naminokurashi 😊
I love this! So often ill see people have huge thrifting hauls only to declutter half the stuff a few months later.
I love this!! Majority of Hoarders are thrifters. Just cause it's cheap doesn't mean you need it. If it doesn't serve a purpose, you don't need it.
It's sad going to the goodwill outlets and seeing old people with literal trash in their carts to buy priced at $1 per lb
Curious how you know that info/statistic
🙌🏻
You really are a breath of fresh air

And that sucks so much because someone who could genuinely use those items misses out

I loooove your page and it inspires me to go to goodwill and ALSO never feel like I have to leave with something
I love the anti consumption hauls!! Helping me change my habits for the better
I love to live my life through these videos. I am now a minimalist due to age and mobility issues but i can still enjoy seeing others great deals!
I grew up in a small town and perfected the art of window shopping early. It's fun to just see new stuff - like those penguins, lol, so cool!
Good message 👍
I love this message!! Thank you for being transparent!

I've found your videos of "things to buy secondhand" sooo informative !! So many things that i would have never thought i could thrift! Thank you
I love your videos. Going to thrift stores is amazing, I save so much money on good quality stuff!
I also gave a super cute wedding gift with a thrifted scarf and picnic basket, with some local wine and horseradish, with some extra cash in there for whatever goodies the newlyweds wanted or needed. 😊
You are helping me so much. I also tell myself that someone else needs this item more than me.
I love people like LGR who have a series for thrifting. He only shows a “haul” after months and its items with a purpose for him.
Yes! It's why I love thrift vlogs because I get to see all this fun stuff even if the vlogger ends up not buying anything
I just love your channel so much I hope everyone sees it. Can’t stand another video of people filling their entire home/replacing perfectly good items with cheap plastic decor from Target, Amazon, etc. Such a good message!

love the shopping with the eyes concept. it still scratches the itch and my bank account and my home don’t feel bad after
Preach peach! 🍑 love it
Window Shopping is something I did all the time as a teenager. I would see items and think about how it would be like to have it.
LOOOOOVE your channel :) thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@leenanorms said in one of her overconsumption videos that she just like knowing something exists. Like, you don't need to be the one to own it, you can just be happy it's out there making someone else happy.
Love this ❤
Thank you! Such a great video idea!
i love leaving thrift stores with nothing! it makes me feel like i can make good informed decisions about my purchases 💜
I really wanna thrift clothes but I have no idea where to find plus sizes 😢
I love it ❤
I think also seeing stuff that looks like your stuff can remind you that you have things you could use and don't. It brings novelty to whtbu already have
Love your videos and I agreen
Woooow. New mindset ❤ thank you!
Really good choices for purchase. Good Job!
Love this!! Its not saving money if your still purchasing items that you don't need.
That’s why you go with a friend! Point out all the cool things you find so you can share the moment instead of buying the item!
Some of my friends get nice old gifts from thrift stores. 😊
It's window shopping! ❤
YESSSS GIRLIE your all about buying with ✨intentions✨ and not just a huge haul that you prob don’t even want to
No bc that’s why i trust you!!! Bc you address the psychological issue of overconsumption and then, when you do buy stuff, it’s second hand and thoughtfully purchased!!!
i love this!
That's absolutely true, although u might find cute things, you should always stop and think if you really need it even if they are second hands
I wish my thrift stores looked like yours!
Any time I leave behind something cool at a thrift store, I try to think "someone with the perfect Aesthetic for this will take it home".
Alot of those big hauls are resellers or someone who needs a new wardrobe for a legit reason. I've started realizing how much clothing I have and have been moving some out but it's hard for me to get rid of stuff
Ugh, I just bought a vase for a gift. I really wish I had went to the thrift store. Thanks for reminding me for next time.
Very wise.
Social media has really normalized overconsumption and it hurts to see it. Seeing all kinds of replies that "having Stanley's in multiple colours brings me joy" is just mind-blowing
People need to learn the true joys of window shopping 😂 I put on music on my headphones and go shopping for exercise. It’s like a tactile museum and very stimulating
I thrift and make my own stuff because im tired of everyone having the same, cheap shit.
Sometimes taking a video or a picture is all you need to be fulfilled!
a lot of the time when shopping i take pics of stuff and i can be indecisive so i take pics bc i like it and if i still really want it after i’ll try to get it again
I literally have that long green dish you showed, and I got it at a thrift store 🎉
I have that exact same green candy dish!! It was $2 and i keep my make-up brushes in it! I love thrift shopping but definitely end up with more stuff than i can use and im now broke and hungry! Now unless i can use it for more than one thing or have a purpose for it right now not in the 'future'( that never comes) as much as i love that item i pass! Plus i dont go to the big ones goodwill v.v i go to smaller ones they have way more reasonable prices and some will even deliver for a small fee!
Yes yes yes! I’ve gotten pretty good at saying, “Ok this is cool but do I really need it? Will I really wear it?” And usually I decide to leave it for someone else who might love it more 😊
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You gave a swan getting,, lol 😂👍🏻
Yes!!!
i keep a list on my phone of items i want to thrift. or a general idea of an item/theme. that way when i go in, i know what im looking for and dont buy anything that will just collect dust or never be worn.
I've really tried to work on appreciating the cute thing I see in the store, but leave it there. Window shopping is wonderful!
Yes yes yes
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
U r a gem
Window shopping! Used to do it all the time with my mum, honestly it’s just as fun and I don’t purchase stuff I don’t need
Yes, spending money, even small amounts add up. Plus, clutter is clutter
I love walking around an entire store and challenging myself to not get anything, usually i skip the cart and can only bring home whatever i can carry on hand.
I ❤️ SUSTAINABILITY
I worked at a thrift store when I was in high school and it was way cheaper then so I definitely ended up with a spending problem because "it's so cheap" yes but you don't need it.
Agree 🎉
Yeay!!
Love this. I'm annoyed at seeing all the thrift hauls lately. Yes it's better than buying new but why do "influencers" have to thrift for every single holiday or season or occasion? Like haven't they kept anything from the time before?!? We do gag gifts as part of Christmas but last Christmas we ended up taking photos of the items instead of buying them and re-donating them.
Can I ask what city/region you are in? Amazing finds in those thrift videos. 😍😍
My sister is a monochronic person. I am a polyphonic person. You can guess how bad it gets when we have to gout in a specific hour..
It's not overconsuption, is overproduction
I agree huge hauls are disgusting. Unless you’re moving in for the first time to an empty house. Or lost everything from a disaster. I don’t understand. I’m trying to refrain from buying. Taking pictures have helped me buy less stuff, most of the time i dont need to own it i just want a chance to show it to people
My friends say I'm so good a5 not purchasing things... I have everything I need and I'm happy worh what I have. I've had too much and it just makes cleaning harder 😅
Youre so great. Ive been ZW for a while, I wont ans cant save the world, but I feel like I'm nicer to God's earth
I avoid discount stores like TJ Maxx and I only go to antique and thrift stores and I usually do not buy anything and I pretend they are a museum, I can look but I can’t buy. 😂
love you
I love shopping and i love thrifting, but i rarely actually buy anything. A lot of my friends don't quite understand why even when i do find stuff i like (i'm quite picky because of sensory issues and mu own very specific person taste) i often don't buy it. The biggest "thrift haul" i've had recently was a bodysuit, and dvd, and a tanktop. Yes there were lots of cute trinkets and candles and funny shirts, but i don't need them so why should i use my money and space on it
When we stop "window" shopping? Like... I love just seeing what's out there both physically and digitally. I'm just looking. So why did we stop?
