What about in a 2 seater sports car? Can a 5 year old sit in the passenger side?

Absolutely, the child just needs booster seat, by California law if the car is 2 seater the child can sit in passenger side as long as they have booster seat. You can even put a child in passenger side in 5 seat car (assuming all 3 seats in the back are taken by other children under 8 years of age)
