When I was a kid, Republicans were Gerald Ford, Howard Baker, and Alan Simpson. My family would not vote for Reagan, and now they are all Democrats.

I have many friends at college that are republican and they don't like the current party at all. Some have even turned to libertarianism completely due to how radical the GOP is. Most if not the vast majority of young conservatives just don't care or accept things like gay marriage, abortion, and immigration, and they really don't care for the favoritism the GOP has with major companies and banks. The GOP just isn't the party it used to be. Too be fair, the Democrats have a lot to be desired too.

+Paul Hanson Most of the GOP candidates who are considered "extreme" -aka Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and the like- by the Democrats are the ones with Libertarian values. Those of us Republicans who are irritated with the GOP are irritated with the establishment. I know UA-cam comments don't really matter, and I'm basically talking into the wind here, but... AJ, I like watching your stuff. I know you have a leftish bias, but knowing it means I can filter that and enjoy the solid information content. I never expect anyone to report objectively, and you give me one aspect of the world, and then I fill in the rest with other media. But this video, no, it has to stop. This was not reporting. This was a pre-emptive victory dance on the perceived (even if plausible) crash of the GOP. There was SO much you could go into, invluding more about the pre-Obama and especially pre-9/11 GOP philosophies, and the evolving party roster (Wigs, etc.), but you flat out went with "look at those idiots, don't they just look stupid?!" That's not journalism. That's cheap commentary. Please avoid the temptation to become another blanket mouthpiece of your bias. You were doing so well.
I say it because I care, and because I believe in you. Even if nobody reads it.
PS: The GOP lunacy might well be triggered by A) GWB's failure to use Kissingerish 'real-politik' to dominate policy, and B) the impact made by Sarah Palin on political debate, i.e. the evidence that crazy gets attention. Just saying...
+Henrik Larsen I never see leftist exposing themselves to alternative perspectives that are unlike their own, but I always see those in the center or right exposing themselves to content they may not agree with and comment.
I'm not progressive or liberal in the slightest, but I give leftists--even radical feminists--a shot by reading and watching their content (I remain unconvinced). The point here is that it's good to know not all viewers of biased channels are biased themselves. The act of questioning, examining, and formulating an opinion is a sign someone exercises freedom of will and thought, especially in a time where there is none to be found.
+Henrik Larsen To be fair to AJ, they did not make the GOP take any of the stances they have taken, nor have they forced the GOP to support bigots and shills. Republicans have done that themselves. I think the real issue here is that so many people give individuals like Trump and Cruz the attention they desire. Major news networks cover the Republicans as though they are actually interested in making cross-aisle agreements, when the party expresses on their own that they have no intention of working with any one else in Congress. The media often acts as though the field is fair and representative when the majority of these politicians literally cast votes against their own constituents' interests.
It is about time that we all start talking about these issues as they really are. The GOP is digging itself a grave because they create imagined versions of their heroes to fit their issues. Almost all of the references current GOP leaders make to Ronald Reagan are literally the opposite of the positions he held (Rubio, I'm lookin at you). Instead of confronting the reality that the republican party is actively becoming more bigoted and recalcitrant than ever, GOP political leaders make up facts (Fiorina anyone?) and ignore scientific evidence.
It is absolutely journalism to call out the idiocy of our political leaders-- particularly those that aspire to control this nation. Ignoring these troubling trends is what is actually killing journalism here in the US.

I think it is more like Trump and Trump squared. Cruz is way worse than Trump.
I'm all for fiscal conservatism, but to achieve that you cut out extra cups of coffee, less nights out, -maybe- less alcohol, put on a sweater instead of turning on the heater... you don't cut back on hours at work! How do they expect to pay off our credit cards if we don't take overtime pay or holiday bonus??

Im a black kid from Africa living in taxes, with some liberal principles and mostly conservative ideals. I hope one day i can save this party and bring some compromise back to politics. This video seems awfully partisan, condescending and plain rude. Although Il agree on one thing, the GOP's autopsy report after the 2012 defeat did state it needs to broaden its base to reach more minorities. Rubio could do just that, he does well against both Dem frontrunners (that is if the GOP can be sane enough to nominate Rubio). Although broadening the republican base, and modernizing does not mean giving up on key issues like being pro life, a strong national defense and fiscal conservatism. (because if you get rid of those, there's nothing to be "republican" about, we'd have a one party dictatorship) On immigration though, I don't care even if they take Regan's view on that one. The same with gay marriage, even Laura Bush supports it, today's conservatives need to move on, plus its not a priority issue this cycle.
Plus lets adress the double standard here. The Dems have gone just as far left (socialism), as the GOP has gone far right (nationalism), I'd like to see AJ+ doing a video on whether the dems should compromise on some of their positions on economic issues and try to be centrists. But oh no, that would hurt their base. Shame they don't extend the same courtesy with the republicans. "Progressives" would defend islam by saying "all muslims aren't terrorists", but never have the balls to say "not all republicans are radicals".
