I think the new one is a better version, you can say that they did the sculptor wrong by changing it however, the sculptor failed on his part by not getting the sculp right. It was a lazy job on his part, sure sculpting is not an easy task but you have a big market to satisfy. Banpresto likely foresaw that if they pushed through with the original design and release it many people will not purchase the figure.
Could be they didn't like the sculpt as well but I just think if they are going to do similar things in the future, just don't even have the competition in its current format anymore.
I think this figure look great. My only complaint is that it needs a little more detail like some more steam effects swirling around his body. I also would of liked his right kong hand to be a lot bigger like he is charging it up for a huge attack.
OMG another dwarf gear 4 luffy. i mean they made smsp deku around 12 to 13 inches standing straight up and made this luffy just 22cm or 9 inches?? it really doesnt make sense. the only way we can get a good size gear 4 luffy is to get those 3rd party ubnlicense resins.
Even in the anime series of One piece, G4 luffy height is not that big that's why even POP (Portrait of Pirates) has only 10 - 10.5 inches for G4 luffy
nope. i think g4 luffy is bigger than normal or gear 2 luffy. dont get me wrong but pop line is 1/8 scale while smsp is close to 1/5 ot 1/5.5 scale. thats a profound difference.
This luffy had no place under the SMSP line in the first place, being a character model that's supposed to be huge. The only one that doesn't make sense so far across all smsp series.

the problem is they made deku, in this same smsp line, around 32 cm if standing straight up and cant make a g4 luffy around 32 cm too?? instead they dwarfed him as usual 22 cm come on man. cant even imagine displaying hin with the other smsp pieces. deku is a kid come on. they could have switched sculptors hoping the sizes would switch also ridiculous!!

The body proportions are not really accurate in this figure. The ichiban kuji kong gun is so much better imo

But honestly the original sculpt is kinda weird and the head part also.
