- A playthrough of SNK's 1991 NES game, Ikari III: The Rescue.
It's odd, that for this being EASILY the best looking, sounding, and playing game of the Ikari Warriors trilogy on the NES, it's by far the most overlooked and ignored of the series. Maybe people just gave up after the first two (*glares* at Micronics), but this one, developed internally by SNK, is an absolute success. The graphics are top notch, with animated cutscenes, lots of sprites on-screen without too much slowdown or flicker for the most part, and a solid set of controls make this a complete 180 degree turnaround from the first two games. It's also far more forgiving, with a life bar and lots of 1ups. It's not easy by any means, but this one feels far more fair and skill-based than the others.
Oh, and being SNK developed, that digital drum sample sounds suspiciously like the one used in the phenomenal soundtrack for Crystalis, doesn't it? Coincidence? I doubt it.

It's a shame that this game doesn't get more attention. It's the only port in the NES series developed by SNK itself, and it's the only one that's legitimately a GOOD game. Go figure!
This and the arcade version are in SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
There's also Guerilla War by SNK for the NES. I think both games are quite similar. Both really good.
This was my favorite NES game growing up. I must have beat it everyday for a month.
It's Time to go back and buy it
Damn this guy is in a warzone just punching and doing sweet jump kicks!!! He's def a Crude Dude with a Attitude!
Steven Seagal 👸🤣🥢
It's like they took the mechanics of P.O.W. and gave it an overhead view , that's awesome
This game is a blend of two SNK NES titles: Guerrilla War and P.O.W, very good game... I'LL ENJOY IT!
O my nostalgia. I beat this game so many times as a kid
I think the reason why this one was overlooked is due to the 3rd Ikari Wariiors arcade game not being as well-regarded as the 1st two games. But yeah, this is easily the best NES Ikari Warriors!
I wouldn't consider it the best
I would, the others were developed by Micronics and it shows. There's no reason to play those when Guerilla War exists.
This game looks like a top down overhead version of P.O.W., almost a complete departure from the 1st Ikari game on nes.
A very good change, imo :)
Like P.O.W. and the Guerilla War combined
I remember hours of this when I was 4 or 5. The framerate dips, act v boss tank that shoots "candy", pressing a trillion buttons after u die and ur friend is still alive and u somehow resurrect from the dead. This is such a good game
gratitude by the kid at the end. nice!
Fun fact: this game features the very first appearance of Hidern who would later show up in various King of Fighters games.
I love collecting Hi-Q Spica and Supervision Nintendo NES games that were distributed in Singapore and Malaysia because most have lost the game name sticker and I never know what I'm about to play. I picked up a mystery Spica game and the title screen says, "First Blood Part 3" with the Ikari Warriors III in Japanese behind it.
I searched everywhere to find out what the game actually was and after using Google Lens so many times, I recognized the Ikari. The game even has Rambo for one player and Clark for two players. This game isn't easy, especially that tank and with one hit deaths with it but your video has helped me to get slightly better at playing it!
11:03 Why enemies throw dead bodies of their comrades at you.
This installment must have been made by the same team at SNK who made Crystalis, because the way the music is played sounds similar, some of the graphics look alike, and it has some of the same sound effects too.
Tuxy's Magical Jukebox same with Guerrilla War
This game is a masterpiece.
This is even better than the arcade version.
The looks exactly like if POW had top down levels
Act 4 was my favorite, cant believe i was 6 years old trying to play this.
I hate the first two, but I really like this one. For many reasons but the main one being that it feels genuinely fun to play.
Along with Metal Slug 3, this is another rare occasion where the 3rd installment of SNK game is considered to be the best. Usually it's the opposite.
my first ever game.. =)
Nice Game.
0:15 Is that Heidern??
Yep. Before his playable debut in KOF '94, he first showed up in this game as the commanding officer for Paul and Vince (a.k.a. Ralf Jones and Clark Steel)
P.O.W. 3D.
One game you could perhaps give a shot is Hammerin' Harry 2 - I believe it came out only in Japan though, so subs would be welcome. It's not as good as HH 1 though. If you want a blatant SMB 3 rip-off, Magical Taruruuto-kun 1 and 2 should be right up your alley. They're really text-heavy for some reason. :D
Oh no kidding? I thought I'd already done hammerin Harry 2. I look into that, and into those others
NintendoComplete You actually did the GB version (which I think may be my favourite HH game). HH 2 (or Daiku no Gen San 2) only came out in Japan, so perhaps that's why you omitted it. I believe you have to beat it twice for the true ending, it's been a while since I played it. Anyhow, great job on these videos. :)
+Mariusz Bosy Ah that would make sense. I'll definitely do the second nes one then. I think I'll translate that one if there aren't any English patched copies out there. Thanks for the heads up!
Guile in the super contra 🙄
was there a way to determine which goon could take a few punches while others were one punched and down? Or was it all random?
Doesn't the music in this Ikari game sound a lot like the music in Crystalis and doesn't this game have the exact same sound effects from Crystalis?
yep 👰😁❤️
This is better then the arcade version. The arcade version is a terrible game.
I've been looking for this game like one month, finally i got the name, imma download it.
Sounds like Crystalis
EXACTLY i mean both done by SNK so makes sense. both great games
Esse jogo e foda zerei ele no nes
Given that the guy is wearing blue, I can conclude he's Clark... But the looks match Ralf's. Go figure...
Guile in the super contra
Look how easy bare knuckle conflict might be unleashed! By the way the hero is young Solid Snake!
young Solid Snake in a SNK game? 🙄
@@medeabrumildea8098 Either he's the former/future P.O.W. protagonist.
Cómo saco los quintos ahí ? :V
como se vera en una consola next gen?
It's like ballet almost
Are these Ralph and Clark?
Yep.
My main problem with it is it's way too easy. Otherwise, everything in the description is true
This is the only game about a large army without firearms. Must be the most pacifist army ever, only their defense is their ballerina kicks and keep coming at the main character. So Ikari Warriors are unarmed Rambo version.
I'll never understand why Nintendo used to mess up with games turning all them in sort of platform..

Una porquería de juego sin armas a puro golpe solo con jefes usas arma
In the armies of the future, the only weapons are FISTS and FEET.
29:15 fear the impassible barrier of perpetual helicopter kicks
