Don't give up hope for new music! I saw them 3 times...all amazing shows! They put every ounce of energy into their performances. I talked to them at Mid point music festival in Cincinnati and requested "Thinking of a dream I had" before they went on stage...I was in the front row with my wife...they pointed us out and said "This one goes out to this lovely couple." I'll never forget it as long as I live.
i never tire of listening to the Rat ever since 2004, It was the first I heard of them..... The official video is the best, just really into their instruments, no showmanship!
Blue as Your Blood is so well done. All of it is a testament to this band's ability to play live with more passion in Matt Barrick's pinky finger than most other bands put together.
hightimesbruce I respect your opinion but You & Me is their masterpiece. Their later two albums Lisbon and Heaven were way more melow and less amazing, in my humble opinion. I actually think Heaven is their least great album. But if you like their more slow and melow songs, then I can can see why you'd like Heaven a lot. But to me, You & Me is one of the best albums of the 21st century.
Great post for a fantastic band. I was lucky enough to have seen them four times in concert before their hiatus. Each time at the end of their shows I always had the feeling of wanting to relive the experience as soon as possible. The last time I saw them was the Saturday following Thanksgiving (US) 2013 and was aware of their impending break from playing as a full band. I have enjoyed the solo releases from 3/5ths of the band's members but hope for the day of their return to playing, if not making, music together. In the meantime, I will enjoy viewing videos such as this one. A fantastic performance, for sure.
I bought Everyone who pretended to like me is gone and is this it on the same day, in 2002. Never heard either band before that impulse buy. Those are still my 2 favorite CDs
Still watch this a few times per year. This is so unbelievably good. Their best live recording on youtube. I was supposed to see the Walkmen that year, but couldn't go. Still absolutely gutted by their break-up, now I might never have the chance to see them live. Seen Hamilton twice though, which was great, but it misses the fiery passion and energy of the Walkmen...
Still play this set at my desk regularly, just f'n amazing. For me the crescendo leading up to then the payoff of "Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone" still give me chills. Got to see them once At SXSW and definitely regretted not seeing them more. I've enjoyed HL's solo career as well but not the same.

I also wanted to add that I really enjoy their rendition of 138th Street that they played in this concert. I like the waltz"ier" feel they employ here. As corny as it sounds, it would be ideal for dancing under a moon lit sky...on the beach, perhaps.
I wish he had gotten a vocal coach to teach him how to sing properly. He always sounds like he's straining to hit every note. He's more heart than technique.

+MEJ I think "sing" is a slight overstatement. I like this band but singing involves the ability to hit some right notes nd at least give the semblance of holding together a melody. This guy can do neither. He makes some noises but it sure as fuck aint singing

So I say this as someone who used to call The National as their favorite band, but why the hell weren't The Walkman as big as The National are ( or like at least half as popular)? It's fucking random and arbitrary in my opinion. The Walkman are every bit as good ( and if were talking latest outputs, better).

One of the best voices of my generation, this band have meant so much to me.
So true, this band has the passion lacking in music of the past 30 years.
They are amazing! I wish they'd grace us with new music.
I miss The Walkmen
As do I...as do I
sehablablahblah ?
me too. what an amazing band
After all the years i still miss them
@@eddyhertsenberg Here's hoping they come back someday ...
R.I.P. The Walkmen :( never got a chance to see them live, and watching this makes me regret it even more.
Seen them once. Grown man holding back tears the whole show. What a pleasure it was. Trying not to rub it in, but it was just great to witness.

They are back!!
I saw them once at the ULU in 2008. After the show we walked out to find it snowing outside, it was September. What a magical night!
I swear as soon as this band gets back together I'm there. I don't care where, I 'm there.
ME TOOO
Hopes are high

See you there my friend, aslong as it isn't in Australia. Thats way to far.

They've always been a consistent band, but "Heaven" is their crowning moment.
+hightimesbruce yes, their finest hour.
+hightimesbruce agreed! Love how raw and natural Heaven comes across. This is a great setlist though, some really wonderful back catalogue picks.

The vocals, the drums, guitar, keyboards...each one of them seem to be waiting their turn to slice your soul, to crush it.
one of the top 5 bands this century.

AMAZING
The drummer really gets a workout.
This is fantastic.. It definitely shows the intensity they have at a live show, I'll miss these guys. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks for sharing this I've got it saved . I'm ashamed I've only just been turned on to this awesome band It's going on repeat
Wow, what a show! I wish I'd been there for that one. Perfect set list.

Increíble banda, tremenda voz y excelente ejecución de los instrumentistas, música que llega hasta los huesos!!!
my vocal chords would combust into flames if i tried to sing "In The New Year" every night.
I saw him perform this weekend, it’s crazy, I actually think he sings much better now, he was really wailing it the whole night it was awesome!!

I honestly don't know how Hamilton can sing after Angela Surf City. It comes early too...
+MEJ I think "sing" is a slight overstatement. I like this band but singing involves the ability to hit some right notes nd at least give the semblance of holding together a melody. This guy can do neither. He makes some noises but it sure as fuck aint singing
