Hard Things About Being a Self-Employed Music Therapist | Cons of the Music Therapy Profession

Today, I want to talk about some of the hard things about being a self-employed music therapist. I LOVE my job, and to me, the pros outweigh the cons. However, I think it's important to be transparent about all the pros and cons that come with this profession so you can make informed decisions about whether this is right for you.

self-empolyed MT here, i resonated with all that you had to say, especially the introverted portion. it can be hard to be in a front-facing profession as a solo entity when one's inclination is to be more reserved. I co-own my private practice with another MT-BC, and while it helps to have the support, we don't often see each other as our schedules are opposite in order to cover more work. best of luck with your own self-employment! you are definitely not alone in your feelings!

How many years did you work as a MT-BC before you felt comfortable to start a private practice?

I worked with other private practices for about two years or so! I was actively working on building my private practice for the last year of working for someone else though.
