Thank you for showing this I’m learning a lot about your job and how much one trailer can transform and haul many different things and also you work for a company but you are responsible for so much
I loaded and unloaded tower crane parts on semi’s for 30yrs and some truckers were to lazy to put protectors under their chains. I gave a warning the first time and if they didn’t on their 2nd load I charged them and it was on the bill of landing “Protectors Must Be Used” they would say I never saw it. I glad to see you used protectors in the appropriate places. That was a professional chain job you did on that loader, I’ve seen chain and strap jobs that I don’t know how the load didn’t fall off the trailer. Great job just found your channel and subscribed.
Glad to have you along! I try to use protectors. Especially with newer machines. This company has a motto that the customer get to put the first scratch on it!
That is a hellava job loading and tying that loader down, and balancing it to be legal with permits. Great job and thanks for showing us what it takes to move a machine like that.
As a heavy hauler myself with a Pitts tri axle run and hauled some heavy stuff. Thanks for showing me how the get the jeep off the beam trailer.. always thought you use a excavator. Be safe driver!!
You can use pretty much any machine to get the jeep off. And when really in a pinch I’ve even just chained it to the gooseneck and pulled the whole thing off myself with the truck but for that to work you need to know ahead of time and load it accordingly.
That is a short truck compared to what some states allow. A quad in Georgia is worth 80,000 but,.. ,depending on spacing, Florida may give you much less. I ran 13 and 19 axle traffic. We hauled mostly drill rigs and 600# plus excavators. We had several trailers, some low boys for transformers, construction equipment, and large but not that large stuff. My favourite was a 100 ton Siebert with a 10 foot deck, although we had 11 axle Lidells, and Fontaines, The Siebert was a tank, you could load a 100 ton object and not worry about weight distribution. I was in a 367 Pete, the only one Pete has that has a 22,500 front axle. I had a 4:11 final drive ratio but could drop into 5:66 which pulls like a grizzly bear, but I got old..Im dropping this note from a beach in Thailand where Thai twins are giving me massages, one does head, shoulders, face, and back. and the other does feet, legs, and butt. The lobster dumplings are on the way. There is life after trucks.
I still got a few years to go before my retirement but it sounds like you’re making the best of it 👍 This is a good sized company with a couple hundred trailers to choose from so they (usually lol) have just the right trailer for the job. We use the smallest configuration we can get away with depending on the states we are operating in. The the same load in the deep south we would’ve used a trailer with a booster in stead of the quad. Enjoy your time off ✌️

You have a slipomatic in that truck? A new Petercar too! You made it sound like its not a big deal to move that loader back, most don’t have a damn clue what’s involved to move it back. Good video, my friend, I’m glad my days of hauling that stuff are behind me, I just load that kind of things now, and screw with the drivers a little…….. ok a lot! Maybe we’ll meet someday!
Man that's a lot of work for one person to load such a big piece of equipment!!!!.I CAN SEE 👀 you got help from the fork lift but the rest of the loading you should have another person!!!.GOOD JOB. 😢😢
Thanks again, Doug, for showing the setup. All of the little tricks make a huge difference in keeping your sanity! I am curious if you get full rating for the chain that goes through the shackle, or if some is knocked off. This is right at the 45 minute mark. Also, thanks for showing the weight, you don't always so I figure you aren't allowed to share.
So the way the machine is loaded it’s hard to show you the chain from the back. I only used a shackle because my hook was too small for the hook point on the machine. This chain goes from the machine down to the trailer and back up to the opposite side of the machine with a binder in the middle. Personally I count it as a full chain. However if you get some DOT officer who wants to go by the book word for word the law states “from the trailer, over the load, to the opposite side of the trailer”. I know this but I would love to hear from an engineer about the difference between trailer to load or load to trailer.
perfect timing, i was just thinking of your channel today hoping for a new video! i was wndering about that jeep, it is short, not much transfer to the tractor
Hello- That was different. In my time all wheel loaders were built in Aurora. Took me a minute to figure which lot you loaded in. I never loaded in that lot. I don't remember that yard man but he was damn good. Didn't even bring the L/S fork down onto the neck frame. The fenders kept you from picking the dolly from underneath on the air bag mount? We had the same problem at Keen. They were to short also. But I was surprised to see how much shim you installed at the back of the beam. With my 2007 Trail King with the same deck length as yours was, my closed 4 never needed more than 1/4 inch shim hauling anything and still got a tighter weight difference between the two groups. Have you been happy with your trans. and the freight that you haul? As always, a great video. Thanks for recording it. Brought back some memories. Have a good day.
Sadly I loaded one of the last ones to come out of Aurora. The big loaders are all Decatur now. We only need half as much shim in the newer trailers but these old ones flex a lot. I’m not a fan of the auto trans but it seems to be the way the world is going.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I just saw a typo on my part. I meant to say that I never needed more than a 1/4 inch. Bit if we had to insert a deck extension into any trailer, we were shimming fools. I just never put an extension into mine. Hope you found a good spot to lay over for the weekend. Have a good day.
Every trailer is different so when you switch trailers every week like I do shimming is an educated guessing game. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you gotta start over especially when it comes to extensions.
I try to run at minimum height just high enough that they don’t touch when hitting bumps on the highway. When you get on uneven ground such as parking lots or entrance ways it is inevitable that they touch a little bit. At slow speed the loader tires turn when they touch.
I’m not a fan of automatics, mostly because I’m a young guy and I find them boring to drive. It takes some getting used to but it seems to work. The biggest difference I found so far is when you’re doing something technical like trying to attach a gooseneck to a trailer. With a clutch you can feel how much pressure you’re putting without spinning a wheel. The first time I hooked a gooseneck with this truck I dug holes lol
Quick question not a trucker, but based upon your trucking experience how have you liked the automated transmissions for heavy haul applications like yours?
It seems that forklift driver has helped with a few of these before.. On another note.. i was one of your rigs headed up my local highway a couple weeks ago, heading a haul truck...
So far this automatic is doing the job alright but I haven’t had the truck long enough to test it in all conditions yet. Personally I prefer a manual but it’s mostly a macho thing. This transmission seems to be able to do the job.
21:17 Man, the trailer is standing almost still. Why is the first axle wheel still spinning? 👀👀 And how can you even move the trailer if there is no air in the brakes?
When we load and unload we block off the brakes to easily push and pull the trailer. After we are done we open the airlines and the brakes function normally.

@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Ahh, yea going into some of them mines it can be real steep. There was one I went to alot out west, a large copper mine but the road you have to take south on 40, very pretty but if your not paying attention going over the edge is 5k+ feet drop... soo yea lol
I would love a 4 axle tractor. Quebec likes to be different and make our lives complicated. They accept 4x3 but not 4x4 so for these 50 ton class loads we use a jeep.

Thanks. I was going to introduce the truck in a different video but this one got posted first. The truck is 6 months old. It had 30,000 km on when I got it. I’m not a fan of the automatic but it seems to be the way the world is going. The only thing I noticed about the automatic is if you are trying to be very easy on the fuel doing something technical like hooking up a gooseneck to a trailer there is less feeling to the automatic. With a clutch you can feel the friction and put just enough pressure without spinning a wheel. The first time I hooked a gooseneck with this truck I dug holes 🤣 They bought 5 of these Peterbilts and they are set up just a little bit heavier with the thought that these trucks will have priority on the bigger loads. You could say I chose more the work this truck will get than the actual truck itself.
Hey, great video. But why don't you use a little bit grease at all the connectors, bolts, eyes, etc? I saw a lot of rust and dust on this Points of your trailer.

About the. third whack on the glad-hand and..... well you know, most of the time I'd have spare aluminum hot and cold and I'd swap them any time I came across cast iron....
🤣🤣🤣 I know you’re joking right!!! It’s actually incredibly well thought out! There are bolt holes in the catwalk so that the exhaust can be removed from the top of the machine and secured for transport to reduce the height.
I gotta admit. I’m a little disgusted that you are in a automatic. Not at you, but the company. Your skills are off the charts. When you’re rolling around at 190,000lbs+ and you’re the one grabbing gears that’s what drew me to these videos! But now, they take a world class driver and put him into an automatic….I feel like I’m going to be sick. It’s INEXCUSABLE.
The bosses have it in their heads that these Allison transmissions are new technology better suited for heavy haul 🤷🏼♂️. We could debate that all night. Personally I would’ve ordered a stick but I’m not the one paying for it.
Sky is the limit copain. C’est un très beau métier avec beaucoup de défi. Plein de options selon ton style de vie et le niveau de complexité tu veux. Bonne chance ✌️
God, I'd quit if I had to go from an 18spd Western Star to some goofy automatic aerodynamic Peterbilt. They trust you with that trailer, but not your own shifter? What a joke new trucks are now...
When setting up the trailer can your do it on your own or is the forklift needed? There’s no Blaster or other lube sprayed on the pilot points or pins,is that intentional not to attract dirt ?
Things like flipping the rear axle can be done using the truck but it is hard on the equipment and there is a good chance for causing damage. I don’t like doing it. It’s much more gentle on the equipment to use a machine. If there is no forklift available we often use the same loader or excavator we are transporting to assemble or disassemble the trailer. Any oil would just build up dirt and eventually make it harder
Thanks for showing all of the preparations needed for loading and securing. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye.
Yeah, not just drive on and drive away! A bit more to it than that

Do u ever come to Texas with a heavy load
Time to time but not often. There is a video I posted a while back on this channel about a drill I picked up in Denton Texas going to Canada.
do u remember the title of the video that u did the trip to Denton Texas
25 day adventure.
It’s an older video from last year
OK thank u
About the. third whack on the glad-hand and..... well you know, most of the time I'd have spare aluminum hot and cold and I'd swap them any time I came across cast iron....
Who in GODS name engineered that exhaust stack on that 88 smack dab in the middle of that catwalk ??????????????????????
🤣🤣🤣 I know you’re joking right!!! It’s actually incredibly well thought out! There are bolt holes in the catwalk so that the exhaust can be removed from the top of the machine and secured for transport to reduce the height.
Time for some 10w30 on those booster pins me thinks or some WD40.
Personally I would’ve ordered a stick but I’m not the one paying for it.
oh no way I saw this load on the road hahahaha small world
The driver probably had his finger up his nose right 🤣🤣🤣
Who pays for the forklift service?
The trucking company pays for the forklift. So we include the cost when we bid on the load. Ultimately in the long run the consumer pays
👍👍👍
ces malade man good job pour vrais ... jfais mon dep live pi sacrament jai frapper un mure en esseyant le simulateur jimagine pas un vrais truck
Sky is the limit copain. C’est un très beau métier avec beaucoup de défi. Plein de options selon ton style de vie et le niveau de complexité tu veux. Bonne chance ✌️
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 THANKS man aprécier ;)
Hey Doug, hope you threw that forklift driver a $20 for all the extra help he gave you 😉

Yes! ⛓⛓
God, I'd quit if I had to go from an 18spd Western Star to some goofy automatic aerodynamic Peterbilt. They trust you with that trailer, but not your own shifter? What a joke new trucks are now...
Lol that’s what I said yet here I am 🤷🏼♂️

@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 thank you 😊
Je me souviens.
A man of your caliber using a hammer on a glad hand?
Why do they call it a 'jeep'?
That’s a good question that I don’t have an answer for 🤷🏼♂️
Now I've got to find out. Research time. @@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
Automatic???? WTF is this?? Heavy Haul is the peak of trucking industry and you’re driving an automatic now??? 😳
Agreed 😔. All I can say about that
It saves 10k a yr in fuel

Sorry friend, I take 2x3x3x2 Trail King beam over your Talbort
Lol don’t be sorry. I pull a different trailer every week. Trail King, Talbert, Aspen, Temisko, Lidell, Fontaine, Manac… I pull them all
Also im Schwerlastbereich seit ihr Amis die totalen Volldeppen , der Radlader wäre bei mir in einer Stunde verladen und abfahrt auf die Baustelle .
