to be fair, it's not that the subs were MADE stronger, but more that the enemy AI sucks. if people in multiplayer just walked through a sprinkler, it'd be pretty OP too, but people are smarter than mindless fishies.
Honestly yeah. It's genuinely making me question why we have to have bad kits in the base game. Like okay yeah, splatana stamper gets mist instead of fizzy because it'd be too powerful otherwise. But why though? What makes that too strong? is it that the Splatana stamper is a good main weapon, or is it that all the other kits suck so much you have to bring down the actually good ones to make it seem level?
Side Order balancing is so different. Reefslider was really good in my runs, but I also found Ultra Stamp and killer whale to be very useful in their own ways.
Side Order is so much easier if you are experienced with roguelikes. I just go "hehe this is like Binding of Isaac" and then steamroll anything in my path

It's amazing how many things there are in Side Order that are just blantantly overpowered, you can feel so powerful if you get the right buffs or use your kit right.
Ok. I have a few things to say. First of all, hii! I saw you at genesis. You signed my backpack. It was really cool to meet you! Second, I wanted to talk about my thoughts on side order subs and specials. I completed it with splattershot with the default kit (splat bomb and zooka). I found that I barely ever used my bombs at all just because they don't do a whole lot of damage and they cost a lot of ink. I experimented with fizzy and found that it was a little bit better because of the reduced ink and trail it leaves, but also you can't throw it at your feet and run as much, so overall I still found it pretty ineffective. So it's good to know that sprinkler works well! I think actually having a sub that stays in one spot and works on its own might actually better since you can just leave it and forget it. It allows you to multitask a bit more, which is good. It would most likely be even better if there's a buff for sub paint or sub damage, but I didn't play with sprinkler, so I wouldn't know. As for specials, I've found that zooka works really well because you can hit multiple long ranged enemies from far away. Like those anglerfish guys and the stinger tower guys. You can kill 3 of them with one special if you aim well. You can also use it to survive if you're being rushed, but it's not as good for that. I think tristrike would also be good for this, but I haven't tried it. The way enemies work in side order really reminds me of salmon run. I play overfishing, so I'm pretty experienced with how that works. So you have your far enemies that are better to be dealt with using your special (or pearl bot), and your close enemies that should be killed using your main as soon as possible. So I kind of try to focus on that when deciding what to do. Which brings me to my next point. Since there's no time limit, I noticed that it's much easier to clear levels if you play defensively. I mostly just focus on surviving over completing the objective and wait for a good opportunity to push rather than going after the objective right away. That's another thing that I learned from salmon run. If you try to be too ambitious with eggs, you'll end up getting rushed and you won't be able to make it back to a safe place. Sometimes it's better to be patient and prioritize survival so you don't die. And since you have forever to complete the floor, I just focus on killing enemies to survive, and when I have a safe opening, I rush the objective, then I escape right before it gets dangerous again, then repeat. And zooka is really helpful for that strategy because I don't have to only rely on wail for long ranged attacks. I used a bunch of special charge up too, so I was able to get zooka every 5 seconds or so, so it worked really well. That helps create an opening, which you would have a much harder time doing without a long range special to deal with those far enemies. Plus that ink refill helps with the close ones too, so it really gives you a huge advantage for a moment. It doesn't last long, but it's enough time to push. As for which color chips I got the most, I went for most of the damage and aoe ones just because it helps with survivability. I also had some slots in ink efficiency, swim speed, and as I mentioned before, special charge up. And a few other things here and there. But I've found that to be very effective because there are some levels where you can't swim, can't use special, subs, pearl bot, or item drops. Damage from your main weapon works all the time though, so it's more consistent. You don't have to rely on anything that might be left up to chance. I also spent most of my prlz on damage for my main weapon, shield recovery and shield slots, extra lives, and vending machine discount. Ok the last thing is off topic, but it's something that I wanted to ask you at genesis that I forgot because I was too nervous. I had this idea awhile ago for a potential new splatoon game. Maybe instead of having 1 sub weapon, we get 2. One for damage and one for utility. That way weapons won't get stuck with sprinkler when they want a bomb, but weapons that want sprinkler also get that instead of a bomb. It also gives more options to every weapon. The downside is that if everyone gets 2 subs, there needs to be a reduction in ink efficiency otherwise there would be too many subs on the field at one time. I think maybe a good way to balance this is either both cost more and there would be gear abilities that can buff the ink efficiency for one or both, and/or there are 2 main only abilities that remove one of your subs in exchange for making the other more efficient. Specifically how this would work is however much ink it costs for the sub that's being removed, that's how much the ink cost is reduced on the one you keep by x0.5 or something like that. So for example if you have subs that cost 75% and 50% and you remove the 50% one, the other sub now costs 50%. But also idk if that's a good way to do it either, because now if you do it the other way around, the 50% sub now costs 12.5%, which is way too little. So it would probably make subs cost more in patches, which I don't like. I think a better way to do it would just be to remove one sub and the other one gets reduced by 25% or something like that. Either that or it reduces it less, but it also adds a buff to your sub in some other way. Realistically this would never happen, but I like to theory craft. If you have time, please let me know what you think! :)
Being able to boop enemies with explosions is also very good, especially with agent 4’s pallet. Basically you can shoot off your trizooka or throw a splat bomb and make some space. I recommend pairing this with mobile special charge because that way you just have to move to charge your special.
man sprinkler is such a lifesaver for that brella kit. i hate the slowness of the brella. good thing the kraken was not it it or else i would have finished it way slower than i did. the roller got the kraken and i hated it. changed it to booyah in the vendo. kraken was not worth it. inkstorm was better for its passiveness and throwability.
Dude I am beginning to want to play brella in side order more just because of the sprinkler and good defense, and being able to make it a stronger undercover is so convinient
I think Sprinkler, Splash Wall and Toxic Mist are mainly useful in Side Order due to the Jelletons’ nature of just, kinda… not avoiding them at all. Only the Panicking ones run away from sub weapons, and no other species does anything about them. There are a lot of chips that are designed to benefit certain subs, such as Hindrance Damage calling out Toxic Mist specifically, or Rush Attack Up for the Curling Bomb. Unfortunately, the only way to make Sprinkler stronger, due to its nature of not being a bomb, is general Ink Damage. Sticky and Poison Ink is definitely helpful for it, though! If they can’t get away from it, they’ll just keep taking shot damage.
