      I have two pairs of ditch lights to add to something. Looking forward to that install.

    Hey, Dave! Just for giggles, those shavings you found under the motor are just chips left over from the sloppy milling job Athearn did, gouging out that trench. Their quality control was iffy, during the time this loco was made. Faster equals cheaper and cheaper equals better--until something breaks...

    What little stuff I can find on SOO Line locos, no nose light, I think you just have an Athearn stock body. Trim your tape that goes around the decoder and motor. That tape will hold in heat. Why splice the gray wire. Run it directly from decoder to motor. Splices are possible faults. Trim back your lighting wires, you did for the power wires, why not the lights. Glad to see you working on detail stuff, handrails.

      I didn't want to attach the grey wire from the decoder directly as it it would be flopping around while I installed everything else. You've seen me right? I'm pretty clumsy, lol.

    I think you set a speed record with the wires, but I don't know how much was editing. You really did well for the first-time handrail fabrication, and they are looking good. Great video and see you Monday, Jersey Bill

    The fangs on the motor clip can also be easily flattened back into the clip. I also put tape on the bottom clip in addition to the chassis "just in case".

      Hehe, I don’t believe in just in case. All or nothing.

    Great video, of course. I love the handrails! I hate to tell you this, but I think Soo Line locos in that paint scheme actually had all white handrails. Black looks pretty good though.

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  Місяць тому +1

      hahaha, yes, Greg has already shown me pictures of the real thing with white hand rails. Oh well. Next time.

      @@ScottRails I should have known. The funny thing is, at the time I was just checking to see if Soo actually had GP35s (they did!) and accidently noticed the handrail color. I say leave them as is. 🙂

    If you have identical locos try using the original as a template for the bends ... put the wire to be bent over the original to get the right places and angles.

    The hand rails are painted white all around the Soo line units there's no red touch-up at the bottom it's all white I have pictures on my Facebook photo albums of some of the two units that I used to go through western Mass so if you need a reference
