- A century-old mansion hidden directly under the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. The Nimitz House, the former home of Admiral Chester Nimitz, is below the eastern span of the Bay Bridge on Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco, California. After World War II, Quarters 1’s most famous occupant moved in: Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Nimitz was appointed to command the Pacific fleet days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. His exploits in the Pacific Theater made him a household name worldwide and helped the United States triumph in what felt like an unwinnable war of attrition on the way to Japan. Mr. Roy brought me here! Let the visual/audio drone adventures begin! 😊
Thank you so much! 😊
Andre, thank you for another delightful and enlightening video. I loved looking at the old mansion and then the modern bridge (I didn’t know the bridge was curved). And Andre, thank you for the prayer of blessing.
I knew you appreciate this one Lorna, thank you for always tuning in.🙏🏽😊🙏🏽
Nice video,love it❣🌷
Thank you Cecile, I appreciate the comments! Thank you for watching 😀
Awesome video but sad to see these historic homes in disrepair.
Thank you sir! I believe they’re being preserved 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I have "flown" all around this house and its neighbors via Google Maps. I find it really sad that such a beautiful and once majestic home with so much history is abandoned and in such disrepair now. There is a ceiling fan on the front porch and the blades are sagging like they have melted in the heat and to me, it's the saddest thing I've ever seen. I saw just a glimpse of it in this video, but it's fully visible when using Google Maps.
Thanks for watching! I think in a future video I’ll see if I can make a walking tour of the area if it’s possible. I’ll check Google maps! Thanks!
Great video, thanks for sharing. My family has a lot of history with what was originally known as Goat Island. Thomas Dowling laid claim to the island. His descendants pressed this claim for generations and the government eventually settled when the Bay Bridge project commenced. This resulted in my Grandfather receiving a payment in Portlaoise, County Laois in Ireland in the mid 1930s. He used this to extend his house which eventually went on to accommodate 14 children. My Dad was the eldest born in 1931. I’ve been hearing stories of Goat Island all my life.
Thanks for watching! I didn’t know it was originally goat island. You learn something everyday! Thank you for the info
