By reading the comments of this and other videos of this turntable, I was not the only one wishing for a 1200G version, a better tonearm or the possibility to add a second one would also have been amazing.
Thanks, Michael. Appreciate you doing a somewhat in depth vid about these decks. I love Technics, and even though I have “better” more expensive turntables, my main deck is my 1200M3D with KAB upgrades for stereo playback and an old wooden based Sansui for a mono deck. I’d love to see you review the different levels of the new Technics decks. Thanks, Michael.
I think the original idea of mounting the power socket at 45° was so you can tidy the power cable away whether you’re using them in either the horizontal or vertical position, as DJs often do.
Be careful. It’s crazy expensive. Ask yourself this first. Do you have THOUSANDS UPON THOUSNADS to blow?? If not don’t do it. I just got into it last month and already spent 8k. And that’s only on 70+ records, a 1200MK5, Wharfdale diamond 12.2 speakers, Darlington labs mp7b phono pre amp, and technics SA-C600 receiver. $$$$$ 🔥
@JD-mm4ub, VİNYL SOUNDS THE BEST. vibrations, the waves on the sound, the clearity, the deepness of the stylus in the groove. but don't pay a fortune. start with 2nd hand/used 2xMKII... technics, and asian Hi-Fi equipment. new or used, doesn't need to be expensive. and even dj series stylus/needles are fantastic soundwise. and your set-up is ready for maximum 4k including the vinyl records.
I would bet anything that the new '1200G sans DJ' will be next to come, but not before sales of the current one start to diminish.. This is how it works.
TECHNICS rocked in the past with the MKII. now TECHNICS is just ripping off its customers. an up to date TECHNICS dj turntable like a 12'GR gotta cost € 1k incl. the stylus. and the MK7 about € 650 or max. € 700. i can't believe, how many people are out of their mind, to accept such price politics. it's just insane. i wish other real famous hi-fi turntable brands from the past would also copy the MKII dj player with an affordable price.
I subscribe to the absolute sound for about 20 years in the 80s and the 90s. Never did I think I would see a product from Technics reviewed in The Absolute Sound. So either Technics has changed, or The Absolute Sound has changed
Starting in 2016, Technics redesigned the SL-1200 series from the ground up. This has led to a resurgence of interest in the product family, which has continued to be developed in the past decade.
@@Jdsofar Who cares if the other colors look "old"? Is this gear for kids or for teens to look cool? Besides, all cheap Chinese gizmos now come exclusively blue lighted. All lights first and formost must be plesant for an eye. For example, an original battery charger for my Canon camera has two fairly large opaque LED lights: orange for "Charge" and green for "Ready". And they look just classy and stylish.
@@IliyaOsnovikov I agree about LED being too strong sometimes although I haven't seem them yet on the new technics turntable so I cant comment on the brightness on them. I just changed the pitch light on my MK5 to a blue LED and it is too bright. SO bright that when I record a video of the turntable you can see a blue dot from the glare on the screen. But I like the color of blue on new devices it looks cool and premium. Baby blue is better. They should just change the shade to baby blue and tone down the brightness. A lot of high end audio brand are going with blue LEDs today. I think the best solution is to allow the customer to choose what colour leds he wants with not unlimited selection but have the option to say choose 1 colour out of 5 colours say green, orange, yellow, red , blue .Its not just Chinese gizmo and bing-bong that come with blue led today even high end brand like audio research and esoteric do.
Very pleasant to look at. But 90% of its technical features are wasted. A LP is Vinyl, other than an isolated tone arm all other insulating components are quite silly. But look cool. Great talking points for nothing gained
All these uppity clowns held their collective noses skyward in disgust anything "DJ Technics" back in the 70's-80's. It was all about Linn, Thorens, and AR. My, my, my, how times have changed. Sadly straight tonearms, no tonearms (linear tracking), fully automatic, and T4P are relegated to the gimmicky museum throw away parts bin never ever ever ever to be uttered in polite company. So ironic.....
Waiting for the 1200G2
By reading the comments of this and other videos of this turntable, I was not the only one wishing for a 1200G version, a better tonearm or the possibility to add a second one would also have been amazing.
Weird pricing policy: in Europe the 1300 is 3k and the 1200g is 4,5k. In the US, 3,2k versus 4,3k.
Still waiting for an updated 1200 G.
Superb turntables from Technics that easily set the benchmark. Rubber band drives seem positively archaic. (He said slightly tongue in cheek).

I desire an upgraded 1200G without the DJ features and further improvements to the tonearm. Not interested in downgrading.
or the possibility to add a 2nd tonearm.
@@BobCoalWaterthey already have that dude. It’s 20k. Look it up

I might have to get back into vinyl.

Oh Technics, instead of giving us a 1200G replacement sans DJ you give us a lower calibre table and add to the confusion.
I would bet anything that the new '1200G sans DJ' will be next to come, but not before sales of the current one start to diminish.. This is how it works.
A 1200G without the dj stuff should be sold cheaper than the 1200G... a death sentence for the G and the future(?) 1200G2.
Pay attention.
He specifically explained why this isn't a G + it's not the same price point.
I would like the G with an upgraded tonearm or the option for one of my choice .
Same tonearm the magnesium as the 1200G has?
Nope, that's the problem, same tonearm as the 1200gr2. They don't want to kill the 1200G.
@@davep.7737 thanks for info,I figured as much
Why the ally arm?????
If they offered this with a wood veneered plinth, they would not be able to keep them in stock
Of course not; termites and all...

@@TheTASmagazine great reply. I will try to keep up in the future.🙂 and I'm happy to know that it is Technics which has changed, and not you guys.
100%; happy to see the Technics coverage; always enjoyed the 1200 series
It would be nice if Technics stopped using blue LEDs. They are quite uneasy on eyes. I definitely prefer red, green, orange or yellow lights.
Ya they are bright they just need to dim them or have blue lights. But blue is the way to go in the future. Those other Colours look old af now

every turntable must be automatic is this automatic?
No every turntable must not be automatic. No radio station ever used an automatic turntable.
