Sorry... I tried to listen, but... I can't. I really tried, 'cause i was curious about why everyone complains about her on-court persona.
What exactly is humble about this person?
She has a shallowness and an arrogance which you can rarely see elsewhere.

Maybe you're prejudging her? A good portion of the interview is about the challenges she's had that have kept her grateful for everything. She admits she may have a chip on her shoulder because she's had to struggle so hard and nothing was handed to her, but that's not really uncommon. What does seem uncommon (and very cool!) is a pro who continues to play on a run-down public court on occasion! (It sounds like she wants to stay humble and remember her roots.)

You should go check out her press room interviews from the AO QF and SF. She seems very down to earth and "real" to me. And she has an inspiring story having recovered from major surgery. Yes, she has a little bit of the valley girl way of speaking, but that's probably just regional. She's from St. Pete, FL, which is an area where you're either going to get a deep south accent or a psuedo-california accent.

Lucian, why and where do you perceive Danielle Collins to be shallow and arrogant? In my opinion she is pleasantly answering fully and openly the questions asked of her. Also, an indication of her humility in the fact that she continues to pursue her education, even she has high world rankings as a professional tennis player. In other words she does not see herself as a tennis prima donna.
You obviously see things differently. I would be interested in how you arrive at your opinions.

@@Lucian1692 She's explained before, and commentators have concurred, that this sort of "pumping yourself up" and vocalizing was just what she was used to from collegiate tennis. She's toned it down since then. She's human after all, folks.
