In my opinion this should have a government rebate associated with it. This is the most environmentally friendly way of keeping these cars on the road. Maybe just a $1000 or £1000 credit would go a long way.

EV that degrade the battery so quickly and rapid-gate so inconvenient for end user due to lack of thermal management is not "most environmentally friendly". Any subsidy should be for SparkEV that has thermal management, 5 mi/kWh at 60 MPH (100 km/hr), 0-60 MPH in 7.2 sec (quicker than any car in price range gas or EV), and 50 kW fast charging all the way to 80% without taper resulting in 20 minutes to 80% even quicker than any Tesla.

You're correct. Here in Norway, Leafs are plenty, but replacing the battery still carries a risk regarding the car's registration. As Nissan is not eager to see their shoddy cars having eternal lives, they wave the safety card and raise doubts that replacement batteries in ZE0 cars are safe...it's infuriating!

£8500 is a lot of money for a battery upgrade especially if you recently purchased a used Leaf for about £8000. Might as well buy a used 2018 or 2019 Leaf.

This is great, but it seems odd to do this whole video without mentioning cost or availability? To clarify I'm not naysaying - I have a 30kw Leaf (with a good battery so far!) and hope to keep it alive as long as feasible for reason of not squandering the environmental cost of building the whole car... so for me it doesn't need to be cheaper than changing to a new car, just not more expensive, and (fingers crossed) I won't need to replace the battery for maybe 5 or more years yet. But still, for those of us following the technology, why not say how much it costs and how easy/difficult it is to get?

This price list is up to date as of today 6/12/2020.
I now have some pricing, as we know what is involved with each job. Prices listed are fitted, inc vat.
1 - 8.8kWh extender, which will add approx 30+ miles of range, costs £5000.
2 - 17.6kWh extender, which will add approx 60+ miles of range, costs £6250.
    3 - Gen 2 24kWh upgrade, dependent on battery availability, from £5500
4 - 30kWh upgrade, dependent on battery availability, from £6000. But we currently have an unknown battery we can offer for £5000
5 - 40kWh upgrade, dependent on battery availability, from £8500.

What happens with the old batteries? Are you able to convert them to home storage somehow? Also, Battery heater? Is it not possible to add this with a view to improve the life of the battery? Just wondering how many years this £8500 upgrade gives the car back before the new battery also degrades. Don’t want to be a negative but my 30kWh Leaf still pushes my buttons

Lots of comments about getting a 2018 40kwh vs replacing the battery.. and it’s a fair call, along with all the new tech. However the environmental difference is huge by upgrading the battery. Also curious about the old leaf, will it be more efficient? In theory it’s lighter and better aerodynamics ?

Good question, many people are not aware just how much power electric car batteries produces, often 10 to 20 times more than you'll use in your home, so a 25kw/h battery even down to just 15kw/h capacity could power a home for several days alone, possibly weeks if used with Solar Panels before needing mains power.

Few reservations with this, do you need to let your insurance company know that the car is now effectively modified? Hence would there be additional costs for insurance, my only other concern would be it would be my luck I'd have an accident after paying £8500 for a new battery and the insurance company would want to give me bottom book for a 5 year old car not taking into account the recent battery expediture - hence massively out of pocket. I really enjoy driving my leaf its a great car.

This is the issue for Joe Bloggs who has no means of dealing with the handling and transport of their Old Battery. Still think the guys are doing a great job but I am not prepared to just give my existing battery away for nothing.

I am sure you will have a lot more customers for your product if this option is given, Regards Keith
