Another reason I hate the idea of string pinsetters. On frame 3, the 2 pin goes around the 7 without touching it, but still falls. The same on the 9th frame. Although it saved you from the 7-10 split, you see the 3 pin clearly goes right around the 10 without hitting it. The only reason the pins fell was because the two strings got wrapped up. A lot of inaccurate scores are going to be showing up soon. I will be very angry if this ever happens at the pro level. I don’t think it ever will, but who knows.
Two observations which I thought were interesting: - Tangles which can't be sorted by the machine must happen frequently enough that they made a graphic for the monitor (3:50) - The attendant uses a hook to grab the pins and reset them (5:00.) Again this suggests it's a frequent occurrence, and I wonder if the hook reduces the risk of liability for the bowling alley, if the customer were to roll a ball while the attendant is untangling. I've never liked this design of pinsetter. It takes away the physical fun of bowling, of watching the pins fly.
1 the error on the screen is a generic error message which cam he used in free fall too and 2 that hook os for doing anything with a pin from behind the machine like pin rotations amd cleaning nit only a tangle
2. No and yes. You get the hook with machines of all kinds, not only strings. You need the hook because the machine is so enclosed that reaching the pin by a hand is just not possible. If you work at a bowling alley, you know that most of the people are dum dums and will do stuff you never imagined were possible. Even the bowler in this video suggested throwing the ball even though the screen was saying otherwise. 3. I agree
I hate these string pinsetters. For one thing, strings can get tangled, and it allows for like no pin action at all which is bad for when you want to pick up splits.
@@fredh.1255 Most string candlepin setters are home-brews, for now. Then again, there's a company making new candlepin pinsetters, so no need really. Duckpin would have to, unless someone reinvents the Sherman.

AMF might not be the best choice in string bowling machines. Brunswick and other companies have some really good ones. In Florida, they held a non sanctioned tournament with both string and conventional machines. The average scores for both were 220.

This is what being too cheap, and too lazy to maintain a proper machine, will get you. Nothing uncommon with these in any discipline using strings (especially 5-pin in Canada).

I’ve bowled on string pins, splits are way easier to make, my friend hit the right side of a 2-8-10 and made it
