I am just impressive to find that this game was available in late '70s... I would think it would only be available at the end of the '80s - or even early '90s. Thank you for sharing!
I just got mine today from a goodwill store COMPLETE WITH BOX, ORIGINAL PAPERWORK AND STILL WORKS!!! loved this game from when I was a kid. I'll never sell it...EVER!!
I just found mine in a box in the garage a few weeks ago and it still works. Inside the same box I also found another Milton Bradley game which I forgot about. Chain reaction . It's a magnetic game and it's challenging. Brings back great memories.
I also got regular “Battleship” from Amazon today, and this is the 2017 Hasbro Gaming edition, and it’s basically the same game, and it’s still the classic “Battleship” we know and love. The red and white pegs are smaller than the original pegs, and these newer pegs fits well with this and the newer game, and the enemy ship pieces are the same, but they added two fighter planes to the game if one of the ships allowed, it will have one of the fighter planes as a replacement. These fighter planes also works with this game.
My younger brother had the talking electronic Battleship from the early 90s. Back in the late 70s, it was probably too expensive to do speech, because there was a chess computer that used the same speech chip as the arcade game Berzerk. A Battleship game was much less expensive than the chess computer. I was curious about this because I saw a Facebook ad for a current electronic Battleship game and thought about a commercial I saw for the one you are showing here.
The Electric one I used had a book. The book have every position one could think of. Each "map" had a code. All you had to do was load the code of the ship config you wanted. It definately cut down on the time.
I remember having trouble understanding how to play Battleship when I was a little kid and frustrating my friends. I used to get mixed up as far as which grid you put your shots on and which grid you put your opponent's shots on. It's obvious to me now, but at 6 years old I couldn't get it.
Wow. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. I landed on this video because I'm looking for a Battleship version of the early 2000s that squirts water when you hit your target.
I just ordered this game from Mercari earlier today, not eBay, and this is the game that I have not been played since I was a kid. A much advanced than the regular “Battleship”. By 1989, Hasbro’s Milton Bradley updated the game with an automated voice feature and called it “Electronic Talking Battleship”, and it has more features than this previous one. This one is from 1977 by Hasbro.
Oh my god! I've just discovered what the sound man used for some of the sound effects of the machine used by Deckard in the movie Blade Runner when he analyses the photographs of the replicants! It was this game when it's turned on!
I still have this game too .. my parents bought it to me and my brother in like .. 1987 maybe .. it still works perfectly, it's a very, very durable and fun game, I play with it from time to time :)
Mine was so full of dust and grime I took it completely apart, washed and reassembled. Still works, remember it was popular with friends as I received for Christmas. 😊 Also have the Fireball pinball and Galicia handhelds
Hi I remember playing this game with my brother in the 70's! We loved it. I've just managed to get one the same from eBay....but the constant beep seems a lot louder than it did when I was a kid. I'm wondering if I can maybe muffle the sound a little by placing something over the little speaker underneath?
I remember this to I had a lot of board games at my old house when I lost everything not to happy about it after mom and dad past away but I'm here as of now I'm writting a book about nasa I'll leave it at that rest in peace mom and dad I will see you again
Hi I have the exact same game it works perfectly too, the only thing is the volume is so loud that it’s unbearable , do you know any way to turn down the volume
For those of you have the newer version of “Battleship” which is the Hasbro Gaming edition, it should work with this game if you have the missing pieces.
You can also use with different codes from the 2012 Hasbro Gaming edition and it does the rest. You can add fighter jet, spy plane, tank, and attack plane from the 2012 edition and it does fit well with this 1979 edition. The 2012 edition is missing the J and 10 in the battlefield grid, but this one has J and 10 on the battlefield board.
To put all of the ships for each player, you have to switch to “Load” mode and input your letters and numbers where the ship is located and hit the Fire button to enter. You can do the same, and after it’s done, the “Whoop” sound was heard which means it’s all set and ready to go. Do the same with the second player, and after all has said and done, it’s ready to play. Switch to “Go” mode, and it’s ready to play. You can call the shots by pressing the buttons and hit the Fire button where it tells the other player a hit or a miss. After you defeat all of the enemy ships, you’ll hear the “whoop” sound three times where any of the player is the winner.
Some have asked for a copy of the code book(1982). Scanned mine tonight. Can download from DropBox link. www.dropbox.com/s/b7j25i1bvvqahgn/Electronic%20Battleship%201982.pdf?dl=0
If I changed my mind, I got the 1979 version than the 1982 version and it still works, I hit every button I used including the letters, the numbers and the fire buttons, everything works. I dig this 1979 edition a lot better than the 1982 edition. It uses 2 9V batteries, and the later ones have 4 AA batteries.
The late 70s and all through the 80s was the ABSOLUTE BEST time to be alive. It'll never be that simple & fun again
I am just impressive to find that this game was available in late '70s...

This particular model in the video is the '83 one. I had it as a kid.

Still have my copy of Electronic Talking Battleship (1995) since I was a kid
Mine is the 1979 “Electronic Battleship” without the talking, because the voice synthesis feature wasn’t introduced until 1989.

I just found mine, without directions, and appreciate seeing the directions. Hope mine works.

That looks so cool!

There was a booklet that told you what codes for each grid
For those of you have the newer version of “Battleship” which is the Hasbro Gaming edition, it should work with this game if you have the missing pieces.
Used to play this game by myself as a kid
They are all the coolest games
Cool games. I played Battleship but not the Electronic version.
I use to have this battleship game.
I never knew how to play that damn game when I was a kid..🤔
I had that Pac-Man game, remember saving up my money for it
Well, that’s Woody he sometimes he dresses up like that Batman

I had this game as a kid but I don't think i used it properly lol

Underestimated greatly...
Hi cat ❤
Just listed a Battleship & Pathfinder game on eBay AU
I miss mine so much
The game worked by a code book for the ships..

Nice kitty
You sound like Tom Hanks!
how much is it?
I don't remember how much it cost.
Must have cost a fortune in 78?
what with the beeping?
It's loud and it never stops.
@@denisnapolitan1853 is it loud?
It’s just a sonar sound where you turned on the game, you’ll hear the sonar sound and it never stops.
how can you start the game
Normal on/off switch
how much is it?
@@denisnapolitan1853 does it matter who goes first?
@@davidravitch I don't think so. I think we usually decided between ourselves.

I will play!
Cool
mine didn't work but i fixed it and now it works fine
My dad had one
I had that one
soo much fun with this thing
Kan ook tegen computer spelen alleen👍
This has to be the original 1977 version of “Electronic Battleship”. The 1982 version is far better than this.
Still have mine, gotta dig it out and see if it works.
