Installing Delta Shower Trim Kit on Multichoice Mixing Valve Body

- This is the Dryden Monitor 17 Series Trim Kit. You can call Delta for a better description of what distinguishes the 17 series vs others. But for this video, the important note is the use of the Delta Multichoice Valve Body.
This Trim Kit: amzn.to/2vJVjjo
We wanted to go with a trim kit that allowed us to set a desired temp, and then still be able to turn water on and off without having to reset the temp all the time. So that got us two valve handles. We chose the square pattern trim plates and shower heads just as a style we liked.
Delta makes this very user friendly with the multichoice valve body. You can rough in the valve body as we did here, months ago, and then take some time picking your trim kit as the project evolves. It also let's you easily change out trim kits later if you choose without having to replace the whole mixing valve assembly.
Install is very straightforward as shown in this video. Just be advised, the directions will have some duplicate information to satisfy other trim kits too.
Your video is actually better done than Delta HOW-To videos. Thanks for sharing.

THANK YOU, TOM! Our contractor installed this all wrong where the hot/cold water levels were misaligned & we weren't getting the best water pressure. Instead of panicking, your video taught me how to easily correct his mistakes. Seriously - thank you!
You’re very welcome! Enjoy that hot shower!
Thanks for this. The instructions Delta includes with these kits are as clear as mud but your video cleared it right up.
Happy to help!
@@TomBrueggen Thanks for the video. The delta instructions manual suck. You helped me better.
Thanks for the video. I followed it step-by-step during installing the valve and it was perfect!
Perfect! Happy to help! Please like sub and share!
Great details and explanations of how/why everything goes in, and why and where it does. Very helpful and very well done instructional video. Thanks a bunch

Thank you - your details and the rate you delivered them at was perfect. We fixed our luke warm shower :) Appreciated.
Nice, I’m happy to help!
Great details and explanations of how to install the Delta Shower Trim on Multichoice Mixing Value Body. Very helpful and very well done instructional video. Thanks! It worked very well for me.
Happy it helped! Thanks for watching!
This was so helpful, thank you! We couldn’t figure out the correct order of the plastic pieces with the paper directions. Thank you!! Very easy to understand.
So happy I could help! Like and subscribe. And hey, share the video! Honestly, the best way you can show appreciation is helping promote the video! I don’t want to sound desperate, but I am trying to grow my channel. I don’t have any really entertaining stuff to draw a crowd. I mostly try to share ideas and information to help the general person do things themselves and learn new skills. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for sharing, it’s helpful and exactly what I need rn!
Happy to help!
Good video…I’m installing same exact one now… always always use plumber’s grease and/or soapy water to seat those rubber washers in back and also for any o-rings so they can’t furl as you push on trim.
Exellent video to help with this installation--thanks so much--God bless!

Thank you!!! I’m going to do this myself 💪🏾
Good luck!!
Thanks for the video man !!! Great job and now I get to go install mine !! Peace ✌🏻
Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Went perfect !!! All works no leaks ! Lol thanks again man what ah HUGE HELP !!!
thank you much, now off to my job to install one on these, cheers
Good luck!
great video! you are a mechanical genius
I wouldn’t go that far. But I do like to tinker and see how things work
Great instructions!

Omg thank you. I've been trying to figure out where the faceplate anchor bolts go for three days now. The illustrations in the instructions are very unclear. Nice shower, btw. It looks great.
Nice! Happy to help. Thanks, yes the shower is nice. We love it!
thank goodness it wasnt four days lol
Delta's printed diagrams were far too small to distinguish the plastic parts so had to come watch a video. Thanks.
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
You just made my day by making this easy. Thanks!
Happy to help!
@Bug a Bug Pest Extermination: sorry I accidentally deleted your comment! If your water temps are backwards and it’s a new install it may be that you water lines are hooked up backwards. However if you’re just replacing the cartridge or trim kit and it used to be normal, then it’s possible your new cartridge is upside down.
Thanks for this video !!!!!
No problem thanks for watching! Please like share and subscribe!

Thanks Mr. Tom like people said Delta instruction are very unclear. I also noticed that your faucet make that “grounding” sound when you turn it ON and OFF. I had a Moen which was very smooth and this new Delta is not that smooth so I was really concern something wrong with the set. Thank you for such a good and clear video.
Happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Good video

Welcome 👍
how did it got in there? first second...shows the piece in the wall...thats what I wanna see, everyone says install the 1000 valve without breaking the wall but I dont see it in the video....the kit I assume is easy...but how to install the 1000 multichoice valve in there?
I don’t recall all the details but the multichoice valve body came with some basic rough-in instructions. You have to estimate your hardi backer and tile thickness to know how much to let your valve stick out past the studs. The collar on the trim kit gives you a good bit of leeway on this. I think I assumed something like an inch worth or hardi board and tile, and it worked out fine. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Did you ever figure out how to get rid of the gap on that outer temp control knob?
I don’t suppose but I guess it’s not an issue
I have a huge gap in my new T17476 trim kit. Delta tech support is clueless. It has nothing to do with how the cartridge is mounted, since it's the SAME GAP as when all the parts are together sitting in my hand. It's just poor design as the last white plastic piece does NOT recess far enough into the plastic handle !
Now in 2021, how is that space you described on the water control? How is it now? water getting in and ruining the inside?
Nice job, and a helpful video. I have a shower with a Delta Monitor 17 series faucet. It’s about 15 years old or so. I’d like to update the look. Will a new Delta 17 series trim kit work with the old valve and body? Any suggestions?
I’m not sure how far the universal bodies go back. Best I can say is pull the old cartridge out and just see what it looks like
@@TomBrueggen thanks Tom. I’ll give it a go.
Thanks a lot for the video. I had it installed few years back. Now i have to remove it to retile the shower. How do i remove the last trim plate that you snapped on? just pop it with a screw driver? thanks
The trim piece on the handle just snaps on. The main big plate against the tile has two screws, at least mine does. The collar that slips over the cartridge and valve body just slides on over an o-ring
@@TomBrueggen Great thank you
Great video! Does the bonnet and test cap prevent leaking when the system is pressurized? After I rough in the valve, It might be a week or two before I install my trim kit and I want to avoid leaks.
I don’t recall, but I think they’re supposed to. I didn’t pressure test until my trim kit and valve was in.
Your IWB weapon is showing :)
It’s ok. I don’t mind 😁
I know that you can adjust the valve to make the water colder or warmer. I think it has an anti scalding valve. do you know how to make the water warmer? When my plumber installed it he did not check it because on shower is warmer than the other. Thanks
There is a rotating notched stop disc inside that you just have to rotate one way or the other. It’s marked H/C. I believe you rotate it all the way towards the H which lets the valve open more to the hot side. If that doesn’t work then go the other way. I set mine wide open to max hot when I install them, and then control the temp through the valve like a sensible adult 😁. On our kids’ bathtub I did set it lower. It has a good purpose, but often folks don’t adjust them for the right situation.
@@TomBrueggen Thank you!
Thanks for this video! Did you happen to make one showing the rough install?
I don’t think I made one specifically on the rough in, other than the general video about roughing in the plumbing. I may have shown the multi choice valve body rough in there. I struggled a little bit on the rough in depth, but in hindsight, most trim kits have a generous collar to cover the valve sticking out, so I don’t think depth is too critical.
Thank you!!!
Nothing to it. Thanks for watching.
Hey love this video very helpful. By the way do you know the name of that wall tile you have on this shower looks beautiful. Thanks
I don't recall what it was called. We found it at Floor and Decor.
I don't recall what it was called. We found it at Floor and Decor.
Eskimo2k has it right. The instructions stink. The show and tell you created helped me get it done. Too many freaking spare parts in that box also....
Thanks for the video got mine installed and there seems to be a bit of a grinding noise when you turn the valve on and off pretty sure I hear it on your video as well does that go away after use or did I tighten something too tight?
I’m not sure. I don’t recall a grinding noise, nor do I notice one now. The main set screw may be over tight but I’m not sure that would do it.
Tom. Do you know which rough in valve you installed? I have the same trim as you, but after installing it, water will not come out the shower head. I am thinking maybe I put the wrong rough in valve
The rough in was deltas “universal” body. Should work with all of their new trim kits and valves after a certain year. Can’t recall what year that was. What matters is matching up the valve itself to the trim kit. Sometimes there is also a plug/clip on the back of the valve when you buy a new one. Make sure you remove that.
Did you remove the plastic guard the valve comes with?
Yes I believe so. I don’t really understand why it’s on there.
How can I find a trim kit that comes with handle shower head shower arm and cartridge?
Ehh...shop more? Most new trim kits come with a cartridge as well. Just have to find one with the parts you want. Not sure what you are calling the shower arm, but this 12” long extension and 90° neck that we used was bought separate. The shower heads may have been also, I don’t recall.
@@TomBrueggen thank you I thought it come with all the parts, that's why I dont see nothing at home depot just all the parts are sold separately. Thank you sir great video
Is this a rough in with stops or without, I did mine without the stops
Hm. I don’t know. Maybe without? I don’t recall any mention of “stops”.
My trim sleeve is too short for the body. Are there different lengths?
Umm...perhaps? But I think mine is a bit short also. The trim sleeve is held in place the o-ring on the body. So you slide it over the o-ring and then just ease it back. I don’t think it’s suppose to tag the base of the valve, it’s supposed to go just as deep as you need for a clean fit. If you mount your valve body too deep then the sleeve might seem to short perhaps.
Tom Brueggen i did a bit more research and older Delta models do have long sleeves. The problem exists with a lot of people evidently. I ordered a longer sleeve on Amazon.
rulinghabs huh. Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
At 5:03 you are talking about an o-ring. What o-ring? There is no o-ring there. There is another o-ring that is enormously larger that fits on top of the silver threaded nut and under the larger unthreaded silver sleeve, but there is no o-ring under the silver threaded nut.
There is an o-ring on the valve mechanism where it slides into the rough in valve body. It keeps water from wanting to leak out around the valve body. Unless I'm mistake or yours is missing. I put my finger on it in the video. You're thinking of the bigger o-ring that goes around the outside of the valve body under the trim sleeve to keep moisture from getting back inside the wall. Not sure what you are calling the silver threaded nut.
Nope, mine didn't have an o-ring there. I have the Lahara 17 series. I couldn't believe that none of the big box stores carry any of the shower faucets that control temperature and volume flow, only temperature control. That's like what you find in a cheap motel. It also wastes a heck of a lot of water without having the volume flow control like the old style round crystal handles they used to sell. They restrict our toilet tank size but then waste water with the mono-functional shower valves. What is wrong with our society? Glad to hear you carry too.
bluenetmarketing as much as I’d like to buy local, I think we bought our mixing valve trim kits on amazon.
These kits do let you hold a temp set, but you do still have to let it run a while to get hot water. Im planning to do a hot water recirculating system in the next house. In the grand scheme of things I don’t suppose it saves all that much water, but will save time for sure. The pump will be programmed to start running about 5 min before I want a shower or have another need. Or so is the plan. I’m still trying to decide between that or point of use water heaters or on-demand system.
Yes, I bought mine online at Lowes.com. The point I was making with water usage is, today's store bought shower faucets run full blast water flow, so everyone us using maximum water when showering, one of the most expensive water usage tasks we do. If they would normally stock the volume flow valves like they used to, we'd all be using a lot less water. I really don't give a damn if I have to wait a little longer for the temperature to come up. People are so damned lazy and narcissistic about things that don't matter (definitely not talking about you here). I have heard a lot about reliability problems on the point of use heaters. Good luck to you.
Well I won't lie, I do enjoy a good long hot shower sometimes, with high flow rate too. But the norm is a luke-warm, dive in and out sort of deal. Take my rare luxury when I can get it.
Point of use water heater would definitely be a last option, and only for a remote point, like a bathroom sink on the opposite side of the house from WH. They usually only have like a 2 gal tank. Can't run a shower off that! A loop seems the best. On-demand units are good compared to a tank heating up, then cooling down a bit over and over until it's used. But still have to run out the cold water for a bit until the heated water gets to the spigot. I'm leaning more and more towards just a recirculating pump and very well insulated hot water lines, so you don't lose too much heat when water is just sitting in the lines.
I have that model can u tell me the model number please
03750Rick mine is the 17 series. So any 17 series mixing valve should work. Perhaps also an 18 series works. I can’t recall what all the packaging said.
03750Rick if you have the universal multi choice valve body in the wall, then any newer model delta mixing valve should work. Just have to make sure you get a mixing valve that works with your trim kit. That’s what I was referring to as the “series”. I have a 17 series trim kit.
