True story, went to Vietnam for cross country back packing trip 2019. Got stuck in a one of many rainy flooded village and I tripped. The laptop bag fell in the muddy water. The T440s booted up but was acting weird. Waited a day, the hot Vietnam weather dried up the T440s and powered without an issue. The LCD has water marks to this day but I'm impressed this didn't die like any other laptops I had owned. Been doing tech support past 20 years. I replaced the LCD eventually and handed it to my younger brother who was looking for a dependable laptop. I bought a T560 but ended up buying a T440p at Goodwill for $30. The laptop booted with the power brick I had on T440s, upgraded ram, ssd, and works like a champ. These T series are prime candidate for hackintosh!
Absolutely an awesome story and it really does prove the dependability of these laptops!! Great Goodwill find too! These are seriously some great laptops and we hope to get more in the future. We agree that these are amazing for Hackintosh as well! Thank you very much for watching! 😀
Everyone seems to love the Lenovo T440p laptop these days. I had one 3 years ago they were quite cheap back then too. Reminds me how everyone loved the x201 and T420 secondhand. Dell 7390 are great too and quite cheap but I had two that stop working properly.
Great video actually! Replacing parts is easier than I thought! I've bought a T440P recently and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Mine comes with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. No fingerprint reader though. I'm replacing that 500GB HDD with a 240GB SSD once it arrives. At the moment I have to stick with the TN display, because I don't have enough money to buy a new one. With the color accuracy test you did, I got very impressed. IPS display it's a great improvement! I'm planning on upgrading to 16GB of RAM and a 4 core proccessor as soon as I get money to do it. This laptop sure is a cheap and powerful machine!
I hope you enjoy the laptop and all the upgrades! It's been a great machine for school and work. I plan on upgrading the processor in mine (i5-4300M) at some point in the future too. They're built like tanks and still more than capable for everything you might need to do with a sub $300 laptop.
I7 next😉 aaaaand trackpad ( personally i like the original one, coming from macbook pro habit)...M.2 ssd ( or have WWAN on ), intel AX200 for wifi...that should do the trick 🤫
I paid less for my T440P than the Windows Pro licence which came with it would have cost. (This was before lockdown pushed prices through the roof). It was sold to me with Ubuntu installed but I found a Windows Pro sticker on the underside and simply overwrote Ubuntu with Win 10 Pro. 😁
same laptop, just replaced hdd with 2tb ssd, and 16gb ram. I found a 1080 screen for it at Amazon. say has to be same resolution, do not upgrade. Any advise?
Thanks for watching! Since making this video I have moved on to the Dell XPS 15 9570, as I wanted the extra CPU and GPU power, as well as a 4K screen (which help with editing videos here for this channel). But for most regular school/office work the T440p is still a champ if you take the time to upgrade to a 37-watt TDP Core i7, 16GB of RAM, an SSD, and with a 9-cell battery it'll keep on running for a long time. Hope this helps!
Yes, as the SSD will boot faster and load documents and programs faster. For casual usage, a 128GB SSD should be more than enough. Thanks for watching!
sir i have this laptop but my bluetooth is disabled from bios and i can't enable it beacause its hardware password manager and supervisor protected can u plzz tell me how i can enable it beacuse i don't have write permission in bios i/o
Is that the best panel for this laptop? I have looked at a video from other channel that could get a 1920 x 1080 panel. I'm still newbie about this upgrading stuff
There are different models you can get - I opted for an AUO B140HAN01.3 panel which is a 1920x1080 IPS display. This display looks great and is definitely a huge improvement over the old panel, but choose the best one for you - this Reddit thread is a great source. www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/86pw7g/best_t440p_ips_fhd_panel_march_2018/
To my knowledge 1080p is the highest resolution for this form factor LCD. This is because Lenovo subsequently released an option for 1080p to the T440 series and up.
The r/ThinkPad subreddit is a great place to start. The x230 requires an extra board to be soldered into the laptop before a FHD display can be installed.
Sorry, we don't focus on gaming on our channel - but this build would be very good as a game streaming client. The specifications for the panel are available here; www.displaytechnology.co.uk/assets/product_files/B140HAN01.1_Datasheet.pdf
Depends on how much RAM and CPU power you need, 16GB is a lot of RAM for most tasks but I'm not sure how well it could run 5 emulators all at the same time.
Yep it should be able to run, especially with Optifine installed. You might have to lower the resolution & render distance of the game depending on what GPU you have built in. Thanks for watching!
hey i need an advice. I have upgraded my thinkpad t440p to an 8gb ram but the graphic memory has not change, instead it has remained on 2560 mb. Does anyone have an advice on what to do.
Thanks for watching! The T440p supports a maximum of 16GB of memory (2 sticks 8GB) and the GPU is limited depending on what model you get. Lenovo offered both an NVIDIA model with a soldered (non-upgradable) GT 730M GPU, and an iGPU only option with no dedicated GPU. The best upgrade you can get for these laptops is a Core i7-4980HQ with built-in Iris Pro graphics, which are much faster than the GT 730M models.

Just for the heck of it and curiosity this is something that I’m going to do. Thanks for the info. Currently getting the parts together! 🤓👍
This is an Excellent Tutorial - lots of detail which is explained and shown super clearly. Thanks !!
Thank you very much!! We're glad it's helpful! :)

Is a breath, like the one at 1:58 essential for the operation? I tried one without doing it, now the computer won't turn on.
I want to upgrade my lenovo thinkpad yoga 11e any tips?

Thanks for that video. Will the screen be compatible with the L440?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I'm not sure, but L series parts typically aren't interchangeable with the T series ThinkPads and vice versa.
This is very helpful, thank you
You're very welcome!
Hi mine just has 4gb attached to the board and one slot with 8gb, am i stuck at 12 gb ram? I want to do the display and the m.2 slot too.
do you still recommend this laptop for students this 2022?

I have maybe a weirtd question. Can a touch screen be hd. Can you get a hd touchscreen for a t440p or are they mutually exclusive.
Hi sir, this Lenovo t440 is good for video editing?
Come from the dell optiplex upgrading community looking to get one of these
Thanks for watching! I think that you'll find the ThinkPads to be just as upgradable for a laptop form factor.
So for casual usage such ms offices and standar browsing, it is recommended to upgrade Hdd to Ssd? Which one is better? Less of 128gb or bigger?
Yes, as the SSD will boot faster and load documents and programs faster. For casual usage, a 128GB SSD should be more than enough. Thanks for watching!
Should T440P work just fine with a 2TB SATA3 SSD?
Should replace the trackpad too. One from a t450 feels 100x better.
The connector for the monitor is it 30pin or 40?
Thanks for watching! The T440p supports displays with 30-pin eDP connectors.
My screen is 1600x900 14 inches. Will this screen works ?
sir i have this laptop but my bluetooth is disabled from bios and i can't enable it beacause its hardware password manager and supervisor protected can u plzz tell me how i can enable it beacuse i don't have write permission in bios i/o
Unfortunately the only way to remove a bios password is to reflash the bios with a special hardware programmer and software that can unlock the bios.
Sir i saw several videos where they short circuit cmos chip in hardware and reseted bios
What is the model of the screen?
I left a link to the screen I used to in the description - it looks fantastic and I highly recommend it!
Is that the best panel for this laptop? I have looked at a video from other channel that could get a 1920 x 1080 panel. I'm still newbie about this upgrading stuff

would i need to upgrade the screen if i upgraded the ram and hard drive?
Nope not unless you want to upgrade the screen. Thanks for watching!
I have x230, how to find the 1080p display that fits on it? Thank you
The r/ThinkPad subreddit is a great place to start. The x230 requires an extra board to be soldered into the laptop before a FHD display can be installed.
TwoGuyzTech thank you so much!
Is the DDR3 RAM which has 1.5V compatible with t440p?
For the T440p we would recommend a DDR3L dual-voltage memory kit. Thanks for watching!
Nice video thank you.
Thank you!
Is 1tb ssd sata compatible with t440p sir?
Yes
Yes it should be compatible. Thanks for watching!
Can we upgrade from 4gb ram to 16gb ram ?
Yes. My laptop came with 4GB of RAM and I upgraded it to 2x 8GB sticks.
Hello, Is the IPS Screen have 99.9% RGB? Im planning to use it for Photo editing
Can you please do game streaming test for this build pleaseeeeeeee

You can change video memory in the bios but only to 512
Can i upgrade it to 32gb (2 sticks 16 gb) and maybe a GPU upgrade?
Thanks for watching! The T440p supports a maximum of 16GB of memory (2 sticks 8GB) and the GPU is limited depending on what model you get. Lenovo offered both an NVIDIA model with a soldered (non-upgradable) GT 730M GPU, and an iGPU only option with no dedicated GPU. Can that core go on the 440p with a Nvidia
I never heard it would work. Only on perhaps a t450
