  • With the Om1 it is possible to shoot silky waterfalls handheld using the Hi-Rez or Live ND features combined with the Handheld Assist. NOTE: I forgot to mention live ND does not work in all shooting modes. It is available in manual mode which is my choice.

Thank you!!! You are the first one out of many videos on Live ND that explained the use of Handheld Assist. Just got my OM-1 (I'm a cheapskate) and was using the Live ND but did not know about the handheld assist. I was still able to get 1/2 second exposures about half the time but HHA should increase that dramatically. Good Job!!!

Glad I could help. Hand held assist is a great help when doing long exposure

Thanks for the comment, I hope the information is useful. The OM1 is a very versitile camera but complicated.

Thanks for the video, good content. Always wondered about the usefulness of handheld assist to the OM-1 (I have the EM1M3), makes total sense during blackout long exposures.

Your site is becoming quite popular so good for you and if others see this please have a look. I am surprised you can take the time to respond to everyone and so quickly, keep up the good work. Do try the Live ND, seems gimicky but it really works.

Panasonic also have a handheld assist feature in their L mount cameras and also added itinto their last M43 release the GH6. I have an OM-1 and also find it very useful for improving my hand holding tecnique.

Like you, I don't like to bring my tripod on my hiking trip. However, I don't think I want to risk having a blurry picture when I come home and viewing it on my PC, especially on a 10 second shot. My hands are not as steady as yours ☺. Just a note: To use live ND, the camera needs to be in Manual Mode.

10 sec is extreme but 1 o2 not so hard with the OM1. Faster moving water doesn't need as slow a shutter speed so eaier.

@@Travelingseniors-xt9yh I agree about 1 or 2 secs! I have to the OM1 -Mii and it now has the ND128. Waiting for a trip to test the waterfall shots.
