Just an FYI you didnt mention the recline leg underneath or the green indicator on the other side of the base that shows if the base is reclined correctly. For a baby who cant sit up unassisted, the seat should be as reclined as possible. So for a newborn you are most likely going to want to pull up the recline leg on the bottom of the base so the seat is as reclined as possible. The green indicator on the other side of the base is the carpenter level. For a proper install the bubble should be touching the black line to ensure proper instillation. I found at least in my car that I need to pull the recline leg on the bottom out in order for the bubble on the carpenter level to touch the black line meaning the seat is installed correctly. Since you dont have your recline leg out, just double check the bubble is touching the black line on the carpenter level indicator(green rectangle on the other side of the base). Since I think most people watching this will be installing the base to use with a newborn, they will most likely need the recline leg out so the seat is as reclined as possible which is the best for a newborn. Also a tip for installing..when I installed my base I had the load leg out and locked the lower anchor connectors into the lower anchor/latch inside the seat of the car, then played with the recline but the load leg made the base not sitting directly on the seat of the car so I had to move up the load leg two notches to have the base not elevated at all, properly reclined and have the load leg indicator turn green! So for latch installation check lower anchor indicators(like mentioned in the video), make sure the bubble is touching the black line to make sure the seat is reclined correctly, and once you have both of those good to go, THEN finally check the load leg to make sure the load leg indicator is also green! Base shouldnt move at all in either direction and then you are good to go! Also I originally had the floor mat in my car and the load leg was on the floor mat. But a CPST friend recently told me that floor mats should be removed and the load leg should sit directly on the floor of the car. Never would have known that so figured Id share for anyone else watching this vid/who has made it through my crazy long comment lol.

Thank you so much for this comment! I didn't know about this feature when i was installing my base last night and was very concerned that the incline was incorrect, but wasn't sure how to fix it.

Thank you for showing the ease of the installation. The manual was not as thorough, you added simplicity to this. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for this video! I just ordered this car seat and was a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to use without the base but now all doubt has been removed! Thanks a lot :)

When using the car seat without the bass what happens when a child’s legs get long and won’t fit under the seatbelt strap going across the top? I know many children who are not yet 32lbs and can remain in this carrier even if their legs are bent. Would it be acceptable to have them put their legs over the seatbelt strap?

How do you install this in a 1976 crown Victoria that doesn’t have seat belts in the back?

I´ve heard is the same in terms of security but it depends if your car has the isofix anchors or not.hope this helps :)

Hi! It looks like you didn't lock the retractor with the baseless installation, and you also used the built in lock off in the base and then locked the seat belt. If you're using the built in lock off you don't need to lock the belt. Definitely worth mentioning or editing!

Does locking the seat belt just mean how after she secured the built in lock off, she pulled the seatbelt all the way out and then let it go back up so the length was the exact amount that was needed? If she didnt do that couldnt the seat belt be loose? Im just confused how pulling the seat belt all the way out and then letting it go back up so it locks in the exact correct position to hold the car seat in place is a bad thing? In our newer SUV I feel like I dont really have to worry about also locking the seat belt too, but in our much older vehicle the seatbelt can be a pain so I need to pull the seat belt all the way out, click in the seat belt with it all the way out, and then release to lock the seatbelt in to the right place or the base moves too much even with the built in lock off secured properly. I guess I can see in our newer car I dont NEED to also lock the seat belt with the built in lock off but if it helps at all to make sure the base isnt budging, it doesnt hurt to do both. Is that correct? I think you are just saying you dont NEED to although you can if you want to right? Its not that you cant do both? just want to make sure its not something that seems to be safer but actually isnt lol like how you cant install with both latch and seatbelt kind of thing. I use latch installation in the suv but seat belt installation for the base in our older car and as I mentioned I use both the built in lock off and also lock off the seat belt bc its the only way the base doesnt budge. So just want to make sure thats ok to be doing both lol!
