Woodturning - Crotch log into a hole bowl !! 木工旋盤でハゼノキから穴あき花瓶を作る!

  • I started activities to regenerate trees that were cut for various reasons.
    In this video, a woodlathe is used to create a bowl from wax tree log by woodturning.
    Lacquer has the image of rough hands when touched, but dry wood does not roughen hands and its stem color is unique.

    I applaud you Sir, a nice piece of wood, that was turned thin. Most of the videos I watch, they would quit at three quarters inch, yours is one fourth inch or less.
    A unique piece of wood turned heavy is cool, a unique piece of wood turned thin is exquisite!

    My wood turning experience is limited to 70s high school shop class. So a technical question. Why do you always start by smoothing the face of a piece that is so lopsided? My instinct would be to round the side first to make sure it spun evenly for safety. You must have very much confidence in your equipment!

      I purchased it at "Off-Corporation" in Japan, but it seems that overseas sales are not supported.
      A similar product was sold on the subsequent link.

    You should have added resin to this one before turning!

      Thanks for your comment! We are considering purchasing a vacuum system to use the resin in the future. However, I would like you to enjoy the work with a hole like this work as an object.

    Did I miss the poison ivy part?

      I wrote poison ivy, but it looked like a wax tree in Japan. I thought it was dry, but my hands hurt ...

      I apply oils to osmotic colorless paints and gloss to keep shape longer! It is a pity that penetrating paint is only available in Japan.😣

    what kind of finish are you applying on the bowl?

    • @YamabikoWoodArt
      @YamabikoWoodArt  5 років тому

      It is a penetrating hardener called "Kigatame Ace" in Japanese products!
      Makes the work more durable, and cracks are less likely to occur even in thicker parts!

      thank you I am working with cedar pieces that are dry and some are cracking once turned. I enjoy watching how you work. Leah Scilingo is also subscribed and I have introduced to the lathe.. She has unlimited potential. @@YamabikoWoodArt

      Most of the trees I handle are greenwood.
      As it is, it will be easily broken, so it will be thinner at a time.
      This will not break.
      I will do my best in the future!🙏

    Dangerous! Hold that JACOBS CHUCK when withdrawing from cut ......but otherwise nice work .🇪🇸 ps why not use a female tenon?

    • @YamabikoWoodArt
      @YamabikoWoodArt  5 років тому

      Thanks for your comment! I learned a lot! The teil stock was rampaged several times when it was pulled out. We will hold it from next time!
      In Japan, it is considered beautiful to see the bottom deeper in appearance, and Tenon is issued so that the center can be pushed later.

      There were many opinions about this perforated bowl.
      Fill with resin / Do not fill natural holes.
      I decided to make a hole in this work.
