'63 was my 1st year at The Newport Folk Festival. As a native Rhode Islander it was a special treat for a 14 yr old kid !! Met Taj Mahal (before he became famous)...he was playing in the park across the street from the field where the concert was..Joan Baez introduced us to a young, skinny kid named Dylan....so many memories...a little blurred by time...but still in there .......always !!!
Newport is a town that attracts wealth and musicianship. Jazz, folk, whatever, it is a destination. Glad Dave was a part of the festivities in 1963. Wish I could have been there at five. If I had been, I still would remember being there, I'm sure.
When I was in high school and college in the 1960s, "Cocaine" was not a drug that anyone I knew had any experience with, as far as I knew... Instead, it was the name of this song and that guitar lick that Dave spread around the world.
This makes me so fucking happy I love seeing him when he was young.. is this the only footage of him from then? The only other videos I’ve ever been able to find are from the 80’s

I hope you've had the chance to pass those stories along
There's Sonny Terry and Brownie Magee sitting right beside and behind Dave Van Ronk.

there are several other clips from Newport - once they are located and we restore them they may find the light of day
@@HistoricFilmsArchive did it ever happen with the Van Ronk 60s clips restoration?
Share the original recording.
Ronk and Shel Silverstein should've written together.
Is there any film/video here? Can hear the audio but get a black screen. Rights revoked or something?
video starts partway in, around 1:50 seconds.
It's some ridiculous tactic to prevent piracy and copyright infringement I believe.
why’s he look photoshopped ??
