Sooooooooooloving masterpiece!!!!!A great manifestation that certainly makes one ecstatic. Thanks for uploading with heartiest regards from all of my 💓.
At the end of a long tiring journey. That is what this music makes me consider. It is very reflective, but at times I hear outbursts of remorse. Overall it is very peaceful.
Yet another wonderful piece of music from Peteris Vasks with some beautiful solos for the woodwind. It opens with a nod to The Swan of Tuonela and even around 13.5 minutes in gives us a brief excursion into the anger of Shostakovich. I was ever so slightly disappointed not to hear a few delicate touches of the vibraphone in the early sections, which seem to be favourite of Vasks in other works. It defines "elegaic"!
I was even more disappointed that you, like so many others, make personal comparisons to the works you hear with those of other composers. If you met Mr Vasks in person, would you say " Like your music, but it reminds me of Sibelius or Shostakovich". It's hugely insulting.

There is just one word to sum up the music of Peteris Vasks: Compelling.
