Here is a classic OG chapter on the SP Yard in Roseville when it was really hopping! From our movie "Espee Hall of Fame" www.cspmovies.com

SP is my choice for modeling! I grew up in the SF Bay Area in the ‘70s and it’s what we saw all the time.

I just love watching making up trains in the yard my heart yearns for the days of the Southern Pacific😢

The Roseville Hump was a special place for sure. You could sit there all day and watch trains being made up with clean rolling stock and vintage SD-7 and SD-9 engines.
I once read that the tracks between Elvas and Roseville yard, were the hottest 10 miles on the whole system for seeing SP! Everything on the railroad eventually went thru this corridor at one time or another especially when the Donner and Shasta lines were pumping out trains!
      Full on action!

I live near Roseville. Its's grown quite a bit since this video was taken. Its 5 miles long and it humps 24/7.

Wow, at 15:20, you can still see that same track setup, just like back in the 70's. Its the city yard.

At 6:49 you could probably still tell by looking at the springs on the trucks if they were compressed or not if the car had any kind of load on that gondola excellent video springs back memories of my favorite railroad the southern Pacific, although I grew up in Southern California

Thanks remylopez, you are right you can tell by the springs if the cars are loaded it is pretty cool really! Especially at slower speeds!

Why have you taken down your how to model ho boxcars video? I was only watching it the other day as my modelling focus has shifted from todays Railroads back to the transition era. Your video has a lot of information that is very helpful to this end.
Can you reupload it please. Thanks.

    Speaking of munitions...
Any images of the Antelope disaster?

No, but in the full DVD we actually have a 1990 munitions train roll through the yard while we explain the effects of the old blast on the area.

@charlessmileyvideos I lived in South Sacramento at that time. Our house shook even at that distance!
