Haha. Same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I went to Half Hitch and picked up a Stradic 3000 w/ 15lb power pro. Swung by one of the ramps on the northeast side of the Destin Bridge and ran into a HUGE school of 30-40lb Jacks. 3 mirrolures later, I had the 4th one taking off towards the bridge. Luckily he popped me off on a piling or I would have lost all of that power pro. Lots of fun though!
Hey brother I do same fishing same area "yes I know that spot" Next time place your rod tip downward and pull to the left or right it'll up the chance of turning him Good luck :) happy fishing
thats what i was thinking too...i was like he sets his drag so loose. you could tell just by the first fish he caught how loose his drag was. then a fish just spooling him probably cuz he set to like 5lb drag when he should have just tightened it all the way and used his hand to help cool the washers.
I agree about setting your drag from start, but he is soaking bait and leaving it in a rod holder. If he set his drag tight while in a rod holder, then that's a good way to lose your whole setup into the ocean.
Idc what anyone says. My shimnos feel better than my Penns or Diawas and they are my longest living reels. I have a stradic from 18 years ago that was $400 at the ttime my most expensive reel bought. It is still as butter smooth as the day i bought it. Im no fanboy for any brand but i always go back to my shimanos...
He was too slowwww 😂 to react too his drag, let him run too much and taking line then everthing on his way hits the line. When he hooked it say this dude gonna loosse this fish 👍 Tim Tom no this too doing it the right way ! Life baits fishing big predators with 2500 less cap thats also a NoNo
just found this channel while looking for a new reel.. what i would like to know is how to reel feels now after getting spooled? Does the drag feel sticky after that run? Anyways great video and glad i found ya. cheers and keep up the great content.
There was zero difference after being spooled. Still smooth and free. I think that's due to the quality and it only being spooled once. If it got spoooled repeatedly I imagine it would start to wear or melt shims. Thanks I will
Here is one, proven downside of adjusting your drag WHILE the fish is taking line: inertia, even with the best materials ever made for drags, "an object at rest tend to stay at rest, an object in motion tends to stay in motion". Think of pushing you car by hand, it is MUCH harder to get it going, then to keep it going. So, if you watch your rod tip with a hooked fish, you will see it go way down until the drag starts to slip, then the rod comes back up quite a bit, cause it is harder to get the drag to start, then to maintain. So while it is running, you crank the damn thing down. Then the fish stops and when it starts to run, suddenly "the drag seized up"; no, it didn't, you cranked the crap out of it WHILE the fish was running, don't do that. Set the drag before you ever hook a fish then leave it alone
After that first run the drag was probably so hot it could not be clamped down anymore. I don't think there was anyway to get this fish in. It's standard speed was already fast and those sprints were really impressive haha. The underside of the Saragos drag knob is aluminium so can't overheat like the rubber underside of the Stradic drag knob. I wonder what the new Stradic SW has. I would assume the same as the Saragose. This video made me realize that the Shimano 2500/3000 difference is not only the drag and deeper spool but also the handle. The 2500 has the simple I-handle and the 3000 the T-handle. I can't decide what's nicer so I will probably buy both haha
I agree about setting your drag from start, but he is soaking bait and leaving it in a rod holder. If he set his drag tight while in a rod holder, then that's a good way to lose your whole setup into the ocean.
@@ScottMikles Great job. My dream is to buy a truckcamper towing a small boat and fish the west coast of Florida. Being an ex South African i miss my good fishing we had because Greece is overfished. Keep up the good work.
@@ScottMikles Thanks Scott, I finally understand; people kept saying they have no anti reverse, so I thought they meant the reel would turn backwards if a fish picked it up while in a holder. Now I understand, thanks for giving me the info
@@fadelover123 Yeah, I was ignorant as to how it works. It DOES have anti-reverse, so first, I guess we can call it a reel. What it does NOT have is a lever to take the anti reverse OFF. THAT advantage is that it is sealed better, the only down side is you can't "back down" he line, turning the handle one, two, etc full cranks down if you want to lower your bait down in a measured way. I BOUGHT ONE, by the way Lyf, and as luck would have it, caught on 6 pound line, a 5 pound catfish; that drag is as good as any drag I have ever seen--ever, on any reel.
@@fadelover123 Yeah, but see, it DOES have anti reverse, what it does NOT have is the ability to take the anti reverse OFF. It is on all the time. For me, that is not a problem AND in salt water, it gives a superior seal from water intrusion. Unless you really need to be able to turn the handle backwards--and who does?
Great video. I just bought the 5000, cant wait to use it. Question, I've never live bait fished before, what's the rig you were using? It was hard for me to make it out in the video. Looked like an egg sinker with a 3 foot drop and a live bait hook? Thanks and again, great video!!!!
Nice, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Yes, that's what the rig was. Allows the bait to drift freely. I just bought the 1000 a few days ago. About to do an unboxing on it as well.

Too big to fish all day long
U shouldn’t use ur hand to stop the drag completely , the drag should’ve been tight enough from the beginning.

I'll be at your shark video spot this weekend
Never heard of the c14. I’ve heard of a ci4 though.
As the saying goes, "Don't bring a knife in a gun fight". Nice fight.
Haha no way dude we literally are using the exact same set up 😆 only difference is I have the 7’0 Teramar still medium action
Sweet setup for sure. Just don't hook a 25 lb. jack crevalle on it🤣
I think the guy with the daiwa shirt has the right idea.
Big shark.
fishing with 2500, 10lb line with a live mullet....what were you expecting?
What I was expecting was to have fun and that definitely happened. The whole idea was to film it being spooled. So, success.
What is a difference between hg and cheese?
Hello
Do you know if I can use a bigger spool from 3000 stradic fl?
If the body is the same size I'd imagine you could. Some reels work that way, not sure about the Stradic.
It’s a damn shimana
