Why do you want to practice lip bends? As for me, I love the stretch it provides my face. Musically speaking, I believe it helps the trumpet sound more like the human voice.

Great video, thanks Chris. I practice lip bending because it helps me center tone and loosen up. My downfall is I’m an impatient person so I recommend switching up between exercises often and as you always say, plenty of rest in between helps too.
Yes! That’s what attracted me to Lip Bends, initially. Finding the center of the tone.
I agree that for jazz lip bends make the horn sound more voice-like. Plus, I love to sneak in quarter tones and lip bends almost get me there :-)

This is so good Chris! I love lip bends because it helps me with intonation, strengthens my embouchure, and actually helps me to hear the next note before I play it. I believe lip bends are a great fundamental for all trumpet players from intermediate to Pro level. (I think beginners are still developing basic sound production on Trumpet and lip bends at this point would be premature...I think)...Love your teaching Chris, keep doing what you're doing!....thanks again, and God bless,

Found you on google bc as a 1st day trumpet player I was able to blow air straight through the horn & bell with no sound multiple times somehow (it wasn't the valves 🥴)
Anyway, I love how you talked about each person having their own unique/signature sound, and really dig your teaching style 🦾, glad I found your channel first. I can't wait to play more once my neighbors are awake lol

Thanks Chris. Just got back into playing trumpet about 4 years ago, after nearly a 60-year period. Had a handful of lessons when I was about 11, but otherwise dug out the horn in an attempt to squeak out a few Christmas carols every 5 to 10 years or so. Anyway, getting a lot more serious now and not doing too badly. I'm probably at a solid intermediate level; knocking on the door of advanced level. But way short of professional.
On lip bending I'm doing pretty well on going down to a half step and occasionally a full step; middle G to F# or F. As an experiment, I've tried bending "upward" but not having much luck; always wants to "snap" into the next harmonic partial. Any advice on bending smoothly upward? I will order your Endurance book now also. Happy New Year!

Regarding bending up…
Fine movement of the tongue is required and I’d advise to blow toward/into the resistance.
