Forst of all, huge respect for your keenness of learning about sufi culture and how the play of words and innuendos work in sufi urdu poetry.
Nizammuddin and khusrau aur very respected poets and spiritual leaders in sufism.
Wedding in spirituality sense is often taken as a time of meeting/feeling the connection to Allah in overnight prayers.
The mention of being colored to the color of Holy prophet and saints means the molding of our inner selves as to what God and His Prophet intended.
Being selfless and detached from desires of this world and becoming devoted to Allah and His commandments.
Mention of O mother is completely a play on words and is a cultural thing when talking so dearly about something. Like (o man, I'm really in love with that girl)
And in sufi poetry there's often gender switch to portray the love towards almighty like how a woman's love towards her husband is. Metaphorically speaking.
There's a great use of metaphors that sound very odd to a new listener and a person from another region/language.
But it's common in Urdu especially sufi urdu poetry.
And at the end, Gokul and Mathura are 2 historically old cities of knowledge and study.

Starting of, the poem is written by the same guy, Khausrao, who wrote Chaap Tilak, so you can draw parallels with what is the basis of story behind this song as well. A Hindu girl is informing about her mother how is was baffled by the colour i.e. the spirituality and piousness of Khawaja Nizamuddin Auliya, one of the greatest Saint or Wali, friend of God,( back story, the names mentioned in the song are of walis of India, such as Chisti, Ala uddin , according to Sufist traditions, some of the people who are God fearing and excellent in their character are selected by God to become saints or Walis, who spent all their life spreading the message of Islam and converting non-Muslims to the true way through peaceful means and presenting them with miracles bestowed upon them by God, however it is to be noted they do not have position similar to any of God's prophet and it is up to yourself whether you should accept they were really like what they are described) and after marrying him, she realised the wrongdoings of her religion as she mentions how she have travelled all over the India and the world, but she did not found the same inspiration she found from glancing at Nizamuddin, as she mention Mathura and Gokul, places which has deep religious significance to Hindus. Poets are sneaky so they make their poems to be intercepted as multiples things rather than singular topic. FYI, Muhammad PBUH is the seal of the prophets and no prophet will ever come after him. Sufism calls that inspiration was transferred from Muhammad (his cloak mubarik) to his son in law Maula(master) Ali, and thereby to his family ( Shia calls them the 12 imams) and then to all the Walis (preferred to being member of family of Ali, Ahl-e-Bath) through some chain of succession, which people are telling you about in the comments.

@@viqarqadir thats where the sneaky part of poets come. You never know what they are writing about because they are in a specific zone at that time. And, toreach that zone is being wali. Everyone interprets their writings according to their own understanding.

    • @viqarqadir
      @viqarqadir 2 роки тому +1

@@ahmadarshad7906 It’s not that sneaky :) ishq in Sufi poetry is equivocal and maybe interpreted as ishqe haqiqi (for god) or ishqe majazi (the standard variety…imagine sohni mahwal) So when a Sufi talks about ishq it’s always a mix of these two unless it’s very clearly specified.
Another pretty standard technique that sufi poets employ is the point in discussion here: it’s all roses and butterflies as long as you stay within the ishqe majazi side of things. But when it comes to ishqe haqiqi, you have the gender problem. If the Sufi is the male, who is the female in the relationship? But that’s not possible right? So the Sufi assumes the female role in ishqe haqiqi. The Sindh and Multani tradition took this a step further and applied the same rule to the love for the Spiritual Murshad…the Pir. The song is about “Rang”…the color or the influence the Pir leaves on the Mureed by their proximity and “Bethak “. It’s about total devotion to the spiritual leader and the poet assumes the female (read submissive….those were different times) role. There is a lot of nuance and beauty in this sub-structure of roles and meanings in Sufi poetry. I just pointed it out because reading it as a banal love story of a Hindu (or Muslim) girl detracts from the depth of meaning.
For example Bulleh Shah in “ni main jana jogi de naal “ is not talking about some girl…he is talking about himself…the poet. Once you spot this pattern, you will find it everywhere in Sufi poetry.

      Nizamuddin is the poet.
O mother can have multiple meanings again. In the Indian subcontinent, your homeland is also generally called motherland. So could be interpreted as such.
Interesting factoid. This video was just the practice jamming session and it was so good that they decided to release it after Amjad Sabri was sadly killed.

Nijamuddin Auyliah: The closest thing in west/Christianity would be saint. He was a Pir/Auliah/saint. In sufi style, everything is about love and devotion. That's why sometimes it sounds like the devotee is singing about his lover and sometimes it's about someone who's God's favorite.

Every human has some elements of Gods attributes, anger, love, effection etc. Though we are with flaws where God is perfect.
People saying they see God in their master is because those saints are soo deeply in love with Allah that you cant help but remember Allah in their presence. Thats why we say we see you as if we are seeing Allah because at that point that person does not exist, he has rejected his ego and painted him self in Gods love.

You did homework and didn't hesitated to learn more which is really impressive also I appreciate you to do more, you are always welcome to learn about Islam and it's norms along with it's rich history and I hope you'll be able understand how some (very small amount of peoples who used Islam and certain Hadith along with Quran's verses which gave strict instructions on, in which and how a muslim should Jihad {Firstly, to fight against Devil inside your mind/soul for securing you from Devil's influence by asking Allah's mercy. Secondly, after successfully doing the first point then to take stand against oppressors who's a threat to your not only religion but also for the whole society in whole as well. Give message to the oppressor about your religion which means give a brief information about your faith. After doing these if the oppressor continues to oppression the final step is to fight against the oppressor even if you have chance to loose your life, you have to fight against the oppressions for the love of Allah and your beloved religion}
Thank you for learning about Islam. May Allah bless you Cojak! ❤️

These qawalies are continuously series, they differ in style n lyrics but have same subject like Allah, prophet Muhammad and saints following him. Auliya also means saint. Khwaja nizamuddin, mueen uddin and fariduddin all are those who spread islam in whole sub continent. That message, thought, love of Allah and Prophet Muhammad 's love is the basic colour everyone opted. So they are repeating this again and again. They praise it because there is nothing more pure and beautiful than the colour of Allah. They refer to mother because they have listened to the stories of Allah, Prophet Muhammad and saints from mother. Its mother's belief as well. It is all generation after generation. The soil is also called mother here. People refer or address it for commitment.

Hey man, love how you were actually interested in the lyrics and not just the music.
First of all you have to know who Sufis are. They are spiritual guides. People pledge allegiance to them and become their students. The Sufis are connected to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) via the spiritual realm, and the Prophet then takes him/her to Allah (this still exists today). These guides can then give authority to their students to also become masters, and this can be verified by the Prophet again via the spiritual realm. These chains of spiritual guides lead back to the Prophet via the Prophets cousin/ son in law Ali ibn Abu Talib (mentioned at the beginning of the poem), only one chain (g he Naqshbandi chain) doesn't go through Ali, it goes through the Prophet's closest companion Abu Bakr, and after the Prophet passed away, Ali pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr.
So this poem was written by Amir Khusro (mentioned mid poem). He found his guide Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya and pledged allegiance to him and become his student. He then went home and told his mother how the colour/beauty of Nizamuddin captured his heart. The verse referring to the wedding and husband was used in a metaphorical sense, just as on a wedding husband and wife become connected by a bond, matter and student become connected by a bond. The master can always reach the student via the spiritual realm.
The colour refers to the character/personality. A student finds his guide based on his personality. But the core of Sufis is follow the character and actions of the Prophet which is what helps them achieve such high spiritual stations with Allah.
The names mentioned towards the end were all Sufi masters. Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti was the master and guide of Khwaja Qutbuddin Khaki, who was the guide of Baba Fariduddin Ganj Shakr, who was the guide of Khwaja Nizamuddin (Khwaja means great helper, Khwajgaan is the plural, mentioned in the poem). These are all distinguished names of the Chishti Sufi chain/order. Mehboob e Ilahi (mentioned) means Beloved of God, a title given to Nizamuddin due to his lofty station with Allah.
The shout of 'Allah' midway was one of amazement, just as one would say 'of my God' in amazement of something.
I hope I covered the main points, please ask if you want more info, I'm sure myself and others will be able to help

O Mother = oh my god, not literally but in similar meaning
Gokul and Mathura and Delhi are cities in India since the piece was written 100s of years ago in undivided India.
saying Allah: His father, Ghulam Farid Sabri used to say this aloud, it was his trademark
Some fun facts and one sad fact. This was Amjad's last appearance in Coke studio and unfortunately he didn't live to see this performance as it was released after his death.
This was supposed to be the 1st full rehearsal before the actual final recording but they decided to take it as the final version.
This same piece was sung almost 45 years ago by Rahat's Uncle the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali and Amjad's Father and Uncle, Maqbool Sabri together. So this Coke Studio piece was to pay tribute to them as well.
If you feel down, I recommend listening to Coke Studio "Rock Star" by Ali Zafar. A completely different feel to what you've listened to so far in Coke Studio.

Hats off to u cojaks... This entire thing is a new culture to u fo sure.. This is a deep sufi creation probably more than five hundred years ago. Written by great Amir Khusro, a close apostle of Nizamuddin Auliya, Mehboob e Elahi (God's belived),one of the greatest saints in sub continent. Amir is praising and expressing his feelings about his mentor (Nizamuddin). It is a master piece. Amir has inventions of many many musical instruments to his credit. His soulful renderings are equally scintilating and impressive. Chaap tilak is another master piece by Amir. There is so much about Amir Khusro that you need days to read his love, devotion to his mentor and God, and his writtings and inventions.

This poetry is about a woman who is telling her mother about her beloved that she is going to meet him and she is happy on that meeting.
But in actual all these are metaphores and here beloved means the murshid (spiritual teacher/master) whom a mureed (student/devotee) made alliance to and set on the journey of love of God. On that path, they first get in love of murshid, so that by the act of love n devotion of murshid, the murshid may help them (teach them) to reach God. so the song is a metaphore where a mureed is happy on his meeting with murshid, a simple devotee is happy over his meeting to his beloved teacher.

Appreciat your Review cz yiu do it in a way both to Understand and Respond musically but also the lyrically..... As Qawalies in Pakistan especially are Real Piece of Art not Only Music.... each Pause and each things in Qawaliz usually based on references/Metaphors (Highly Relegiosly) passing on Generations to Generations with holy Traditions

Someone must have commented already.. Gokul and Mathura are holy shrines in India and the poet is referring to their respect.

O mother ......because the song is of a woman who is telling her mother that she will be united with her husband today and how describes how happy she is about it . Rang or colour is a metaphor for soulful union because it paints/ colours your body mind and senses with it ....here there is also the mention of sufi saints like Nizamuddin and allauddin who worshipped Allah or God through love .....similar to bhakti movement of Hindu saints like Meera who too worshipped the lord Krishna through love ( she considered Krishna to be her husband) who lived at Gokul and mathura . Sufism had both Muslim and Hindu followers and in fact bridged the two religions in a spiritual way

Gokul and Mathura are the two holy place according to Hinduism. Gokul where Lord Krishna spent his childhood and Mathura is where he was born in prison.

The phrase "O Mother" is very common in our Indian literature. It's like when a naive child is talking with his mother. He is explaining something exciting he discovered.
The song is written almost 800 years ago by Khwaja Amir Khasrou. The song is dedicated to Khwaja NizamUddin and other Khawajas such as Alauddin Sabir, FaridUddin, QutubUddin and others.
Gokul and Mathura are two famous cities of ancient India. Mathura was said to be the capital of 'Kushan Empire' and was the most beautiful city at that time.
Khwaja NizamUddin and others were somewhat close to Saints in Christianity.
The song is inshort praise of Khwaja NizamUddin. There are 22 Khwajas of Delhi one of them was female and other 21 was male.

Nizam ud Din Awliya was equally honoured & loved by Muslims, Hindu's, Christmas & Sikhs in India, although he was a Muslim , a perfect Muslim. While Ameer Khusro was a true lover of Khawaja Nizam ud Din. Lyrics have been written by Ameer Khusro.
