No exploration of Latin music is complete without a selection or two from Jesse Cook, master flamenco guitarist. I was privileged once to attend his concert. Small venue, jammed and intimate. He was backed by an entire percussion ensemble (like in this vid). At his insistence, NO ONE was in their seat. EVERYONE was dancing down the aisles in a giant Rhumba fest! It was one of the finest shows I've ever been in presence for. I became aware of him initially when I found his "Montreal Live" cd in a world music bin at Barnes and Noble. I own his whole catalog now. When I had occasion after that show to meet him for an autograph, he inquired how I happened to know of him? lol And that's exactly what I told him. He was so humble and lovely...and TALL. From Canada and new in his career, he'd clearly underestimated his fresh popularity in the states. For me, he's unparalleled in his genre.
I just "discovered" Jesse Cook last night (PBS). His music has all the elements that I love. What a marvelous charismatic musician. I am transfixed by the music he and his group make; unique and exciting.
The amazing violinist is Chris Church - a Canadian from the East Coast. About ten years ago, I attended a Jesse Cook outdoor concert. It was a beautiful warm summer night sitting outdoors surrounded by the vineyards of "Jackson Estates" in the Niagara area of southern Ontario. What a fabulous evening and performace and the setting was gorgeous. I'll always remember that lovely night!
When i hear the violin coming im always like WOOOOW thats is THE sound i like the most,, it has such feelings inside the sound a violin makes .awesome.. im 31 ,, and my mother told me i should listen to him. and i am really really impressed. i will tell my children to when im older later! love from The Netherlands
Ajmaeen Mahtab Look him up on his website, on FB, etc. He is a composer, a multiinstrumentalist, a singer. He plays world music, so I doubt he needs an arabic violin, since he plays a lot of different musics. With Jesse Cook, it's a lot of new Flamenco, Rumba, some pop, and middle eastern, aslo India influence. Watch more of Jesse Cook's videos, he plays also with Smith & Dragoman, again WOrld music. But ask him about his violin.
After reading so many comments and realizing how loved these guys are around the world, I feel so privileged to say I get to see them here in my little hometown of Vernon, BC for the THIRD time!!!! Looking forward to October 2018
It's impossible to sit when listening to Jesse's music! I've been to three of his concerts and each time everyone, young and old, were up on their feet dancing almost the whole time! I love it. :)
Beyond fantastic! Completely MESMERIZING! Bravo to Jesse Cook and to all of the wonderful musicians, performers and assistants both on and off stage. This is music that shakes me right down to my soul!
Grand compositeur de très grand génie, il a composé de si belles musiques toutes plus ennivrantes les unes que les autres; je suis si heureuse de l'avoir connu, quelle belle découverte! merci pour toute cette beauté!
As a classically trained guitarist, this is one of my favorite pieces ever. My border collie and I dance around the living room to this, as if I were 20 and he were 5.
I've picked this amazing piece to skate to for my latest figure skating program. It's amazing to move to. Glorious mix of guitar and middle-eastern sounds. Love love love it.
attended Javier Limon's "FLAMENCO ORIGINES' (World Music Institute at Kaufman Hall, NY) last night with some superb young musicians and great cuating by Javier, and that has me looking for more. Loved the enrgey of this - and the beginning was 'muy flamenco'
Eine Zusammenkunft exzellenter Virtuosen , ein Erlebnis für Zuhörer und Zuschauer. Vielfältige Kulturen harmonieren perfekt miteinander bei der interpretation von Musik schlechthin.
