    I really love the idea of having a "full" shower available. I cannot see anything amiss. Bed, lounging chair, full tv (not that I watch it that much anymore, I watch more UA-cam movies, videos, etc)., big enough kitchen to cook and clean after. Excellent design and workmanship. Very impressive, Robert.

    • @Robertsramblings

      John, you should check out some of the other replies and also look in the back on the video. I have a huge amount of storage. As matter fact there’s so much storage that some of the storage bins in the back of the van are actually empty. I can continue to carry the bins because you never know when you might want to buy something along the way. However, that being said, there is more than enough storage for clothes or anything else you would like to carry. Is it as convenient as being in the front of the van? Well, no, of course not, it does require some thought as to what you’re going to do the next day and take it out and move it to the front. That being said it sure does free up a lot of space in the front for actual living rather than storing. Appreciate your comment. 🙂

      I suppose there’s lots of different ways to live or travel in a van. Let me address the specific examples that you cited. Clothes storage is handled in the back in some of the containers that you saw in the video. There’s actually 15 of the plastic containers. Right now I have some that are empty, nothing in them, space to spare. Two of the drawers that you see beside the refrigerator are also empty. What I do for close storage is keep the bulk of the items in the back of the van and only move a few to the front as I need them i.e. two or three T-shirts, some underwear, some socks and maybe shorts or jeans depending up on the weather. I would assume in a home that everybody does a similar thing by keeping clothes stored in their closet or in their dresser and only bringing out what they need as they need it. Correct? Since raincoats are usually wet when you bring them in, I hang mine it in the shower. After it dries, it goes in the glove box in the front of the van so it’s easily accessible when needed. If you look in the video you’ll probably see several pairs of shoes sitting in the back of the van in the garage area. I do keep extra shoes, lol. As far as the trashcan, unlike in a home where you have a can and you store the trash for a day, two days, three days and then you take it all out at one time I just use the plastic bags that I bring groceries in and fill those bags with the trash then dispose of those on a daily basis. The place for the clean bedsheets is on the bed. You don’t carry around a lot of linens. Towels, washcloths, sheets, etc. When it’s time to clean the sheets you take them off, clean them, dry them and put them right back on the bed. When living or traveling in an area that is 70 sqft I just don’t have the luxuries that I have in my beautiful home. Everything‘s not perfect but it is sufficient. 😊

      The whole goal in this build was to make it as simple and as easy as at home. Of course, it’s a much smaller space and it’s never going to be just like home. But I don’t think you can get any closer. I’ve really been pleased with this build. Thanks for your comment.🙂

  • @randizzleforshizzle9957

    I love how simple his build is. And this is the first one that I've seen that only has the build on one side. I was thinking about doing that when I go to build my own, but was worried about if the weight needed to be evenly distributed on each side. I want to keep the van open in case on rainy days I'd still need to entertain my dog. She's 90 lbs and is up my butt every step I take. So I imagine it could get tight when she's following me around. Or if we do some brain games on the floor she has room to stretch out. I love watching these videos for inspiration.

    • @Robertsramblings
      @Robertsramblings 7 місяців тому +9

      Thank you! I know it looks like all of the weight is on one side when you’re just outside looking in, but I put an in-depth explanation in one of the other comments. If you really want to build a van like this, then you should find that comment and read it. I believe it would explain a lot as to how I balanced the weight on both sides. A lot of the weight is in places that you don’t even notice unless it’s pointed it out to you. Another thing that everyone has overlooked is there’s no upper cabinets. This in itself makes the van feel a lot more open. A transit van is less than 6 foot wide at the top where the cabinets would go and if you come in and add a 12 to 16 inch wide cabinet on each side, then you’ve lost a lot of the openness. It just makes it look and feel claustrophobic. I’m utilizing the garage area for a lot of the storage that most people will put in the living area of their vans. Is it a little more work, well yes, of course it is, but is it worth it? Absolutely!

      Yes, I enjoyed our visit! Hopefully our paths will cross again. One tip on using a cassette toilet is empty often! Never used a composting toilet and so I have nothing to compare to. However, I sometimes hear people on UA-cam complaining about the smell of whatever system they’re using. Of course you’re gonna have the immediate smell of someone going to a bathroom, I think everybody could understand that part. The other part is when anything biological breaks down, it smells even worse. So my advice to you would be to empty often, daily, if possible.

    I bought one three years ago, an older model to turn into a camper.. then I realized because of my leg brace it wouldn’t work for me. I couldn’t make it work. So I got a regular vehicle traded it in. Last weekend I went out and looked at a 1989 Toyota dolphin six-cylinder RV with the right floating axle for dual tires. I was the first one that got to look at it and I knew it was going to go so I purchased it. It’s got a separate bathroom good size also. no structural damage the engine was rebuilt about 13 years ago and so was the inside redecorated. I’m cleaning up now. Going to take the toilet and Blackwater tank out for a compost toilet Going to take the refrigerator out because I don’t want propane refrigerator so it’s out going to take part of the booth out and put in a Laguna table. After I clean it, I’m going to paint it. I’m kind of excited and a little scared. my husband died and I always depended on him and I want to get out and about a little bit to start with.

      @Robertsramblings 6 місяців тому +3

      Well, thank you so much for your comments, they’re very very helpful! You know the part about blocking off the back of the van, you’re very right it would be nice to be able to have those doors open. However, in a van you just don’t have a lot of space, and so to maximize the garage area was was very important because I did want to carry all the toys, bike, kayak and beach chairs and umbrella. I found with the swiveling front seat being able to use the side door and positioning, the van with a ride orientation you still get a really nice view. Yes, there are some compromises that you have to make, unfortunately you just can’t have everything so you do the best with what you have. The floor and stairwell did work out didn’t they? Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the outcome of the van. Of course as I said, in the video, all of the colors came out of the countertop. Sometimes chance just works out well. I thought about tiles on the wall, and that still might be an option. I did decide to go with the flexseal pretty much out of convenience, knowing that I always have the option, if it doesn’t work out the way I had hoped to go with the tiles. Thanks for the suggestion and recommendation, I can refer back to that if the flex shield doesn’t work and possibly use that as an alternative. I just love these comments, there’s so much to learn, and all of the viewers have such wonderful ideals. It was good to hear from you and I appreciate your comment. That was a consideration when I built the van the size of that shower is pretty standard for both vans even though it’s a mid roof and I was concerned about that but it hasn’t been a problem at all. as far as using that space for storage, I do store the cassette toilet in there will not be used but other than that I have so much storage in the back that I don’t even fill all of that up so I have more space for storage when you’re not utilizing the space you have. I think this build is absolutely perfect for one person and would not change a single thing.😊
