Ken, I am a quilter that loves the look of applique quilting but hate to trace, cut, sew the appliques. I got my Cameo and am watching your videos to Pixscan the applique paper patterns and then have the Silhouette cut the fabric. There is a HUGE audience for this if you can show how to make it happen. You could even do a Craftsy video! Lisa Shaw shows to use Heat-n-Bond Stretch Light on UA-cam behind the fabric to make it cut applique pieces perfectly. Can you make a video on how to do that? I'd sign up for this Craftsy class in a second!
I can't begin to express how happy I am to have located your UA-cam and blog....I have learned so much and cut my frustration level down quite a bit, thanks to you. Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all you do to help the rest of us!!! Thanks!!
I have to tell you Ken, without your wonderful videos explaining the silhouette , it would have been packed up and sent back already! I was so confused on a couple of silly things, but you explained it as if you were standing here with me! Thank you, thank you, thank you! It truly is a great machine once you learn the ins and outs.
Thanks so much for this video Ken! I ordered my mat a couple of days ago and now I can't wait to try it. I'm a visual learner, so your clear concise instructions were awesome!
Hi i live in the uk, i have just got my pixscan mat i would never have figured it out without your step by step videos, love the new mat and your tutorial ; )
I have been wanting to try this PixScan for a while. Thank you for the review and tutorial. This is going to make cutting small shapes from scrapbook paper so much easier when I am scrapbooking.
Ken, I loved the video! You explained everything and I can follow it with no problem. I am a newbie. I am going to buy the mat and check it out! Thank you so much and keep up the good work for us all. Good teacher. Lots of hugs!!!! THX Christa
Great tutorial! I've had my Silhouette for over a year and use it ALL the time. I usually use print and cut but I ordered some printables on Etsy and are passworded to I can't print and cut with registration marks. So I have a pix mat but have NEVER used it so this sounds AWESOME!
Awesome video on Silhouette Pixscan. I'm still waiting for delivery of my mat and this has been very helpful to know what to do when I get it. Thank you!
I've been waiting since I was really hopeful that you were going to do a video on this and I knew it would be more thorough than what anyone else is posting. Thanks for sharing this info, Ken, you're such a star!!
I have been watching a number of your reviews and use of machines that can print and cut and now this. Was not sure what machine I wanted to get. You have me on the Cameo starter pkg and Pixscsan mat. Also getting the markers to go with it while I am at it. Thanks for the time and effort you put into keeping us up to date with the newest toys. It is much appreciated. Oh and you saved me a bundle as I was planning to get a much pricier machine. Really not necessary for what I need since I found your videos. Thanks again
This is great. I got the mat and it worked a couple of times but yesterday I had a mess. I didn't calibrate my camera. I will do that tomorrow. I am glad you showed that you had to reload to get it to see the registrations marks. Good to know. I think you just saved me $400.00 Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
thxs for this video because I have had this for 4 months and didn't have time to learn what the product can do...I this is one of the reasons I purchased the cameo over the brother..also the cameo tools are so much better in quality....will try it out tonight...great video!!
I JUST got my Silhouette for Christmas so am a big-time newbie, but when I saw a couple little things on this PixScan technology I knew I had to try it. I found my mat on eBay for $10.00+free shipping-so it was a small investment for such HUGE possibilities. Then when I found you (Ken) and all your GREAT instructional videos I was SO pleased! Awesome job of making this technology less scary! I am looking forward to watching all of your Silhouette vids! Thanks for sharing your experiences, knowledge and opinions. You rock!
Thank you so much for making this video. Unfortunately it is very hard to buy this mat in The Netherlands. At the moment the store receive the mats they are already sold out. But someday I will manage to buy the mat and together with your great video I will have a lot of crafting pleasure. Greetings from The Netherlands.
I was debating about getting the Brother Cut 'n Scan but had previously ordered the Pix Scan mats. Thank you so much for the video. You just saved me $400.00. I will certainly try the Pix Scan mat today.
Excellent, thank you. The PixScan mat was released a little later than in the US and I've been busy watching all the reviews. Convinced I need one now :) Thank you for sharing :)
Hi Ken Thank you so much for your tutorials. Everything I have watch have been very helpful. I had one major frustration with the pixScan no where did it ever say make sure your silhouette on the screen was on load cutting mat! I had the worst problem with this very slight oversight. I know I should have checked it but ya well didn't think about it and my registration always failed because of it. Now I may be the only one out there that had a complete stupid moment but just in case to all that can't get the registration to complete try this very simple common sense fix. I hope this helps someone. Paula
I am new to Silhouette Portrait, and just learning. This video is great, but I am having one problem, probably not for anyone but me! I use the eraser or other tools, and then after using the tool, how do you get rid of it? It just sticks around, I have clicked again, double click, or all sorts of clicks, cannot remove it! Thanks
I think I did everything you did, I have the cameo 4, I upgraded from the one, but I can’t get the registration marks to work. I will say, it’s easy to import the stamped images and then do a trace and cut on blank paper and then stamp the cut out image, but I hope someday to be able to figure out the registration process just so I can say I did it. 😊. Even though this is an old video, it’s the most helpful I’ve seen for this process, thank you!
thank you for your amazing videos, this is helping a lot since I only need one cutter and you saved me a lot of money and trouble testing all this machines. This PixScan is nice but I don't like the fact it doesn't cut right on the edge and I don't feel the camera capture is accurate enough for my project. Brother's Scanncut looks better for me.
Ken you are so much help, thank you, My ? is I'm new to all of this and very confused on what to get. I will mostly be using this for Vinyl print to Glass, fabric or t-shirts. Don't do scrap book at all . What do u suggested? Please help overwhelmed crafter. : )
Great video on the PixScan! I have had my Silhouette Cameo for a little over a year and a half and I'm sorry to say I don't use it as much as I would like so I play catch up to learn all the cool things it can do! I'm really liking this new option and I have a lot of stamps that I'd like to import and cut. One question though. Is there a way to cut out the areas that you don't need?? I mean like the centers of letters like the center of the P's and the "a" and he "e" etc??? Keep up the great work!
Thanks for doing this! Wasn't sure about spending the cash on the Brother machine or whether the pix scan would work with my Cameo (or if it only worked on the new Cameo). The video was great! Exactly what I was looking for & getting the mat is now a no brainier. One note: can't recall where I saw it but it said certain phones (including the iPhone 5s) didn't need to be calibrated... Have you heard that? Thanks again & loving your videos!
Another great video, I watched it over an over and followed step by step on my computer while watching on my iPad. Everything seemed to go smoothly, made my first cut which was just a tad bit off (is that normal to not be exact?), and then the second time it was totally off, about 1/4" down, although it did cut the shape. I didn't do anything different the second time, and the cut looked fine on screen. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for your detailed videos!
Pastrychef5122 Also, I was test cutting on copy paper with a simple coloring page my grandkids did and it was cutting into the mat. (I used Sil's copy paper cut settings). How would you adjust? Blade? thickness? or both ? Blade was at 2. / 10. /15
Pastrychef5122 Apparently I should have read UNDER your video before attempting using Picscan. I just saw my phone on the list and that I didn't have to calibrate? LOL! AHH! Would the fact that I went through all the steps have messed something up? I have an iPhone 4s
Hi Ken...Love your tutorials but I have a question a little off the beat and path....what program are you using to get the icons on your desk top to show up 3d like that...It looks awesome...
Hey Ken now all you have to do is convince Silhouette to make a heavy duty blade and folks that have bought recently their cameo's will have another option to use. Good video and what will they come up with next. when are you doing the second part of the Scan and Cut... pat
Hi Ken , i recently bought a cameo and i want to learn how to make stencils. Would you please show how to make stencil with something like dog's head ,also show the stencil with the negative and the positive please. another thing i like to know is show the functions of icons on top and the bottom ,please Thank you so much
Love the video, I have an iPhone 4s and the Cameo recognized my upload. didn't cut exact (but neither does my print and cut, but my question is on taking the picture. I have the picture on my phone and usually I email it to myself, then with my email program, save it where I want it, but it always asked how big a file I want to send. For normal pictures I do the smallest file, this time I did the actual size, but was wondering if that was the right way to do it.
Hi... I am so excited with this pixscan feature of the Silhouette. I am currently waiting for my mat to arrive. SO while waiting, I have updated my software. The latest now is the V3.33.277. I am encountering problems in opening the updated on. I mean "initialising" took so long. There is also an error message prompting all the time. Do you encounter this error also? I need help... I am not so good at this... =(
Great vids! Is it possible for a Cameo to cut in such a way that all the pieces are still on the cardstock and that you could mail someone the whole sheet and they could pop them out themselves? Perhaps there is a way to leave tiny tabs connecting cut out pieces to the rest of the sheet? I'm thinking cardstock as the material.
Hi Ken! Thanks for this great video. The first time I did the entire process and had great results. Now, a few weeks later, I attempted to do it again and my previous 'calibration' list is gone. Do I have to do the calibration sheet every time? Thank you!
Your videos are wonderful. Question... the reason I would be getting the Cameo is to cut out my own designs. Do you have any advice? I'm thinking that if it has a hard time recognizing stamps... would that be even harder for free-hand sketches? Have you tried? I'd love to know your thoughts on this before I go and spend a boatload of money. :)
I got my ipad calibrated, however I have not been able to take a photo the Silhouette will accept due to aspect ratio not being the same. I have not done anything different while taking the pictures. Any suggestions?
It's your icon's at the bottom of your computer screen....they sit on a silver tray and look 3D...and by the way I'm waiting on the arrival of my silhouette cameo with pixscan
You made it look so easy to calibrate, and I did exactly what you did I thought, but when I take a picture of what I want cut out on the pixscan mat it says my calibrations don't match!?
Ken, I am not a beginner with the cameo, but I just don't understand the pix scan, can't you do the same thing with just the cameo instead of using the pix scan? Need to understand this added addition to the cameo. Thanks
+Kens Kreations what do you mean that the pixscan is only for stamps? I'm new to this and not sure I get what stamp is? Also, if i have some sample paint color cards would I be able to use the Cameo itself if I want to cut the card? Or is this what the pixscan is for? Thanks!
hello, I have a question for you? How clear are the picture that you are up loading and then cutting turning out? I know sometime when I do a google search not all of the pic have good resolution and they print out not very clear. does it depend on what pixel you have your camera set ?
P. Parks so far very clear. It all comes down to the threshold. The pix scan is not printing the image so it really does not matter image quality.....if you can get a good trace on the item that is what matters
I would like to know if we have to use our camera or cellphone? I extracted an image using Photoshop and saved one image as a JPG and another image as JPG. I am unable to successfully trace the image. I have tried the low pass and high pass and had them both on. Would the Pixscan mat help me in this situation? Please let me know thank you.
I got all my calibration done successfully. But I am have a few issues. All my cuts are off. And now my regular print and cut is off as well. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you for your quick reply. I'm also having trouble with tracing an image with double lines. When I trace an image, sometimes i end up with double lines then I'm not sure what to do or how to fix. Do you have a video that helps with that?
Ken, does it take over 3 hours to import the calibration dot thing. Because my program has been loading for more than 3 hrs and still is not done. I could have hand cut 100 of stamped images by now. Hate this thing.
Kens Kreations OK, well maybe it's because when I updated my software it installed one that is even later then the one you reference in the video. Could that be the problem? As you can tell I'm a tech dinosaur.
Once you've done a Pixscan cut on something like the stamped Santa image, can you save that cut file and bring it back onto your regular mat and replicate it to fill the page and cut several and then stamp them afterwards? Does that make sense?
I know this has nothing to do with your video, but I also know that you get the best out of your machine(s) and since you mentioned calibration you refreshed my memory. With that said, I have a question. Prior to silhouette upgrading their software, we were able to click on file and they had the calibrate option; that is no longer available. The reason I bring this up is because my silhouette is not cutting correctly when using the print and cut. Do you think you can help me with this. Thanks and I love your videos. Keep'em coming!
Hello. I've looked everywhere for an answer and can't find one. My cameo (when using the Pixscan mat) cuts everything off to the side of the intended cut line by as much as an 8th of an inch. It's frustrating because it's not consistent. If it were I could shift my cut lines over in the software and fix it that way. Calibration photo was accepted and everything works as advertised except for the cut locations. Any idea where to go for an answer? Thank you.
+Kens Kreations yes I've followed your instructions and everything is accepted by the cameo. The cuts are still off and it's frustrating because I'm trying to do detailed layer work with vinyl (for pendants, covering the vinyl with resin) and it's not working out. For example I have a cut and shaped piece of vinyl layered onto another piece vinyl. I want to cut a circle around the original piece but the circle comes out offset to the side. Love it for non precision work but I can't duplicate the accuracy I've seen online.
Ken, I am a quilter that loves the look of applique quilting but hate to trace, cut, sew the appliques. I got my Cameo and am watching your videos to Pixscan the applique paper patterns and then have the Silhouette cut the fabric. There is a HUGE audience for this if you can show how to make it happen. dublintoo yes....Just think of anything you can normally do with the trace feature you can do with the picscan.

Hi Ken! Great video, thank you for posting! I was wondering, what tools you were using to lift the cuts off the mat?
+Sahar Harb just a cricut spatula.
Another great video, I watched it over an over and followed step by step on my computer while watching on my iPad. Perhaps there is a way to leave tiny tabs connecting cut out pieces to the rest of the sheet? I'm thinking cardstock as the material.
+Ducati NYC Vlog you could you would have to cut little tabs into them but yet
+Kens Kreations My cameo arrives tmrw. I can't wait :)
So, how do I get the picture from my Galaxy 6 onto my computer?
Thanks for all your help...it's wonderful.
Hi Ken! Thanks for this great video. The first time I did the entire process and had great results. Now, a few weeks later, I attempted to do it again and my previous 'calibration' list is gone. Do I have to do the calibration sheet every time? Thank you!
Brenda Beaber Not that I am aware of.
The pics can allows anything that you can take a photo of
I got my ipad calibrated, however I have not been able to take a photo the Silhouette will accept due to aspect ratio not being the same.
Becky E what are you using for your phone?
Motorola. Droid turbo. I finally got it to cut. Not as accurate as yours, but I'll try on other things to cut.
Did you take your photo with the orig iPhone camera?
Thanks!!! It would be very much appreciated!
can I use screen shots as images for the pixscan?
What kind of paper should I use in order to make it heat transferable ?
Heat Transfer Material
Ken, I am not a beginner with the cameo, but I just don't understand the pix scan, can't you do the same thing with just the cameo instead of using the pix scan? Need to understand this added addition to the cameo. Thanks
+Vicki Branham the pix scan is really only for stamps
Great thank you very much
Brilliant. Thank you very much (all the videos made me not return the product).
***** that makes me so happy
I would like to know if we have to use our camera or cellphone? I extracted an image using Photoshop and saved one image as a JPG and another image as JPG. I am unable to successfully trace the image. I have tried the low pass and high pass and had them both on. Would the Pixscan mat help me in this situation? Please let me know thank you.
wonder if cricut will come up with this I have explore then I wouldn't have to buy another machine
+Ann Weedman I am not sure. Only time will tell!
Thank you
Mzjezzb Thanks for watching!
I got all my calibration done successfully. But I am have a few issues. All my cuts are off. And now my regular print and cut is off as well. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
lisa hartnett you need to do both calibrations
i keep getting an error saying the photo i imported doesn't contain EXIF DATA.. What do i need to do to fix this?
Thank you for your quick reply. I'm also having trouble with tracing an image with double lines. When I trace an image, sometimes i end up with double lines then I'm not sure what to do or how to fix. Do you have a video that helps with that?
dublintoo I am going to do a video on this as it seems to be a very requested problem. Look for that in the next few days
thanks
+Ann Weedman you bet!
how come your iPhoto opens up SOOO quickly! mine used to but it takes a while now :( and i don't have thousands and thousands of pictures in it either
itsmeamanda01 make sure that you upgrade your computer and go into disk utility to repair your disk
Can you use the ipad3 with this????
Sweetness4713 not yet but silhouette announced this is coming soon
Ken, does it take over 3 hours to import the calibration dot thing. Because my program has been loading for more than 3 hrs and still is not done. I could have hand cut 100 of stamped images by now. Hate this thing.
Kathleen Adams no should not take that long
Kens Kreations OK, well maybe it's because when I updated my software it installed one that is even later then the one you reference in the video. Could that be the problem? As you can tell I'm a tech dinosaur.
Once you've done a Pixscan cut on something like the stamped Santa image, can you save that cut file and bring it back onto your regular mat and replicate it to fill the page and cut several
and then stamp them afterwards? Does that make sense?
Billie Parrott you could but youw ould have to make sure the next time the stamp is in the same exact spot so i do not recomend this.
Can you do an offset on the image?
yes
Hi, thanks for the video demonstration. However, you have a crutch phrase; "I'm going to go ahead" and I found it a little grating.
Thanks for the feedback! I have been working on this and have made vast improvements in recent videos
+Kens Kreations Thank you for the reply and that is good to hear. Good luck with your videos!
Keep'em coming!
dianaluvgod I am actually going to do a calibration video! Stay tuned!
that would be awesome! thank you.
Thank you.
+Chris R have you calibrated your machine?
+Kens Kreations yes I've followed your instructions and everything is accepted by the cameo. The cuts are still off and it's frustrating because I'm trying to do detailed layer work with vinyl (for pendants, covering the vinyl with resin) and it's not working out. For example I have a cut and shaped piece of vinyl layered onto another piece vinyl. I want to cut a circle around the original piece but the circle comes out offset to the side. Love it for non precision work but I can't duplicate the accuracy I've seen online.
+Chris R I'm going to try my scanner.
The scanner works great
