  • Hi Gearfacts friends, I know you saw this video just a few weeks ago but this is a new version just with some edits for copyright reasons. The VE-5 is a great effects unit with glorious reverbs and delays as well as more extreme modulations and a pretty capable vocoder. It's basically a hand-operated VE-20.

    Hello, thanks for such a great video. I really want this, but I wonder how well the pitch correction does when set to a specific key and at different levels. It would be awesome if you could do a video just on the pitch correction alone.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  6 років тому +2

      Hi Sam, and thanks for watching Gearfacts :) The pitch correction is pretty good but it's not 'hard' like electronically-perfect type 'hard'. The edges of each note are slightly rounded off. This may of course be exactly what you want. It's certainly something that I NEED. Sadly this unit has left the studio now but if another one comes through I'll remember your request and upload something - it's a good idea for a video.

    Thank you so much for this review of the VE-5 Vocal Performer. I recently bought in error an adapter and it showed polarity “- c +” when it should be polarity “+ c -“ and can’t seem to find a PSA 9V DC adapter that’s compatible … I think it runs on 120 amps? Can you suggest what PSA adapter (9V DC) is needed to plug into the “CD IN” on the VE-5 … I think it should run on 120 amps?
    I appreciate your time and hope you can help me. Thank you very much.

      Hi there, when people need a new adapter for their device. I always suggest going to an electronics store and getting a generic 3 to 12 V adapter. It’s not a bad idea to take the device in with you to show the staff there. These multi adapters are great and they work with just about everything. Highly recommended. I made a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/31zCN5pu56k/v-deo.htmlsi=p71Ct48iyFKTWgBK

    In the menu / effect harmony i cant find any option for REAL harmony effect... Thnx for help!

    The your voice to “female singer with pitch correction and harmony” at ca 2:56 - what preset was that? I have had a VE-5 since many years but that preset i am not familiar with. Now I got to try!

    I've talked with a few people who own this VE-5, as do I - and we cannot get them to operate on ANY 9 VDC power supply. Anyone else have this problem?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  5 років тому

      That is indeed strange for several people to all have the same technical issue. I thought it was just a regular 9v DC power supply as with most Boss devices. Is the polarity correct? I might be a good idea to Google "Boss VE-5 PDF" so the manual appears. At the back, in the appendix there should be exact specs for the power supply. Let me know how it goes :) Gearfacts

    • @SurferJoe46
      @SurferJoe46 5 років тому +1

      @@gearfacts I have to original printed manual that came with the VE-5, and have even looked at the PDFs too. They all concur that the voltage is correct as is the polarity. I checked! I SERIOUSLY checked when I found it would NOT run on an outside PS either with Boss's own preferred PS neither/nor a 1-Spot.
      As of this time, I have never been able to get my VE-5 to run on a wall wart.
      At this point, I'd like to get an informal poll started about this if it's a problem for anyone else. Any takers?

    • @devadharma777
      @devadharma777 3 роки тому +1

      @@SurferJoe46 Hi, if someone happens to use the wrong voltage, such as 12 volt DC (some power supplies say 9v but actually give out 10v, or 11v or 12v ), and if that was the case it blows something inside the power switch. Same thing happens if someone uses an external battery supply which may actually be around 11v . That happened to me on the VE-20. I opened it up and bypassed the input switch so now it runs fine with either a proper 9v adapter or an external battery up to 10.5v DC. Cheers

    Thanks for this. I'm considering buying this unit for non-musical purposes. I want to use it on the phone. my voice is kind of squeaky on the phone. I see it has its own mice, so an external one is not needed. what about output. I imagine if I dont have a separate external speak one would hear both my regular voice and the modulated one at the same time

    • @gearfacts

    not sure if you will see this as this video is years old BUT just in case-
    I'm trying to build my own pedal board for live usage (gig settings) and have found a bunch of TC pedals to chain though was hoping this might be a cheaper alternative.
    So far I only have a Mic Mechanic II and do not like the chromatic pitch correction it has. Does the key selection and correction work well on this device? I'm not going for hard tune vocals, in-fact the opposite. Something subtle that'll keep me from hitting some bad notes towards the end of a set haha
    The only other key features I need are distortion/saturation, a simpler looper and some EQ and Compression control.
    Any thoughts or information on the topic is greatly appreciated.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  3 роки тому

      Hey Corzzy. Yeah I need subtle pitch correction too. This board does it fairly well but I’ve never seen anything that does it *really* well, sadly. I do like the TC pedals for voice. Haven’t tried them all but they ooze quality and I think a collection of them would outperform one comprehensive Boss vocal pedal. Just guesswork really though - I’ve used quite a few but there’s still a lot more out there! Hope that helps on some small way :) Glynn from Gearfacts
