Nice although sorry to hear frame is cracked. Just bought a USED 2754GLS. I don’t know if it’s better or worse than your model. Seems tough and guy had it garage kept with newer triple bagger and 300 hours on it. $750 bucks. Hope it’s tougher than yours.
$500 was still a good price, just for parts… too bad it was a “Lowe’s Special” with the K 46 tuff torq transaxle…there is an outfit that makes a K 66 replacement kit, but it’s over $2000 bucks for the trans and mount parts, so….. there’s that…
People who pay 2k either have money to burn or need a kit because they can't figure out how to do the swap without a kit. If your patient and keep checking you can find a k66 for not much money I found one on Facebook complete with hubs wheels tires everything for 240 bucks. The hardest thing is figuring out the new belt size. All in it might cost me 300 bucks after changing the transmission oil and getting a belt. I got really lucky finding that deal but there still not that hard to find.
I have that mower and the frame is paper thin. I have added more steel and weld but it is so poorly built I reweld and add more steel every other year.
Nice 👍 Make sure you keep the front spindles greased or you might find the wheels falling off! :-) (The front wheel bushings suck) that's been the big issue so far, I need to get it converted to sealed ball bearing. besides that it cuts and runs very nice so far.
Tuff Torx K46 hydro transaxles don't "blow up." They usually wear out from heavy pulling, excessive heat, and oil not being changed or leaking and getting low. These hydrostatic systems are considered non-servicable , and people usually either replace hydro, or sell/junk the mower. They can be serviced and rebuilt, but not a common thing in today's throw away society. Got a good deal on mower, enjoy.
I would check the drive belt tension and to see if the belt is stretched. If the belt and pulleys check out then unfortunately the transaxle is the next suspect and not moving usually indicates that. There is a two part detailed rebuild video on UA-cam that I watched, it's very well done. I'm expecting mine to fail eventually and wanted to be prepared, apparently Tuff Torq is easy to deal with and the drive gear, planetary gears and diff gears were less than $100, which is what wears out.
