    girl, backwards rollerskating is all about your hips and weight transfer! learning bubbles is a true milestone in a skater’s life lol try regular bubbles, get really good at it then try backwards bubbles (literally the same effort, always looking forward, chin up, use your internal wheels, bend your knees then push’em in and out, but the inverse way). this will help you to understand how your body works while you’re walking backwards on wheels and when you get really confident, you can try to alternate lifting your feet or just do bubbles with one at a time. practicing new moves after learning bubbles is definitely the easiest way to get there!!!
    I really enjoyed your video tho. you are impressively good! when I was a baby beginner I couldn’t even stand up lol you’re doing so great. hope you’re still practicing!

    try loosening your wheels and trucks, sometimes they are stiff due to factory standards. they will help you skate with a little more ease :) and check your wheels before every skate session to make sure they are good to go. Happy skating girl!

    My husband and I are both 61, yes 61. We used to skate in Austin when teenagers and were able to skate backwards, dance the whole thing. Now we are both fit and healthy and starting again. Just bought nice skates and going to Skateland tomorrow. Oh Lord I hope we got this.

    I commend you for being so enthusiastic about trying different things; but in my opinion, your safety is seriously compromised by trying to do too much too soon. Proper skating posture while moving forwards is essential to keep yourself from falling backwards. Which is the number one thing you don’t want to happen. Like others have commented on here, please wear a helmet and everything else you can put on to protect yourself from injury. Start out with the basics and stick to those until you’ve got the basics down to muscle memory to a point when you don’t even have to consciously think about things like standing with your knees over your toes, or having your shoulders squared, or your head level. Where you look is the direction your body will want to take you. So if you’re looking down, your body will want to take you down. Although learning to do all of the things that you’ve tried in this video is exciting and challenging, it’s better to take things slow. When it comes to learning new skills, slower is faster. I hope this post finds you safe and free of injury. I’m sure that the skating community wants you to succeed. But they also want you to be injury free. With that said, I applaud your efforts. I do believe that this is the golden age of skating. This is the best time to learn how to skate with all of the fantastic tutorials available to us on YT. Skate on, shine on, and enjoy this activity to the fullest!

      Thank you as I was just about to say the same thing, where is the helmet? Head injuries can be an end all. I cringe when I see new skaters with no head gear.

    • @bensk8in467
      @bensk8in467 11 місяців тому +2

      If someone is starting out I can never not recommend gear. The more the better because it can be the difference between getting right back up or going home bummed and being afraid to skate again. I would really recommend some wrist/palm protection because catching one self with a hand is a typical reflex. Also some padded bike shorts with hip and tailbone protection are really nice too. Both inexpensive and well worth it. It’s all a good idea until you at least get better at falling. I still always wear at least palm protection gloves.

    So lucky to have that big patch to skate at your house! When your skating backwards, you can look over your shoulder to see where you're going, you can even point the hand of the shoulder you're looking over in the direction you want to go and use the other hand out front as counter balance, this should help go backwards 😊💚 the only other thing I notice is that you skate very upright, just get that booty lower and you'll keep your balance better xxxxx

    All the advice for a beginner roller-skater is frivolous. Everyone learns at their own pace and develops those skills over time.Trying to apply something your brain has just listened to or seen is impossible' yet over time and practice becomes the norm. ie, What I'm trying this week will make much more sense next week once my brain has processed it........

    Roller skating is fun and it’s good for you. I try to go almost every day for at least a bit in the summer. I probably put in close to 100 miles most weeks these days. I primarily will rhythm skate with music on but would eventually like to try park someday because I used to hit the parks on my bike. 9:17 that’s the music right there you want imo if you are wanting to rhythm skate. I’ve been to JB skate sessions in Chicago and that’s what’s up. They’re so fun. If you can find some JB skaters to follow they will show you some great moves. Have fun and keep skating 👍.

    There’s different types of roller blades for different things. Aggressive skates are for tricks and stunts like grinding rails and stuff, freestyle are for slalom skating which utilizes more precise movements. These would be some I’d recommend if you want to do dancing as sometimes slalom skating looks like it could be incorporated as dance. Then there are urban skates for cruising through the city or parks, street hockey skates for precise movement and aren’t meant for distance skating unlike slalom skates, and speed skates for getting the most speed possible. With speed skates they tend to have a shorter frame with 3 wheels from what I’ve seen, not as much ankle support if they have any at all, and are meant for racing. Personally I plan to own one of each skate type and some frames for different things. I especially want skates for off-road so I can cruise through trails.

    Nice journey, but what could have improved it, would have been to have the correct position at the beginning, you are to straight on your roller skate, you should always have your knees bended. This is why we train kids at beginning by putting their hand on their knees so that they have always the torso toward the front, and the knees bended. Nice job anyway, next step is cross over, then backward, then cross over backward ;) Enjoy your freedom when skating ...

      Never get a size too big for your skates- if you havent already, they can really screw with technique and balance! Its quite dangerous having your feet wiggle around in a shoe on wheels(ik from experience! I would have to double my socks sometimes as a kid at the rinks)
      Get your perfect size- if theyre tight when you get them, but not uncomfortably so, thats fine! Skates need to be broken in! Theyre super rigid for a reason ☺️. I hope this helps!
