This is a useful teardown and I was able to apply what I learned here to a Switar 10mm 1.6 with a stuck focus (the only difference being that loosening the three set screws was all that was needed, no removal of any retaining ring necessary). Thanks for posting!
Thank you for the video. It’s very informative. I have a similar lens. It’s Kern Paillard Yvar 36mm f2.8. I’m trying to disassemble the front glass element but it seems impossible. Do you have any experience with that model? There is a front metal retaining ring and no screws on it. It cannot be removed. 🙂
Hello Kenneth useful video as usual And for a the name Paillard the pronunciation is : Pie, Hard without the D at the end French/Swiss name are sometimes difficult 😄
Thank you for this and all your wonderful repair videos (especially the cine lenses)! Have you ever worked on any 60s era Taylor-Hobson (Cooke) Kinetals? These were made in Arriflex Standard mount and popular with Arri 16s cameras. I have a f/1.8 25mm and f/1.8 50mm with internal fungus that needs cleaning and quoted service prices around me outweigh the cost of the lenses. Cheers, Nick
Dear Sir, greetings and respect, I congratulate you for your excellent video. I have a som berthiot 75 2.5 lens that when moving the focusing disc and opening it is very difficult due to the lack of lubrication I have tried to disarm it and it terrifies me that afterwards I can not assemble it in its original state. I would appreciate the help you can give me. Unfortunately for our country we are short of this service. Thank you

Hi. Great video of how these lenses come apart. Could you have dissolved the coating, or was the glass actually damaged by the fungus?
The lens element's was already to damage by fungus, so there was nothing to do about it :-(

Does the fungus etch the surface of the glass?
The fungus eat's the coating not the glass
Why didn't you try to remove the fungus?
The surface of the lens element's was to damage, because I could really feel all the grooves with my fingers.
do you repair lenses?
No.
