Yes Johnny sack is the type of guy that can be your best friend or your worse nightmare. He was always my favorite character, he definitely can change at a drop of a dime.
Don’t know if you caught it but during the big fight Tony said, “Oh poor you!”. Something his mother used to always say to him and what Gloria said to Tony during their big fight.
@@ryanc9888 I'd probably rank it 2nd honestly. Can't think of many episodes of TV overall that are better than this one. What are your favourite episodes then? You will no doubt be harshly judged if you put Pine Barrens above this one lol.
You guys are one of the only channels that watches The Sopranos, that truly understands this show. Season 4 was considered slow and boring by a lot of people, but you see everything that the show has been about the whole time. Watching this season again with you all shows me how dense and complicated this season was. I forgot a lot of the things that happened this season. The most ghoulish thing that happened in this whole show was Paulie killing that elderly lady for her money just to get back on Tony’s good side. You are about the start my overall favorite season in Season 5.
Drama with Gloria, Valentina, Furio/Carmella, Ralphie, Christopher, Paulie & Johnny Sack, Johnny Sack wife joke, Tony/Carmella fight, etc. How could anyone say this season (or any Sopranos season) is slow? Crazy.
The MRI callback is from the very first episode. After Tony has his first panic attack, he thinks he may have cancer or something and Carmela tells him he is going to hell
Edie Falco won an Emmy for this episode. Love the movie system speakers on the boat thing. Remember Tony can’t just kill everyone who fks him. I was lucky enough to have been at the filming of the scene with Tony and Sveltlana on the steps of her house. A four hour take, but got to meet Gandolfini afterwards. Best celeb meet ever. I got pics but there’s no way to send on here. Great reaction! I enjoy the show, keep up the good work.
Some of tonys comebacks were valid. Carmela knew exactly who he was when she married him. She even admits it a few times throughout the show. She also knew exactly what was going on during the whole marriage. But she kept staying because he bought her nice things and she was able to live the lavish lifestyle so she has a little blame aswell.
When Tony is discussing what to do about the Carmine hit with Johnny after Carmine has agreed to a 15% cut, he repeats the same advice Carmella gave to Tony when discussing buying the beach house, "More is lost by indecistion than wrong decision."
Tony does that quite a bit throughout the show. He repeats cousin Brian's "buy land" advice to AJ for instance. But he just ended up confusing Richie when he tried to use Junior's virginia ham line.
As a lifelong Shakespeare nerd it always gives me a little thrill when the Bard's quotes pop up in movies & shows...which happens pretty often, much to my delight. And "Macbeth" is a favorite. Makes me appreciate the writers even more than I already do.🩵✨️🩵
FYI, Johnny Sack was grabbing his keys. I think he reached into his pocket then realized they were in his coat pocket. As he gets into the car you see them in his hand.
In the scene with Carmine and Tony making their deal, there's a pretty cool, subtle bit where, after Carmine suggests 20%, Tony looks at Johnny, who shifts his eyes downward. He did that to signal "go lower" to Tony, who then offered Carmine 15%.
Ever scene Johnny sack is on os a classic, he in bodies the mafia role perfectly. He a cool guy on the surface but at a moments notice he can flip into a demon. His arc is the most heartbreaking and real look into the outcome of the life.
The greatest episode in the history of television in my opinion. THE greatest acting I’ve ever seen combined with writing as deep as an ocean. They throw EVERYTHING at each other, conversations from episode 1 are brought up, Tony acts like his mother, Carmela isn’t taking any of his shit, “what about the children?” “I know, it’s horrible. God help them” Oh my fuck, this episode is everything that television is about. David Chase took his time, built his house of cards, and then sent it crashing down in the most satisfying way possible.
Tony does have a point. Don't get me wrong, he's obviously the worst offender in the marriage, but Carmela has been trying to play a weird game the entire series, wanting the benefits of being with Tony while not feeling morally complicit or receiving consequences for it. In season 2, when she asked Tony to get a vasectomy, she backtracked that decision when Tony came back from murdering the guy who shot Christopher, and while she didn't literally know what he did, she could put the pieces together. What she doesn't like is the blatant rottenness of their life spilling into plain view, which is what happened when Irina called in this episode. There's a lot of performative grief she's done over the years, which is what Tony was referring to when saying she has nothing to say other than bitch to him or the priest.
Johnny Sack is a snake, someone who played Paulie like a fool and who put a hit in motion on Carmine under the radar. That's why he can't just let Tony back off like nothing happened despite it being the smart thing to do, because it's in his nature to betray/play others. Him distrusting Tony says more about Johnny's character than Tony's.

What’s hard to understand is why did Carmela rat out Furio? She knows she just signed Furio’s death warrant. She knows what Tony HAS to do now. Put a hit out on Furio. If she loves Furio why would she do that?? I don’t think she really did. She used him for a rock to throw at Tony just to make Tony feel emotional pain. She doesn’t really value Furio’s life at all.
Where do you all think Chrissy’s status in the family will go from here? To recap, he started in the pilot as an associate (though a senior associate compared to the likes of Brendan Filone or Matt Bevilaqua), and was made in the beginning of Season 3, as a soldier in the Soprano crew (originally Tony’s father’s crew, which Paulie was promoted to captain of in the beginning of Season 2 after Tony became street boss). Then, in the beginning of Season 4, Chrissy is made acting captain of the Soprano crew due to Paulie’s arrest, much to Patsy’s chagrin, and soon after that Tony tells him that he will be his successor.
